Abstract

The study explored the relationship between work burnout (WB) dimensions (e.g. emotional exhaustion, cynicism and lack of professional accomplishment) and job performance (JP) components (e.g. task and contextual) of vocational education lecturers (VELs) in universities in Nigeria. The target population of the study were 284 VELs from public universities in Nigeria. The study employed a structured questionnaire for data collection. Pearson correlational Metrix and linear regression with a bootstrap bias-correction technique were applied for the analyses of data. The results shows that WB dimensions (e.g. emotional exhaustion, cynicism and lack of professional accomplishment) do not significantly correlate with JP components (e.g. task and contextual) of VELs. The results provided evidence concerning the relationship between WB dimensions and JP components of VELs. However, WB experienced by VELs has affected their JP. In all, caution must be exercised by university administrators in assigning job responsibilities to lecturers.

The questionnaire used is a loneliness scale which was compiled by the researcher himself with reference to Weiss (1972) theory. The approach used in this study is quantitative, and the analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results of this study showed that the level of loneliness in millennial generation was in the moderate category, the type of loneliness in the unclassified category. This study also shows that gender provide a more diverse overview of the level and type of loneliness in millennials.

Abstract

COVID-19 is an infectious disease that has spread widely and has increased throughout the world, including Indonesia. This does not only have an impact on health, the economy, transportation, but also has an impact on the world of education, including higher academic education. As a result of this condition, the government issued various policies in which students were required to take online learning to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Changes in this system can trigger the emergence of academic stress in students. Academic stress is a reaction that arises in individuals when faced with academic demands. This paper aims to conduct a literature review of studies that explain student academic stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Literature review was conducted on 7 studies with varying methods and levels of academic stress. The results of the literature review show that the academic stress experienced by students during the COVID-19 pandemic is caused by ineffectiveness during the learning process and the many demands they experience.

Abstract

Abstract This study investigated the effectiveness of Social-control technique (SCT) on reducing bullying tendencies among primary school pupils and sex difference in Edo state, Nigeria and suggested some implications for counselling. The design was the quasi-experimental research design. Three research questions and their corresponding hypotheses guided the study, while the population comprised of four thousand four hundred and sixty seven (44 67) 2020/2021Basic (5) pupils in primary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire titled “Olweus Bully/Victims Questionnaire’’ (OBVQ) and modified by the researchers. Data collected were analysed using paired t-test and Fisher Z-test and independent samples statistics. The findings of the study revealed that SCT was effective in reducing bullying tendencies among primary school pupils as determined by their pre-test and post-test mean scores. Self-control technique had significant efficacy of reducing bullying tendencies on the experimental group. Based on the findings, it was recommended that school Guidance Counsellors should make use of Self-control technique to correct pupils’ bullying behaviour.

Abstract

Mental health concerns confront the youth today, but the self and social stigma of seeking help hinder them from getting help. It is hypothesized in this study that providing mental health education among adolescents can reduce both their self and social stigma of help-seeking behavior. Eighty (80) grade 10 students participated in an intervention study where half of the participants attended a four-session, interactive mental health education. In contrast, the other half attended a similar four-session interactive activity, but topics included inner values of the self which are not related to mental health care. Participants answered two scales, the Self-Stigma of Seeking Help (SSOSH) by Vogel et al. (2006) and Social Stigma for Receiving Psychological Help (SSRPH) by Komiya et al (2000) one week before intervention and two weeks after intervention. Results showed a decrease in both self–stigma and social stigma of help-seeking behavior among those who received a mental health education intervention but not among those who received inner self values education. A significant difference between scores of the two groups in both self and social stigma was also observed. Results of this study imply the importance of incorporating mental health education in the curriculum of the youth to reduce stigma and encourage the young to seek help in times of mental health needs. Keywords:  mental health education, stigma, help-seeking behavior

Abstract

Self-compassion is important for late adolescence because it will have a positive impact, especially when experiencing a problem, but affectionate self-compassion is also influenced by adolescents' perceptions of the love given by their parents. Based on this, this study aims to determine the relationship between perceptions of parental love and self-compassion, where this study was applied to the subject of late adolescence as many as 102 people living in Yogyakarta with the age of 18-21 years. Data collection in this study used a scale, namely the Perception Scale of Parental Love and the Self-Compassion Scale, where the data analysis technique used was the Product Moment Technique correlation of Karl Pearson. When adolescents have a positive perception of their parents' affection, late adolescence will have high self-compassion. These findings indicate that there is a significant positive relationship between perceptions of parental affection and self-compassion.

Abstract

The demands and pressures experienced by a single parent both from family and work can affect the level of work satisfaction. This can lead to work family conflict that occurs because of an imbalance between the role of a worker and the role of a family member. This research aims to determine the relationship between work family conflict and work satisfaction among single parent employees in Yogyakarta. The subjects of this research are 60 single parent employees. Purposive sampling were applied in this current research as the sampling technique. This research used two scales, namely work satisfaction scale (22 items; α = 0,853) and work family conflict scale (16 items; ; α = 0,810). Based on the results of the product moment correlation analysis, it was found that there was a significant relationship between work family conflict and work satisfaction (rxy) = -0.788 and p = 0.000. The higher the work family conflict, the lower the work satisfaction and conversely. The lower the work family conflict, the higher the work satisfaction among single parent employees. The value of the coefficient of determination (R2)  is 0.621 which indicates that the work family conflict variable provides an effective contribution of 62.1% to work satisfaction and the rest is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Carrying out duties as a nurse for patients with mental illness causes work stress that could affect caring abilities. Good-quality caring is very necessary to support patients’ recovery. The phenomenon of nurses with low-quality caring can be caused by a lack of ability to regulate emotions. The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of REF-BY training to improve caring by controlling work stress and neuroticism personality variables. The method used in this study is an experiment employing a one group pretest-posttest design and the Mann Whitney U test as data analysis technique. This study involved 6 nurses working in one psychiatric  rehabilitation center. The results of the data analysis showed that based on the pretest and posttest and follow-up scores, REF-BY training could help improve caring skills significantly.
