Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the importance of carrying out music education by the church. This study explains the importance of art education for humans, the life of art in church and the process of art education that has been occurred in church. In particular, this study reminds us that church should not ignore music education in the church in an effort to maintain the church traditions.

Abstract

Exotic scale (exotic or foreign scales) is a scale that is not covered by Western musical traditions that is outside the major and minor systems. The number of notes in an exotic scale can be less than one octave (for example pentatonic scale) or can be more (for example octatonic scale). Exotic scales are also used to refer to certain cultural scales, for example the Persian or Hungarian scales, or certain composer finding scales, for example whole tone scales, or scales borrowed from types of capital music, such as jazz or world music . This is because these types of music do not heed the tuning system, melodic forms and aesthetic principles of Western tradition. The exotic scales basically existed long before the birth of major and minor systems. For the composer of the twentieth century the sound of this unique exotic scale became the main attraction after more than three hundred years lost by the dominance of the major-minor (1600-1900). In fact, there is now a tendency for exotic scales to be used by musicians to show the composer's identity.

Abstract

Bundengan is a musical instrument that is transformed from kowangan or tudhung. Kowangan is a kind of head covering made from bamboo slats, clumpring, and palm fibers that are used by duck herders to protect them from rain and sunlight. Bundengan is used as a dance accompaniment as in Lengger and Soreng. The purpose of this study is to analyze the form of performance and function of bundengan art. This study uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques interviews, observation, and study documents. Data validity techniques are based on credibility criteria, using data triangulation, while data analysis techniques are through data collection, presentation, reduction, and verification. This research approach uses an interdisciplinary qualitative approach, with intraesthetic studies on music forms and extraesthetics on music functions. The results of this study indicate that the form of the bundengan imitates the sound of gamelan (bendhe, kempul, gong, and kendang) applied to the pattern of the game to accompany the Lengger Topeng dance. While the function of bundengan music is as a dance accompaniment, emotional expression, aesthetic appreciation, entertainment, communication, related to social norms, cultural continuity, and community integration.

Abstract

The present phenomenon has clearly brought a change and the influence of the development of traditional music in Palembang society, if this is not carefully addressed, it will experience a shift, alienation and even lose its supporters. The rejung pesirah music group is one of the music groups that still maintains traditional arts in the people of Palembang. This study examines how the adaptation strategy of the rejung pesirah music group in dealing with changes and developments in Palembang society. For this reason, the approach used is cultural anthropology with qualitative case study research methods in Palembang. Data collection is done through observation, interviews and document studies that use triangulation techniques as the validation of the data, while for data analysis through content analysis and interactive models. The results showed that the adaptation strategy undertaken by the rejung pesirah music group was an act and creative ability and had a positive mindset, understanding in responding to changes and needs as an impulse to develop in the face of environmental change and development through learning processes and cultural modification, which resulted a creativity that is the creation of songs, musical arrangements, and musical instruments in the rejung pesirah music group.

Abstract

The entry of various new cultures in the modern era led to the depletion of love for traditional cultures that were considered ancient. The purpose of this paper is to overcome the problems of society in the modern era which began to leave traditional values. The modern era which is marked by industrialization also fills the form of education. A form of education that prioritizes technical-practical abilities so as to sacrifice ethical-humanistic values. This form of education results in the reduction of human values. An education is needed that can foster students' awareness to love, respect, and appreciate existing cultural heritage so that it is not lost because it has been eroded by modernization. Arts education with conservatism ideology is the answer to that problem. In practice, art learning is carried out in appreciation and artistic creations on traditional values, which aim to preserve and preserve existing culture, so that the culture remains intact even in the midst of the swift currents of modernization.

Abstract

The function of kulintang music for the Komering tribe is as a supporting means to carry out the entire process of customary marriage of the Komering tribe. One of the marriage process in it there is a procession using milur dance accompanied by kulintang music. The concept of mat is a distinctive character as well as a guideline in the kulintang music game, so the writer is interested in studying the concept of mat in the komering kulintang music, especially in accompanying the milur dance. This study also analyzes the shape and structure of the kulintang music mat concept in the stages of the Komering marriage, especially in accompanying the milur dance. The analysis includes musical elements contained in the form and structure of the musical presentation such as phrases, figures and motifs. This study uses qualitative methods and data collection is done by observation, interviews, study of written data and documents. The results of this study conclude that the concept of mat in kulintang music to accompany the milur dance is a guideline for coordinating musical games so that each player can play his musical instruments correctly and appropriately. Whereas the form of kulintang music in accompanying the milur dance always begins with the concept of mat in each of its performances.
