Abstract

Indonesia has founding fathers that have any brilliant ideas. At the time of drawing up the independence, they have debated each other for the sake of strong base of Indonesia. Their ideas have been embraced in conference brochure of BPUPKI. One of the figure that made especial reference in this paper is Soekarno. He have proposed Pancasila, even he embraced Pancasila in one term: “gotong-royong.” The extortion of states of philsosophy of Indonesia is the spirit of “gotong-royong.” Soekarno, in the reality, designed the “gotong-royong” as state of understanding for Indonesia. This paper has a purpose to digging the early idea of the founding of the nation., especially the Soekarno’s idea of Pancasila and “gotong-royong.” Specially, i hope, the discussion of this theme can give any contribution for Indonesian politic and social lives, of which to be felt decline in any ways progressively. Therefore, critical analysis to both of them become the especial pressure. The digging will be focused on Pancasila. Hereinafter, this paper will explain how this research can enrich multiculturalism of Indonesia. The critical contextualization for Indonesian daily live will be searched on last chapter.

Abstract

The study is a comparative study of Thomas Aquinas and Dewa Ruci on purpose of human life as comparaton between Western and Eastern philosophy. Aquinas is the representative of the Western philosophy, whereas Dewa Ruci is sort of philosophical legacy of the Est. Dealing with idea of Aquinas on purpose of human life I go to the Summa Theologica. Aquinas gives an interesting ideas worthed to explore. Dewa Ruci is that of “Serat”, a Javanese literature on the lived experience of the so-called Bima who transformed himself into Dewa Ruci after undergoing spiritual retreat. The “Serat” contains philosophical wisdom typically Javanese and “Eastern” particularly related to “divine” purpose of human life.

Abstract

St. Bonaventure was one of the great medieval theologians who constructed his theology by employing not only philosophical and biblical ideas but also aesthetics. To him, the most holy triune God is the very source of all beauty. Divine beauty gushes forth from the very center of Trinity like a river. God the Father is the source of all beauty, the Son is called “Ars Patris” who reflects the Father’s beauty and the Holy Spirit is divine Beauty that renews, recreates and replenishes humanity, church and the whole world. In another words, humanity, church as the body of Christ and the whole created realities embody and reflect God’s magnificent beauty. All sacraments, in a very special way, mediate God’s power and beauty to the whole mystical body of Christ. They are visible signs established by God to renew, beautify and save God’s children. The most holy triune God is both the Origin and the End of all beauty. God will restore, renew and beautify humanity the church, and the whole world at the end of time. Bonaventure’s aesthetic theology is relevant to our context and his unique way of doing theology inspires us in our endeavor to construct a contextual theology in Indonesia.

Abstract

The great Carmelite mystic, St.Teresa of Jesus, in her didactic and devotional poem titled Eficacia De La Paciencia or Efficacy of Patience gives this advice in the opening line “Let nothing trouble you” and concludes with this saying, “God alone suffices”. Who in this life can say this and when? What does it mean? What does it mean in practical life? What should we do? I try to answer these questions in the light of Scripture,the Book of Life.

Abstract

Artikel ini merupakan studi tentang teks klasik dari Benjamin Constant yang berjudul The Liberty of the Ancients Compared with that of the Moderns. Argumentasi dasar dari artikel ini adalah bahwa kunci untuk memahami teks ini yang merupakan pidato Constant di Athénée Royal, Paris, adalah pemahaman yang memadai akan dua bagian teks yang disusun berdasarkan kondisi historis yang berbeda. Pemahaman ini merupakan jalan masuk untuk merunut secara sistematis garis merah argumentasi yang disulam secara halus tapi dengan misi untuk menyakinkan para pendengarnya. Saya setuju dengan pendapat Stephen Holmes bahwa untuk memahami perubahan argumentasi yang diusung Constant di bagian kedua dari teks tersebut, kita harus membacanya dalam konteks kebangkitan pengaruh politik kaum Ultra-royal di masa Restorasi Bourbon. Kesalahan Holmes adalah ketika dia tidak menyadari bahwa peran dari dinamika antara partisipasi politik dan kebebasan individual telah dipersiapkan oleh Constant dalam bukunya yang ia tulis sebelum pidato tersebut. Bagian akhir dari tulisan ini, saya memberi evaluasi kritis terhadap romatisisme politis dari Constant. Abstract

Our daily life is full of news connected with terrorism in the name of religion. This is not only a disturbing thing but also put our peaceful living together on the brink. Being struck by the fact that ordinary people live peacefully in perifery of Malang, I would propose a research on how they conceive peace in lived experience. So, I go to “Pondok Pesantren of Anwarul Huda” to listen to their concerns as well as opinions and hopes on living peacefully with other people. From my perspective their ideas are indeed beautiful lesson not just narrated but also to be explored. Keywords: Damai di hati, fundamentalisme, silaturahmi, narasi, persahabatan.

Abstract

In the valley of Mount Wilis, Kediri (village of Pohsarang) there is a beautiful building Catholic church, called “Gereja Pohsarang” built in 1936. It is “unusual” church from my perspective. The church is build with specific and typical model that belongs to Javanese culture with dominant stones over its building. The article depicts my personal observation of the building and its details with theological and catechetical meaning. The builder seems to play a very complex symbolism and catecheticism. “Gereja Pohsarang” remains priceless cultural-religious treasure not just for the Catholics but also for people.

Abstract

Buku ini bertitik tolak dari pertanyaan-pertanyan fundamental yang diasalkan pada pengalaman moral manusia terkait usaha untuk hidup baik bersama dan dengan yang lain. Pertanyaan-pertanyaan fundamental itu adalah apa itu kebaikan? Mengapa kita harus hidup baik? Bagaimana kita mengupayakan hidup baik itu? Dengan siapa kita mengupayakan hidup baik? Bagaimana cita-cita hidup baik itu dihadapan paham modern tentang kehidupan yang berorientasi pada upaya pencarian akan kebaikan individualis-privatlistik dan utilitaristik? Pertanyaan-pertanyaan ini dapat kita baca dalam catatan pendahuluan bab I berjudul Introduzionemetaetica /Pengantar Metaetika.
