Abstract

This study is motivated by the problem of student’s critical thinking skill. The purpose of this study are: 1) to investigate whether students who undertake mathematics learning with Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach have higher improvement in critical thinking skill compared to those who undertake learning with conventional; 2) to investigate students’ mathematical disposition towards mathematics learning under Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach. This study used quasi-experimental methods, while the population were all students of 8th grade of SMP Negeri 2 Cimahi, Academic Year 2012/2013. The test and non-test instruments were deployed in this study. The kind of test instruments used in this research was essay based on indicator of critical thinking skill and non-test instruments were in the forms of questionnaire, observation sheet, and students’ daily jounal. The results of this study show that: 1) students who undertake mathematics learning with Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach have higher improvement in critical thinking skill compared to those who undertake mathematics learning with conventional approach; 2) students’ enhancement on mathematical disposition towards mathematics learning under Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach is relatively good.Keyword: Critical thinking skill, Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach, mathematical disposition.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in increasing the ability ofmathematical representation and the acquisition of mathematical problem solvingabilities between students who get learning with a scientific approach based oncontextual problems with students who get expository learning. This type ofresearch is quasi-experimental. The sample was 79 VII grade students who camefrom two classes in one State Junior High School in Lembang Regency. First classgets learning with a scientific approach based on contextual problems and thesecond class gets Expository learning. Both classes posttest mathematical problemsolving abilities. The results showed that (1) there was a difference in the overallacquisition of mathematical problem solving abilities between students whostudied with a scientific approach based on contextual problems and students whoreceived expository learning; (2) there are differences in the acquisition ofmathematical problem solving abilities based on students' initial mathematicalabilities (high, medium, low) (3) there is an influence of interaction between thelearning model and students' initial mathematical abilities on improving students'mathematical problem solving abilities. Abstract

The study of development was based on a dichotomy of science based on the perception of the students of science (including mathematics) and the science of religion. The purpose of this study was to develop a mathematics learning modulebased on Unity of sciences. The research subjects were students of class VII-A MTsHasyim Asy'ari Bangsri, amounting to 37 students. The results of this study are thecompilation of modules based on Unity of sciences that were developed followingthe ADDIE model which consists of 5 main stages, namely (A) analysis, (D) essay,(D) e-development, (I) implementation, and (E) evaluation. This module was testedfor validity by three mathematics education lecturers at UIN Walisongo Semarangand one MTs teacher Hasyim Asy'ari Bangsri, and obtained an average percentage of85% in the quite valid category and needed a little revision. The practicality resultsof the module are obtained from the assessment of the responses of students andteachers who get an average value of 3.3 and 3.2 of the maximum score of 4 withgood categories, so that the module is practical to use. Assessment of cognitiveaspects of students to express the effectiveness of the module, obtained from the pretest and posttest values analyzed by n-gain, and the n-gain value of 0.63 from themaximum score of 1 in the medium category. Based on the results of this research, itcan be stated that the mathematics learning module on the subject of class VII MTsbased on Unity of sciences has good quality.Keywords: modules, module development, sets, unity of sciences

Abstract

This thesis entitled an effort to improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts insolving problem solving through Polya. The purpose of this research is to know theimprovement of students' concept comprehension in solving the story problem through Polyaapproach. This research uses Classroom Action Research (PTK) which is implemented inClass VII A MTs PUI Cilimus Lesson Year 2017/2018. Adapaun source data used is theobservation of students to know the development of student activities during learning andtests to determine the improvement of students' concepts in understanding the problem. Theresulting data will be analyzed by descriptive method. The theoretical basis used is thetheory of concept comprehension, problem solving and Polya approach. Based on dataanalysis done, it can be concluded that by using Polya approach in solving problem solvingproblem there is increasing understanding of student concept. This is evident from the resultsof the test in the second cycle of 48% of the initial test is only 30% and in the final testreached 78%. While the concept of students understanding also increased by 22.5% fromcycle 1 of 75% and cycle 2 of 97.5%. Therefore, the method of Polya approach is suggestedto be used to improve the concept of students in solving the problem solving problem.Keywords: Conceptual understanding, problem solving, Polya approach

Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students 'mathematical creative thinking abilities and self-awareness by using a new mathematical learning model, the use of the Problem Based Learning model was considered suitable to improve students' mathematical creative thinking abilities and self-awareness because at the stage of solving problems students were required to issue ideas new and students are freed to find their own material resources. This research is a quasi-experimental study conducted in odd semester of 2017/2018 academic year, on July 31 - August 31, 2017 at Weru Islamic Junior High School which is located in Weru Lor Village, Weru District, Cirebon Regency, with the subject of research being VIII grade students of odd semester 2017/2018 lessons. There are two classes used in this study, namely class VIII A as an experimental class and VIII B as a control class, in practice the experimental class uses the Problem Based Learning learning model and the control class uses the conventional model. This research resulted in a difference test of N-Gain mathematical creative thinking abilities obtained sig. (2-tailed) value of less than 0.05 then H0 was rejected. So that it can be concluded that there is an increase in difference between the experimental class and the control class, from the tcount of 6.134 it can be said that the increase in mathematical creative thinking abilities that use the Problem Based Learning model is better than those using conventional learning models and the results of the test differences in the value of N-gain awareness self obtained sig. value (2-tailed) less than 0.05 then H0 is rejected. So it can be concluded that there is an increase in difference between the experimental class and the control class, from the tcount of 7.330 it can be said that the increase in self-awareness of students who use Problem Based Learning models is better than those using conventional learning models. Abstract

The research is based on the law of mathematics conceps understanding and the less of the students’s activation in learning process. The research is Quasi Experimental research. The research design is used Nonequivalent Control Group Design and sample collection technique is SamplingPurposive. The sample of the research is the 7th qraders39 student class 7th E is classes eksperimental and 39 student class 7th D is classes control. The population in the research is the students of class SMPN 2 Kapetakan Kabupaten Cirebon, academic year 2016/2017 The instrument used in the research is mathematics concept understanding skill test and student’s observation sheet. Test of the difference of the average of post-test using the test of Independent Sample T-Test equals sig (1-tailed) score 0,001< 0,05 means H0 ejjected. And then the difference of the average using of N-gain using the test of Independent Sample t-test equals sig score (1-tailed) 0,000 < 0,05 means H0 ejjected. And then the test of the difference of the average of self confident using the test of mann whitney U test sig (1-tailed) score 0,0005< 0,05 means H0 ejjected. The research result shows that: (1). The improvement of mathematics conceps understanding skill which is using realistic mathematic educationis better than the students who are learning by conventional learning process. (2). self confident in those students who are learning by mathematic realistic mathematic educationis better than the students who are learning by conventional learning process.
