Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria in the form of rods (bacilli) known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This disease is included as a chronic infectious disease. The causes of the increase in TB cases each year are still various. One of them is smoking behavior. A person who smokes will have twice the risk of contracting TB. This study aims to determine the relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in the work area of the Medan Sunggal Puskesmas in 2019. Methods: This study is an analytical study with a cross sectional design. The population of this study were patients with pulmonary TB in the work area of the Medan Sunggal Public Health Center in 2019. The sample size used was 104 people who had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the second study, the data collection tool was through the Puskesmas medical records. Data analysis was performed using the statistical test is chi square. Results: the result showed that there was a relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in Medan Sunggal Public Health Center with an OR (95% CI) value of 105,125 (13,280-832,161), which means that respondents who smoke will have 105,125 times the risk of suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis compared to non-smoking respondents. From the results of 95% CI, it can be seen that the lower limitand upper limit values (CI values) not include 1.00, so the results of the study are statistically significant at the value of α = 0.001. Conclusion: Smoking behavior has an insignificant relationship with the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis at Medan Sunggal Puskesmas in 2019. It is recommended that the primary care should provide support and sources of information about smoking habits, especially for patients who have been diagnosed with pulmonary TB.

Abstract

A B S T R A C TDiabetes mellitus is a condition in which blood glucose levels increase in aperson's body which can result in chronic disorder. The effect of diabetes on amale reproductive system can affect sperm quality and disrupt the spermatogenesisprocess. Moringa oleifera leaves are rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids, vitaminA, vitamin E, and vitamin C, and contain selenium which helps lower bloodssugarlevels. This study was conductedtto determine the effect of administering Moringaoleifera leaf extract on the quality andiquantity ofssperms in Wistar rats with diabetesmellitus. This research is an experimental studyiusing pre-andipost-randomized,controlled group design. This study examinediblood sugarllevels, density, motility, andiviability ofssperm cells. This experimental test was dividediinto 4groups: one as a control group andtthree groups as treatment groups inducedwith alloxan and given ethanol extract of Moringa leaves with doses of 250, 500,and,750mg/kgBB. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Moringa leavesshowedssignificant improvements in various doses (P-value ≤ 0.05).

Abstract

A B S T R A C TBackground Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men worldwide and rankssecond in the Laboratory of Anatomical Pathology, Dr. Mohammad Hoesin with thehighest incidence, especially at the age of more than 60 years. Factors that play a roleas a prognostic factor and therapy in prostate carcinoma, including VEGF. The roleof VEGF expression in prostate carcinoma as a prognostic and histopathological factorwhich is an important predictor for the progression of prostate carcinoma. This studyaims to determine the relationship between VEGF expression and Gleason score inprostate carcinoma. Method This study was a cross-sectional observational study.Thirty samples diagnosed with prostate adenocarcinoma were derived from the resultsof the tranurethral resection of the prostate (TRUP) and prostatectomy. Samples weretaken from the archives in the Anatomic Pathology section of Dr. Mohammad HoesinPalembang (period January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2013. Then the sample wasstained with VEGF antibody, identified and analyzed the VEGF relationship with theGleason.z score. Results The positivity of VEGF expression in prostateadenocarcinoma tended to be more prevalent in the Gleason score group ≥ 7 (43.3%)than in the Gleason score group <(10%). There was no significant relationship betweenVEGF expression and high Gleason score (p> 0.05). Conclusion There was nosignificant relationship between VEGF expression and Gleason score in prostateadenocarcinoma

Abstract

A B S T R A C TScurvy is a rare case found in many countries, but it is often found in refugeeareas, especially in Africa. Vitamin C deficiency varies based on season and occursmore in men with age. The purpose of this research is to avoid misdiagnosis so thatit can be a reference in the field of medicine to diagnose and provide management onscurvy. This prospective research was conducted with one sample of research.Observation had been carried out for two months, starting at one month after thepatient was suspected with the diagnosis of scurvy. Computer Tomography (CT) Scanlumbosacral to pelvic results were normal. Laboratory test of HB result was 9.5 g/dl,in which MCV was 63.2 fL, MCH was 20.3 pg, and MCHC was 32.1 g/dl. Scurvytreatment in the first visit was 3x1 tablets vitamin C, 3x5 ml ibuprofen Syr, andphysiotherapy. The results were that the patient still suffered swollen and bleedinggums, but the pain no longer existed, pale, behavioural disorders, unable to walk, and pain in both knees. After the second visit, the child got therapy of 4x50 mg vitaminC, 1x1 tablets vitamin B12, 1x150 IU vitamin E, 1x1 tablets cavit D3, andphysiotherapy. After two weeks of treatment, there were no complaints of swelling, painful or bleeding gums. The child could straighten her legs, but she was still unableto walk due to the trauma of feeling great pain while walking. Special attention isrequired to diagnose appropriately so the doctor can minimize and preventcomplications.

Abstract

Continuous heart failure can lead to complications to other systems, one of which is the hepatic system. Heart failure results in venous congestion in the portal vein so that the portal vein pressure increases, which is called portal hypertension. Portal hypertension causes fluid to pass through the walls of blood vessels and into the tissues. Management of decompensatory heart failure accompanied by comorbid disease in cardiac cirrhosis includes drugs management that does not aggravate the liver, namely angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and loop diuretic agents. Also, non-pharmacological management such as resting position and a diet sufficient in protein and low salt help improve the patient's general condition. This case report aims to present a decompensated heart failure accompanied by cardiac cirrhosis and anaemia of chronic disease in a child.
