SDGs are a global action plan agreed by world leaders, to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect the environment. The SDGs contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets so that each article must be linked to these goals and targets (as stated in the contribution statement).

Abstract

COVID-19 hits Indonesia with massive social restrictions in many aspects of life. In some Indonesian rural areas, information related to the pandemic through online platforms and social media is accessible. However, most of the information is inaccurate. Improving individual knowledge is crucial to support the government’s campaign for COVID-19 prevention. This cross-sectional, pretest-posttest study aims to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of health personnel toward COVID-19 prevention in a primary healthcare facility in a rural area of North Sumatra. All twenty-two health personnel who worked in the hospital during the study were asked to fill in a two-sectioned questionnaire. The first section contained questions related to knowledge, and the second section was related to attitude toward COVID-19. Following the educational activity, each health personnel filled in the same questionnaire again. We analyzed the data statistically using two-way ANOVA (p<0.05, 95% CI). There were increases in knowledge (p < 0.001) and attitude (p = 0.0002) of the health personnel after the educational activity. Educational activity improves health personnel’s knowledge and attitude regarding COVID-19 prevention.

Abstract

The high number of uneducated Indonesian Female Migrant Workers (FMW) in Taiwan makes migrant workers a vulnerable group to receive discriminatory treatment, to get less access to health services, and to experience sexual violence or harassment. Psychological problems and lack of family support for IMWs are exacerbated by low literacy skills. The aim of this community service training is to improve the IMWs wellbeing. The training was followed by 16 migrant workers. Prior to the training program, the pre-test result showed that the lowest score of the participants was 5 and the highest score was 14. The average score of the participants' pre-test was 9.72. After the training activities were completed, a post-test was conducted to determine if there will be any changes in knowledge. The results of the post-test indicated that the lowest score of participants is 10 and the highest 15. The average post-test score of participants was 13.27. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that there is an increase in the average test score given, with an increase of 3.55. Participants who took part in the training experienced an increase in knowledge related to the topics of the training material provided. Therefore, assessment and training related to language or communication, occupational health, psychosocial health, and job skills training are needed to be improved for the FMW.

Abstract

Soap made from waste cooking oil can be a potential product that can be developed to improve the economy and as an effort to preserve the environment by utilizing household waste. Waste cooking oil can be reprocessed into soap-based ingredients through an oil purification system so that the color is clear and does not smell rancid by using bagasse and orange peel adsorbents in the bleaching process. This service aims to train students' understanding of Mambaul Hikam Islamic boarding school about processing solid and liquid soap from waste cooking oil through the cold process method and the hot process method. The results of the service show firstly, the transfer of knowledge, skills, and affection for making liquid and solid soap using cold and hot process techniques through appropriate technology. Second, the formation of a community of students who can become facilitators in assisting the manufacture of laundry soap from used cooking oil waste. Soap production from this assistance is still an internal use of the Islamic boarding school but the students are expected to be able to increase the production of soap which can improve the economy of the santri and the Mambaul Hikam Islamic boarding school.

Abstract

The Youth Scientific Group (YSG) is an extracurricular activity that has a positive impact on students. Unfortunately, the presence of YSG in various schools, including SMAN 1 Tumpang, is still not optimal. In this high school located in Malang Regency, the YSG activities have not been carried out consistently. The scientific competence and research literacy of students at SMAN 1 Tumpang have not been fully utilized. In response to this issue, the aim of the Community Science and Technology Program (Community Service Program) is to enhance the scientific competence and literacy of students at SMAN 1 Tumpang through mentoring in the preparation of YSG. This Community Service Program consists of several stages, including observation and problem identification, preparation of YSG mentors, material presentation, training and mentoring, activity evaluation, and the preparation of scientific articles as program outputs. The average pretest score of the students' knowledge was 39.67, while the posttest score increased to 93.23. The average N-gain of their knowledge reached 0.836. Based on this N-gain value, the students' knowledge improvement is categorized as high. The paired t-test results indicate a significant difference in students' knowledge related to scientific work before (M = 39.7, SD = 20.6) and after the program (M = 93.2, SD = 7.5), t(30) = 14.6, p < .001. Therefore, the program implemented in the partner school has proven to be beneficial in enhancing students' scientific competence.

Abstract

Harapan Jaya Village, Way Ratai Subdistrict, Pesawaran Regency has very promising potential for cultivating trigona bees. Lecture and student from University of Lampung team conducted training on stingless bee cultivation in this village in 2022. At the end of 2022, several stingless bee colonies experienced deaths that were allegedly due to lack of nectar sources. This community service activity was carried out to provide understanding and training on vegetation management and adding stingless bee colonies. Activities are carried out with lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. The results of the activities that have been carried out include the addition of seven types of nectar source plants and two stingless bee colonies. In addition, the community's understanding of the maintenance of stingless bee colonies and their supporting vegetation also increased.  This is very supportive of long-term programmed in the achievement of SDGs, especially in the goals of life on land and no poverty.
