Al Munir Journal of Islamic Communication and Broadcasting is open access and peer review of journals published by the Communication and Islamic Broadcasting Study Program of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences, Imam Bonjol Padang State Islamic University (UIN). This journal covers actual issues in Islamic communication studies, including the development of contemporary da'wah by utilizing media, Islamic information systems, rhetoric, literature, and government policies regarding broadcasting and information regulation. The purpose of this journal is to promote sharing of knowledge and understanding of communication issues. Then receive contributions from experts, researchers, practitioners and policy makers throughout the world. This journal is published periodically twice a year, precisely in January - June and July - December.

Abstract

Social media is one container that is effective in disseminating information. In accordance with the results of research conducted in the Regional Secretariat of Pangandaran Regency that social media is used as a means of communication, discussion and collaboration. Whatsapp groups are created with the aim of sharing information and good discussions with public relations throughout Indonesia, journalists or village heads in the Pangandaran Regency area. Instagram is used to share information about activities carried out in the Pangandaran district secretariat in the community. Youtube is used to disseminate information in audiovisual form. Finally, Facebook is used to explain pictures or videos more fully and specifically. Each social media has advantages and disadvantages, so social media managers who are capable of information technology capabilities are needed.

Abstract

The contents of the Qur'an are loaded with social and cultural settings in the implementation of da'wah. This article explains the existence of the Qur'an loaded with social and cultural settings as a guide to preaching. The purpose of this discussion is to see how the Qur'an describes the effort in da'wah in terms of socio-cultural aspects. This research is a descriptive-qualitative type library research, which describes the situation of the socio-cultural reality of the community as a setting of the Qur'an in the implementation of da'wah. Furthermore, it draws reality as a feature, situation or phenomenon in the implementation of da'wah which must be understood historically and philosophically from the culture that developed in society, then internalized with Islamic values.

Abstract

This research is about hand-kissing behavior done by santri, students at traditional Muslim school, towards their teachers in Nurul Yaqin Islamic boarding school. Nurul Yaqin's santri-style greetings have their meanings. Researchers focus on discussing the ways, meanings and meanings construction process in the hand-kissing behavior. This study aims to investigate how santri do hand-kissing in detail to their teachers, as well as examine more deeply the meaning and meaning construction process of the symbolic behavior of hand-kissing. This study uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach. The results showed that the hand-kissing was done by kissing the back of the hand, then inverted to then kiss the palm, the kiss is inhaled using the nose. The meaning of the hand-kissing is a symbol of the blessing of zahir and inner knowledge obtained from the teachers to Allah SWT. The construction process of meaning starts from the beginning of the santri entering the cottage. At that time the students had their own meaning to the behavior of the hands-kissing. After some time, the meanings are equated with the meanings given by Shaykh al-Ma'ad. This process of equating meaning is done by asking directly to Shaykh al-Ma'ad, their teachers and seniors.

Abstract

WhatsApp is an online media that is widely used by students and lecturers. WhatsApp application can provide convenience in interacting and communicating. Through this application can add more friends, making it easier for users to get to know each other and as a media to support learning activities. This research aims to determine the use of whatsapp as a medium of communication between lecturers and students in supporting learning activities. The research method used is quantitative research. The data source is 53 students from Imam Bonjol Padang. This research is a survey, through the Google form media. The results revealed that, students feel that what makes it easier to communicate and support learning activities compared to other online media was obtained by 23 people (43.40%) choosing statements often, and as many as 16 people (30.20%) stated always. It can be interpreted that most of the students (73.60%) felt that it was easier for them to communicate and support learning activities compared to other online media. Furthermore, more than 70% of students stated that the application of whatsApp had a positive impact on their learning activities and supported the improvement of their communication with lecturers. So, whatsApp is one of the media that has benefits including facilitating communication and supporting learning activities. The ease in using whatsApp makes students feel helped by this application and becomes one of the important and preferred means of communication for students

Abstract

An agency or company, requires an effort to create a harmonious relationship between an agency and its public. Public relations is a mediator who is between the leadership of an organization or institution with the public, both in an effort to foster internal and external community relations. Public relations activities to communicate the situation in the company to the public. This paper reviews the Public Relations Strategy of Al Azhar's Amil Zakat Institute (LAZ) in Improving the Image of Institutions through human relations, community relations, and media relations activities. This study uses qualitative methods with descriptive data analysis techniques with operational study methods. Data collection is obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. In theory there are three public relations strategies, namely human relations, community relations, and media relations. In writing only discussed in the first part, namely the strategy of human relations of Al Azhar’s LAZ in improving the image of the institution. Activities carried out in human relations, include two things, namely: internal activities by maintaining work relations among employees and volunteer networks, and external activities by conducting social humanitarian activities.

Abstract

This paper explains the importance of research data as a source of information in serving users in research libraries as a result of the open science movement that is spreading around the world. Researchers/scientists are no longer satisfied with the publication of their written work, but primary data produced from research activities also need to be shared through an online repository system. This is in line with the demands of users who are increasingly complex in finding sources of information. Still a small number of research libraries that serve research data make it difficult for users when looking for information on primary/research data. An aspect of the benefits of research data services for research libraries is that they can create opportunities to increase library visibility and expand the role of libraries. The competence of librarians must be prepared to support research data services, given that there is no formal education in this regard. The concept of embedded librarian is possible as a solution through training, internships, and further education related to research data management. The practice of applying the concept of embedded librarians in the context of research places librarians more than just supporting staff, but librarians are placed as partners of researchers in conducting research activities.

Abstract

Custom and Islamic law in Aceh society are two components that can not be separated. Both are likened to two sides of a coin so that in every order of life Aceh society’s life will always be based on Sharia law, including in terms of customary practices. Peutron aneuk custom is one of the customs that is still very common in Aceh, but actually this tradition has no proposition regarding the implementation of either in the Al-Qur’an or Al-Hadith. So the purpose of this study is to find out if there are any da'wah messages contained in it. This research is qualitative-descriptive with content analysis method and applied Saussure semiotic theory. The data has been collected through observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that harmonization between custom and Islam in Aceh society had developed in various aspects of human life. Although there is no detailed Islamic proporsition in peutron aneuk’s tradition, but in every procession still contains of Islamic sharia values. There are many preaching messages contained in both of the hablumminallah worship and hablumminannas.
