Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the effects of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) method towards students’ speaking skill at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sa’adatuddarain 2 Tangerang Selatan. This research was conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Sa’adatuddarain 2 Tangerang Selatan from April 15th 2016-July 15th 2016.  By using purposive sampling technique, 60 out of 300 students of grade V in school year 2015-2016 were chosen. The method used was a survey with a correlational technique. The instrument included one test to analyze the data quantitatively.  Test is used to assess the students’ speaking skill.  There is a positive and significant impact of students that learning using NLP method in the ability of speaking English. Furthermore, ? = 0.05, df = 19, and t-table = 1.73, while tcount = 9, 26. Thus tcount> ttable, this means that H0is rejected and H1is accepted, As conclusion, NLP method affects positively and significantly to the students’ speaking English ability compared with conventional method. Key words: Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) method, speaking skill, English learning

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the influence of linguistic intelligence and parent’s role towards English achievement at private senior high school in Depok, West Java. The data for linguistic intelligence is taken from worksheet through test, meanwhile the data for parent’s role is taken from questionnaire. Then the data for English achievement is taken from the score of English in students’ academic record which is familiar called rapor. Based on the result of the data analysis, it is known that coefficient correlation (R) = 0,742 and determination coefficient is 55,1%. It means that there are significant and strong influence of linguistic intelligence and parent’s role towards English achievement. English is influenced by linguistic intelligence and parent’s role for 55,1%. Meanwhile, the rest 44,9% is influenced by other factors. Futhermore, the test of hypotheses through regression analysis make the result for regression equality Y = 44,93 + 1,050 X1 + 0,251 X2 . the result for regression equality significant test is got the score of Sig = 0,000 and Fobserved = 53,389 so Sig score < 0,05 And Fobserved > Ftable so Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. It means that regression coefficient is significant. The conclusion is there are strong and significant influence of linguistic intelligence and parent’s role towards English achievement at private senior high school in Depok.Keywords: Linguistic Intelligence, Parent’s Role, English Achievement.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the Islamic terms according translation theories. One of the translation theories is modifying a loan word with meaning components, i.e. form, additions, couplets, synonim, comparison, and the last is a classifier. This theory is introduced by Larson in dealing with cultural and biblical terms.This research is a library research and the source data is taken from the Noble Qur’an, English translation and commentary translated by Dr Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali dan Dr Muhammad Muhsin Khan. The research discusses some translation theories, i.e. (1) a loan with features of form, (2) a loan word with function, (3) a loan word with form and function, (4) a loan word with a comparison, (5) a loan word with a classifier, (6) a loan word with couplets, triplets, quadruplets and quintaplets, (7) a loan word with a synonim, and (8) a loan word with a a synonim plus reference, (9) a loan word with no modification.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the adjectives in headline news online; to answer questions such as: How many adjectives that can be found in headline news online? What kind of adjectives that are widely used in headline news online? The data in this study were collected from headline news online. Literature review and relevant research has been observed to obtain a description of the data, in this case headline news online. The results showed that the author of the article using different types of adjectives, the adjectives most often used is a descriptive adjective. The main reason of the research on the analysis of adjectives in headline news online is to provide information on headline news online that can be read on the internet, and provide benefits in the study of language. Key words: adjective, headline news online, reading habit

Abstract

This study aims at describing the teaching process of English in acceleration class at SMUN 3 Malang in terms of teaching materials, media, and teaching techniques. This study is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject was the English teacher in acceleration class at SMUN 3 Malang. Findings shows that the teacher used three different English books and other source material such as English newspaper, pictures, posters, and some materials from the internet as the teaching materials. The teacher used some kinds of media in his teaching, such as: audio media, visual media, and audio-visual media. He used language lab for teaching listening program. For the teaching techniques, the teacher used some kinds of teaching techniques; they are; lecturing, games, simulation, and discussion techniques. Obviously, students speak all at once trying to accomplish their task, and this causes noise that may bother other colleagues. The qualifications of English teachers in acceleration class should be different with the qualification of English teachers in regular class. They also have to conduct a better entrance selection system for acceleration class students. The criteria that must be passed are not only IQ test score, interview, and academic score, but also creativity test score. Key words: acceleration class, teaching material and media, teaching technique

Abstract

 The research aims to analyze the error in using questions word on second grade students of MTs. Hidayatussalafiyah. Question is one of important aspect that students need to master not only in writing but also speaking. There are several types of questions that students need to learn. The types of questions that discuss in this research are “Yes/No-Questions” and “Wh-Questions”. The data are collected through observation, discussion, books and also documentation. By the data, the research finds the most error the students made in each category. The research findings also prove the students need more explanation in forming questions especially in writing. Based on the result, the student faced more difficult in forming “Yes/No-Questions” than in “Wh-Questions” category. They made mistake for 298 or 65.07% in “Yes/No-Questions and 160 or 34.93% in “Wh-Questions” from the total mistakes. The most difficult question for them in “Yes/No-Questions” is to form “are you studying your grammar book?” or using “be (is/am/are) in present progressive tense”. The total number of mistakes for this questions are 26 or 8.4%. And, for the “Wh-Questions”, they made more mistake to form “what time did you eat lunch?” or using “what time” to ask about the time. Key words: error, analysis, question words

Abstract

Considering and comprehending the right way of student in learning are requirement to become an effective language teacher. Long (1991) essentially claims that the building block of learning a second language can be found in negotiation for meaning, or the interaction, reformulation, and feedback that occur when people try to communicate. This study present the findings of research carried out to collect data of learner’s emotional respond to oral corrective feedback process.In this research, the researcher uses both qualitative and quantitative approach. It is qualitatively describe the emotional respond of the students to the teacher’s Corrective Feedbacks on their performances in microteaching class at University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri by collecting the data based on planning and conducting skill of an instruction. The data base comprises questionnaire of students’ emotional respond of the feedback in the naturalistic classroom situation. The quantitatively analysis of the data showed that more than half of the corrective feedback made by the teacher is appreciated and needed by the students. However, consistency would become a crucial point for them. It is, thus, recommended that this line of enquiry be followed-up by other researcher so that teachers, teacher trainers and policy makers

Abstract

This study examines the use of deixis for personal, spatial, and temporal anchorage of political discourse. Using two thematically and contextually different speeches of obama as its database., the paper recognize how politicians can associate with and dissociate from actions taken by them or their officer at different time. I conclude by locating some of antics of political leaders to conscript their subjects into accepting their views on conversial issues or position. Key word: inclusion and exclusion, political discourse, deixis
