Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether word tree branch can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary.. This pre-experimental study uses 30 students as a sample. They are grade VIIf of SMP N 3 Tolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that word tree branch contribute greatly to the students’ vocabulary. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 51.47 while in the post-test improved up to 62.60. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 7.377 is high than T-table value 2.045. It can be inferred that word tree branch was very effective to increase students’ vocabulary in descriptive text.  Keywords:  Increasing, vocabulary, word tree branch

Abstract

        This research aims to solve the problems encountered by students of SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli in learning English vocabulary. Secondly to describe the procedure in teaching and learning English vocabulary by applying pictures. And thirdly, to find out the result and improvement of the students in teaching English vocabulary in applying pictures. This is pre experimental study used 19 students as a sample. They were seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli. Data were taken from pretest and posttest.The data collected show that the mean score 52.05 pretest and 81.00 in posttest. The data of this research were analyzed by SPSS program. Computation of the data T- count was 8.534 with significant level was 0,000. And to related with probality level was 0,05. As the conclusion from assumption T-count > T-table can be proved. The study indicated there is significant different affect after applying the technique to improving the student vocabulary mastery through pictures in the VIIᴮ grade of SMP Negeri4 Tolitoli.  Keywords: Increasing Students Vocabulary Mastery, Using Pictures.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify whether the use of summary technique effective to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. An experimental design was used to collect the data, while quantitative approach was used to analyze them. The study was taken by the first grade of SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli Utara. It was conducted in one class (VIII). The data were obtained through a pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was used to measure the students’ previous ability in reading comprehension, the treatments were applying materials through summary technique, and the post-test was used to find out the students’ reading ability after given treatments.The result of the analysis showed that summary technique contribute greatly to the students in reading comprehensio. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 46,38 while in the post-test improved up to 78,13. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-tes value 2,229 was greater than T-table value -14,246. It can be inferred that summary technique was very effective to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. Key words: Summary technique, teaching reading, narative text

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether the use of scanning technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. This pre-experimental study uses 30 students as a sample. They are grade VIIIG of SMP NEGERI 1 Tolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that scanning technique contributes greatly to the students’ comprehension in narrative text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 65.27 while in the post-test improved up to 79.37. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 9.795 is high than T-table value 2.045. It can be inferred that scanning technique is very effective to improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text.  Keywords: Improving, reading comprehension, narrative text, scanning technique.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify whether the use of mind mapping was effective to improve students’ skill in writing narrative text. This pre-experimental study  used 25 students as a sample. They were grade VIIIC of MTs DDI Kel.Baru. The procedure of this research consisted of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The researcher gave pretest and posttest to know the use of mind mapping technique can improve the students’ writing ability or not.  The result of the analysis showed that mind mapping technique contributed greatly to the students in writing narrative text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 48.60 while in the post-test improved up to 71.00. The data of this research were analyzed by using SPSS Program 16.0.Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both tests were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 11.362 was greater than T-table value 2.064. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the empirical evidence concerning whether story mapping  is effective or not to improve students reading comprehension. Story mapping is use to motivate students in reading because it helps them to visualize the important elements of story and make students’ thoughts to be more organized, the researcher is interested to conduct a research by applying the technique of story mapping toward students’ reading comprehension through the material. This study was held in March 2015 at SMAN 1 Ogodeide. This study used a quantitative method in the design of pre-experimental study. The sampling technique use in this study is purposive sampling. The researcher took one class as the subject of this study. The sample is XB class. The improvement of students’ score can be seen from the differences between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pretest is 34.24 and it improves to 77.52 in post. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 70 (seventy). Then the data of both test are analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 18.27 was greater than T-table value 2.064. According to the criteria of the test, the result showe that there is a significant improvement between students' achievement in reading comprehension by using story mapping before and after pre-test and post-test are conducted. It means that story mapping technique is effective and applicable at the X grade of SMAN 1 Ogodeide to teach students’ reading comprehension. Key words: Improving, reading comprehension, story mapping

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify whether the use of word game can increase students’ vocabulary. An experimental design is use to collect the data, while quantitative approach is use to analyze them. The research takes by the VIII grade of SMP Negeri3 Ogodeide. It is conduct in one class (VIIIA). The data are obtained through a pre-test and post-test. The researcher used SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data collection. The pre-test is use to measure the students’ previous in vocabulary, the treatments are applying materials through word game, and the post-test is use to find out the students’ vocabulary ability after given treatments. The results of this research show that word games can effectively increase students’ vocabulary. The improvement can be seen in the form of students’ behavior and students’ score. The students become more active in teaching and learning process. The improvement of students’ score can be seen from the differences between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pretest is 23.76 and it improves to 75.29 in post. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 70 (seventy). Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 24.51 is greater than T-table value 2.131. It can be inferred that word game is very effective to increase students’ ability in vocabulary. From the test result, it shows that there is a significant improvement of students’ vocabulary after the researcher conducts the research. It proves that teaching vocabulary through word game can increase students’ vocabulary. Key words: Increasing, vocabulary, word game.

Abstract

This pre-experimental study  using 21 students as a sample. They are grade VIIB of MTs DDI Kel.Baru. The procedure of this research consisted of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The researcher give pretest and posttest to know the use of pictures can improve the students’ writing ability or not. The result of the analyse show that using pictures contribute greatly to the students in writing descriptive text. It can be see by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 47.86 while in the post-test improved up to 80.10. The data of this research are analyse by using SPSS Program 16.0 Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75. Then the data of both tests are analyse by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 15.505 is greater than T-table value 2.086. Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether the use of STAD is effective ornot to improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. This pre – experimentalresearch use 27 students as a sample. They are Grade VIIIA of SMP NEGERI 1 Galang. Theprocedure of this research consist of pretest, treatment, and posttest. Pretest and posttest aregiven to know the use of STAD can improve students’ reading comprehension or not. The resultof the analysis data show that STAD contribute greatly to the students’ comprehension innarrative text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pretest and posttest.The mean score of pretest is 57.93 while in the posttest improved up to 80.69. the data of thisresearch are analyzed by SPSS Program 16.0. Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion ofEnglish lesson is 75. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the resultshowed that the T-test value 41.062 is high than T-table value 2.056. Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether word search puzzle can be applied to increase students’ vocabulary.. This pre-experimental study uses 33 students as a sample. They are grade VIIf of SMP N 3 Tolitoli. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result of the analysis shows that word search puzzle contribute greatly to the students’ vocabulary.. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 76.09 while in the post-test improved up to 84.61. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 11.818 is high than T-table value 2.037.
