Abstract

This research aimed to describe and explain to what extent Reciprocal Teaching could improve the reading comprehension of semester II/E students of STMIK Riau Pekanbaru and the factors that influenced the change of their reading comprehension through Reciprocal Teaching. This research was a classroom action research, every cycle consisted of four four fundamental aspects namely, planning , action, observation, and reflection. The participants of this research were the semester II/E students majoring in Computer Science/Informatics STMIK Riau Pekanbaru totalling 35 students. The instruments of this research were a reading comprehension test, an observation sheet, field note, and interview. There were two main findings of this research: (1) Reciprocal Teaching could improve thestudents’ reading comprehension; (2) Teaching material, class acitivity, class management, and lecturer’s approach were the factors that could influence the change of students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was intended to investigate whether students who were taught by puppets had better speaking skill of transactional and interpersonal expression than those who were taught by video. This research was experimental research; nonrandomized control group prepost test design. The treatments were done in both of classes; experimental I and experimental II class. Experimental I was taught by puppets while experimental II class was taught by video. Instrument used to collect the data was speaking test. Independent t-test was chosen to analyze data. Finding showed that students who were taught by puppets had better speaking skill of transactional and interpersonal expression than those who were taught by video. Puppets enhanced students’ gain score of speaking skill.

Abstract

The use of cooperative learning in classroom activities is not a new thing. The current study investigates the strength and weaknesses of dynamic and static group formation. 33 students of English Study Program participated in the study. The study mainly focused on students’ perception regarding the group formation during classroom activities. By applying open- ended interview, students’ perception were recorded about possible benefit and disadvantages related to group formation. Overall, this study provides evidence both dynamic and static group formation can facilitate learning.

Abstract

This article reports the finding of the analysis of use of audio visual aids to enrich students’ English vocabularies mastery at grade X of state senior high school 3 of Tambusai Utara. The aspects explored in the study covered activities done by the students in the learning of English vocabularies.. The research employed the descriptive quantitative design and the instruments used in collecting the data were a set of questionnaire and tests. The data analysis covered the use of product moment. The findings showed that use audio visual aids could better give positive effect to the students’ English vocabularies mastery at grade XI of state seniorhigh school 3 of Tambusai Utara.

Abstract

This article is concerned with the analysis of the influence of giving test regularly to improve the students’ achievement in learning English at grade VIII of state junior high school 14 of Tambusai Utara. The aspects explored in the study covered activities done by the students in their learning activities. Generally, all teachers such as English can conduct the giving test regularly. The research employed the descriptive quantitative design and the instruments used in collecting the data were a set of questionnaire and tests. The data analysis covered the use of product moment. The findings showed that use of giving test regularly better improved the students’ achievement at grade VIII of state junior high school 14 of Tambusai Utara.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to know the effect of peer editing technique toward writing skill in narrative text of the first year students at University of Pasir Pengaraian Hilir. The method in this research was experimental research, pre test and post test design. The participants of the study are 41 students. The results of this research are there was significant effect in post test with using peer editing technique. (To) value was 5.679 and (Tt) value was 2.020. It showed that (To) was higher than (Tt). The research concludes that there was significant effect to the students of Xb.

Abstract

This article is concerned with the study of student teachers’ pre-teaching performance at class VI/A English department at university of Pasir Pengaraian in academic year 2014. The aspects explored in the study involved students’ activities in the learning of TEFL II course. The research employed the descriptive quantitative design. The instruments used in collecting the data were the performance test and classroom. The data analysis showed the presentation and analysis of data. The findings showed that the the student teacher’s pre-teaching performance were in the level of fair, especially on the performance of opening the lesson, comprehension of learning materials, teaching and learning activities and evaluation.
