Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to reveal the impact of the 6E Instructional 3D geometry model (6E I3DGM) design in improving students' 3D geometric thinking skills. The approach in this study uses a mixed approach. The reason for choosing this approach is that researchers want to get a more comprehensive understanding of this research problem. In this study, the participants involved in this study were (1) junior high school mathematics teachers; (2) grade VIII junior high school students in one of the public junior high schools in Indramayu Regency. In addition, there are three methods of collecting data in this study, namely observation, documentation, tests, which were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Qualitative data analysis using Miles and Huberman (2014) modification consists of data collection, data reduction (data reduction), data display (data display), and conclusion drawing (verification). The statistical test used in this study used an independent t-test. The results of this study conclude that the 6E I3DGM design can improve students' 3D geometric thinking skills. This is because students (1) can activate students' prior knowledge; (2) can relate previous knowledge with prior knowledge; (3) can explore 3D geometry problems; (4) can facilitate the process of constructing new concepts of 3D geometry into students' memory; (5) able to elaborate 3D geometry knowledge acquired in other contexts; (6) can evaluate the acquired knowledge in order that the 3D geometry knowledge possessed by students is stored in cognitive structures for a long period of time. Keywords: 6E instructional 3D geometry model, 3D geometry thinking skills, junior high school students. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i1.pp45-56

Abstract

Based on literature review Three categories of teachers are: good, very good, and excellent which are viewed from aspects of beliefs, attitude, depth of pedagogical and didactic aspects, and teacher reflection in the learning process has been obtained in previous studies. Various external aspects are considered to affect teacher professionalism in learning about mathematical problem solving. These aspects need to be studied to maximize the teacher professionalism. This study will examine these external aspects, ranging from teaching experience, educational background, and experience in participating in training to improve teacher competencies. This type of qualitative research with survey methods was chosen as a research method. Three teachers from three junior high schools with different clusters were selected as research subjects. Each teacher is given short questions related to this. The results obtained are the experiences of the trainings that teachers follow in increasing their competence and teacher's educational background have more significant influence on teacher professionalism compared to the experience or length of teacher teaching.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in the improvement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the classroom with investigation group learning assisted by projects and conventional learning classes. This study included quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group research design. All mathematical problem-solving abilities of class VII students in one of the junior high Schools were the population in this study. Two classes were taken as samples, namely the experimental class applying the project-assisted investigation group and the control class that applied conventional learning. The question of mathematical problem-solving ability was used as an instrument in this study. Data on mathematical problem-solving ability from pretest and posttest then determined normalized gain average between two classes and analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the improvement of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in the class applying project-assisted group learning was better than students in the class applying conventional learning, but the average increase in the two classes was in the moderate classification. So that project-assisted investigation group learning can be used as an alternative to improve the students' mathematical problem-solving skills in junior high school.
