Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether the use of Humor Stories is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension. This pre-experimental study use 30 students’ as a sample. They are grade VIIIE of SMP N 1 Tolitoli. The procedure of this research consist of pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The researcher give pretest and posttest to know the use of Humor Stories can improve the students’ reading coprehension or not. The result of the analysis show that Humor Stories contribute greatly to the students’ comprehension. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 52.13 while in the post-test improved up to 73.03. The data of this research are analyze by SPSS Program 16.0. Moreover, the Minimum mastery Criterion of English lesson is 66 (sixty-six). Then the data of both tests are analyze by using T-test, and the result show that the T-test value 15.001 was high than T-table value 2.045. it can be inferred that Humor Stories is very effective to improve students reading comprehesion.Keywords:  Improving, reading comprehension, humor stories, narrative text.

Abstract

This research Includes an experimental research which consists of four stages; Planning, action, observation and relection. The subjects of this study are students of class VIII E SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli academic year 2016 / 2017.This research used 17 students as a sample from score this study can be seen from the average value of each value pre test and post test. Where the score pretest in this study.  The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in post test 84.88 is high than pretest 51.25. The researcher found  that  the  T-table  is  2,131  was  identified  at  15  the  significance level is 0,05 and T counted  Is 14,977, it   meant  that  the   Tcounted   was  higher   than   Ttable   and   the  hypothesis  is  accepted. The  researcher concluded that  using  picture  can increase  vocabulary  mastery  of  VIII  Grade  students  at  SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli through Picture. Based on these results, the researcher draw the conclusion that the media pictures can improve the mastery of  vocabulary in the students of class VIII E SMP  Negeri  4  Tolitoli academic year  2016 / 2017. From facts, the authors suggest English teachers to be more creative which to make students more active and enjoy in learning English. The researcher also suggest to students to emphasize themselves for more enterprising learning more actively ask questions and to seek more knowledge.     Keywords: Increasing Students Vocabulary Mastery, using Pictures.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether the application of cooperative script technique improve the students’ reading comprehension or not. It is a pre-experimental research. It conducted at first grade of SMK Negeri 1 Tolitoli that was X PK 1 in academic year 2016/2017. The writer gave a pre-test to measure the students’ previous ability in reading comprehension. Then, a post-test to find out the students’ reading comprehension after given treatment which is the application of cooperative script technique. The writer used SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data. The result of data analysis showed that cooperative script technique give a significant effect to the students in comprehending a recount text. The mean score of the post-test (82,67) was higher than the mean score of pre-test (69,87). Then, the testing hypothesis showed that the value of Tcount was greater than Ttable (13.797 > 2.054). In conclusion, the application of cooperative script technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension in recount text. Key words: Improving, Reading Comprehension, and Cooperative Script.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether word tree branch can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary.. This pre-experimental study uses 30 students as a sample. They are grade VIIf of SMP N 3 Tolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that word tree branch contribute greatly to the students’ vocabulary. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 51.47 while in the post-test improved up to 62.60. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 7.377 is high than T-table value 2.045. It can be inferred that word tree branch was very effective to increase students’ vocabulary in descriptive text.  Keywords:  Increasing, vocabulary, word tree branch

Abstract

This study is about the use of describing picture as method to develope students’ speaking skill of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tolitoli in the 2016/2017 academic year. The design of this research is pre experimental research. The sample of this research is the eleventh grade students that consist of 31 students. The data obtained from pre test and post test. In the pre test it is found that mean score of the student are 34,19 and in the post test are 69,67. Computation of the data tcount results is 19,86 which means higher than ttable is 2,042. The result indicates that there is an improvement in students’ speaking ability by using describing picture. It can be concluded that improving speaking skill by using picture is effective.Key word : Developing, Speaking Skill, Describing Picture

Abstract

This research was pre-experimental research design that aims to find out whether the use of SSS ( Start Simple Stories ) in teaching reading can motivate students reading comprehension of the Tenth Grade at Sma Negeri 1 Ogodeide. The subject of this research was the students of the Tenth Grade at Sma Negeri 1 Ogodeide 2016/2017 academic year which consists of 26 students. The researcher analized the data statically, the result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in post-test 75,65 is high than pre-test 50,3., To know the significant difference between pre-test and post-test, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0,05 level of significant for one – tailed test with 25 degree of freedom (26-1 = 25), the researcher found that the t-table 2,060, it means that the t-counted (24,395) was high than t-table (2.060) and the hypothesis of this research was accepted. The researcher concluded that applying SSS (Start Simple Stories) toward the students’ reading comprehension of the Tenth grade at SmaNegeri 1 Ogodeide was effective. .Key Word : Effectiveness, Simple Stories, Reading Comprehesion.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether word search puzzle can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary. This pre-experimental study uses 22 students as a sample. They are grade VIID of SMP N 1 Galang. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that word wall media contribute greatly to the students’ vocabulary. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 61.545 while in the post-test improved up to 75.727. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 6.172 is high than T-table value 2.831. It can be inferred that word search puzzle was very effective to increase students’ vocabulary.  Keywords:  Increasing, vocabulary, word wall media

Abstract

This research belongs to experimental design with pre-test and post-test activity. The objective of the research is to know effectifness used discovery technique to imcrease student vocabulary mastery. Sample of the research were 30 students’ of ten grade of SMA Negeri 2 Tolitoli. In doing this research, the researcher used discovey techique. The data analysis of the research was quantitative measurement to find the mean Based on the data analysis from pre-test and post-test activity. Based on the result, it was found that the use of Discovery in Teaching English is effective to increase the students’ vocabulary mastery and very beneficial for the students in order to facilitate them in Learning English. Key words: discovery, vocabulary, increasing.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the empirical evidence concerning whether SQ3R technique was effective or not to teach students reading comprehension. This study was held in March 2015 at MAN Tolitoli. This study used a quantitative method in the design of pre-experimental study.  The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The researcher took one class as the subject of this study. The sample was X IIS 3. The improvement of students’ score can be seen from the differences between pretest and posttest. The mean score of pretest was 65.88 and it improved to 81.48 in posttest. Moreover, the minimum mastery criterion of English lesson was 76 (seventy-six). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test  and the result showed that the T-test value 8.39 was greater than T-table value 2.064. according to the criteria of the test the result showed that there was a significant improvement between students’ achievement in reading comprehension by using SQ3R technique before and after pretest and posttest were conducted. It meant that SQ3R technique was effective and applicable at the first grade of MAN Tolitoli to teach students’ reading comprehension. Keywords: Improving, Reading, SQ3R technique, Comprehension.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether the use of hangman games effective in increasing  students’ . This  pre-experimental study use 22 students as a sample. They are grade VIId of SMP N 1Galang . The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 56.72 while in the post-test improved up to 90.64. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 9.681 is high than T-table value 2.080. It can be inferred that hangman   games   is very effective to improve students’   vocabulary. Keywords: increasing , vocabulary, Hangman games
