Abstract

The verses of the Al-Quran have meanings and purposes related to the history behind the revelation of the verses. The meaning of verses can be explored by various approaches and methods of interpretation. This article examines the word qātilū in Q.S. At-Taubaḥ [9]: 29. The word often has a double meaning so it is understood incorrectly and only the external aspects are discussed. Basically the word qātilū in the Koran means "fight". But in fact the word qātilū in Q.S. At-Tubaḥ [9]: 29 is used as "legal" legitimacy to commit murder. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the meaning of the word qātilū using a descriptive analysis method. The theoretical approach used is the maʻna cum maghza theory initiated by Sahiron Syamsuddin. The process of interpretation in the maʻna cum maghza theory is carried out by: First, paying attention to the meaning of at-tarikhī or the meaning of the language intended by the author. Second, looking for significance (al-ma'na al-tarikhī) is paying attention to the historical context of the studied verse. Third, dynamic phenomenal significance (al-maghza al-mutharrik al-muʻasir). Primary source analysis was carried out by interpreting the word qātilū from various commentaries, the Koran, and supported by secondary sources in the form of relevant books, journals, and articles. The results of this research show that: First, the word qātilū means "fight" namely to the People of the Book, especially the Romans. Second, this verse refers to the permissibility of fighting when Islam is under pressure and threats such as territorial expansion by the people of the book in the Arabian peninsula, disobedience in paying jizya, torture of Muslims, etc. Third, this verse has asbabun nuzul, namely the context of the war with the Romans called Ghazwa al-ʻUra. Fourth, orders to fight are permissible when there are threats, violations of agreements, and rebellion against Islam. When these elements do not occur, fighting/killing other people is prohibited.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the concept of sustenance in the Islamic context, particularly through identifying similarities and differences in the Qur’anic interpretation of sustenance in the Surah as-Saba and al-Baqarah. The research method used is library research focusing on Hamka’s Tafsir Al-Azhar and Imam Al-Qurthubi’s exegetical work. The results of the research show that Allah SWT is the provider of sustenance who determines the amount and method of obtaining it. Even though Allah determines sustenance, humans still need to try to get it. In addition, Islam teaches the importance of sharing sustenance with others and helping people in need. This study also emphasizes that Islam is not only related to material aspects, but also includes various other aspects of life. In creative synthesis, this study presents the results of the analysis of the two elaborational interpretation as a more comprehensive understanding of sustenance in the Islamic context. The results of this study can also provide deeper insight into how Muslims can be grateful, work hard, share, and support good deeds and obedience to Allah SWT in seeking blessed sustenance.

They usually buy an item spontaneously without planning so that it tends to give birth to a consumptive attitude. They will do all kinds of things to get the items they want. In addition, following fast fashion trends also has a negative impact on the environment. This article is literature research, using Ibn 'Āshūr's maqāṣid al-Qur'ān approach. It will elaborate on the interpretation of surah al-Anbiyā' (21) verse 37, al-Nahl (16) verse 78 and al-Hadīd (57) verses 20-21 and how to address the fast fashion trend from the Qur'anic perspective with Ibn 'Āshūr's maqāṣid al-Qur'ān analysis. The Qur'an provides a solution as one of the attitudes that can be done in dealing with the fast fashion trend that is rampant, namely: First, not being hasty (QS. al-Anbiyā' (21): 37). Second, examining on how much benefit will be obtained and how much harm will be caused (QS. al-Nahl (16): 78) in following the fast fashion trend. Abstract

The discussion about the term ḥijāb has recently become interesting because the debate about its meaning is ambiguous in the linguistic aspect. The search for the true meaning is necessary so that the meaning of the word ḥijāb does not deviate from its original meaning. For this reason, it is necessary to have a way to explore the meaning of the word ḥijāb through a semantic approach. This study used the library research method, which was the data collected from the library. The approach used in this research was Toshihiko Izutsu's Semantics, which is known as a technique to reveal the philosophy of life or world view of the Qur'an (weltanschauung) by analyzing key vocabulary in the Qur'an. This study draws the conclusion that the word ḥijāb and its derivations are mentioned in the Qur'an eight times as contained in QS al-A'rāf [7]: 46, QS Maryam [19]: 17, QS al-Isrā’ [17]: 45, QS al-Aḥzāb [33]: 53, QS Ṣād [38]: 32, QS Fusṣilat [41]: 5, QS asy-Syūrā [42 ]: 51, and QS Al-Muṭaffifīn [83]: 15. This study found two weltanschauung or views of life regarding ḥijāb, namely: 1) The view of ḥijāb ḥissi (can be seen by the five senses) is to do things that are forbidden by Allah SWT for women who are not mahrams and ḥub ad-dunya or love the world, and 2) The view of ḥijāb ma'nawī (cannot be seen by the five senses) is a disbeliever whose heart is closed from the guidance of faith and a servant's conversation with his Lord.

Abstract

Interpretation as a human product is greatly influenced by the science and orientation of the interpreter. This leads to different interpretations of the Qur'an. A calamite interprets the Qur'an according to his level of knowledge as a mutakallim, as well as a Sufi. This article will show a comparison of the interpretation of the letter muqattha’ah between Imam Al-Maturidi in the book of Tafsir Ta’wilat Ahli As-Sunnah who is the figure of a calam scholar and Ibn Ajibah’s interpretation in his book Al-Bahru al-Madid fi Tafsir Al-Qur’an Al-Mayid as a Sufi scholar. The method applied in this research is qualitative using library studies, research based on library data. Then the data was analyzed using Peirce's semiotic triad theory. This article will describe how the interpretation of Imam Al-Maturidi as a fictional scholar and Ibn Ajibah as a Sufi scholar against the letter muqattha’ah that is located on the opening of the letter. It will begin with the introduction of the basic theory of semiotics Peirce, the understanding of the letters muqatta’ah, as well as the interpretations of letters muqa’ah by Imam al-Muridi and Ibnu Ajibha. Then this interpretation will be applied to the triadic theory Peirces, in the form of representations, objects and interpretations. It can be concluded that a mufasir is very influential as an interpreter of signs or symbols found in the Qur'an. As in the interpretation of Al-Maturidi and Ibnu Ajibah, the Maturidi who is a mutakallim is more inclined to the submission of the meaning to Allah.

Abstract

This article aims to examine in depth the style of interpretation of adabî-ijtima’î. Muhammad Abduh considered some books of tafsir at that time and earlier times to be arid and rigid, because many interpreters directed attention to linguistic technicalities without paying attention to social aspects and eventually moved away from the purpose of the Qur'an. Abduh gave a breakthrough to this problem by presenting the style of tafsir adabî-ijtima’î, which is a style of interpretation of the Quran whose presentation emphasizes the beauty of language (literature). At the same time, the description of the discussion is more directed at socio-cultural criticism and community improvement based on the hidayah of the Qur'an. This article is the result of library research using a descriptive-analytical approach. The ijtima'î style is a tafsir that emphasizes an in-depth study of social and socio-cultural conditions by finding social "pathologies" in a society, mufassir tries to dig up instructions or guidelines from the Qur'an to improve the social conditions of the community. This method aims to free the mind from the shackles of taqlid and improve the Arabic style.

Abstract

Nowadays, there are several alternative treatments undertook by certain practitioners to cure a person's illness. The diseases they treat are physical or non-physical. Physical disease is a disease that can be identified by medical science, while non-physical disease cannot be identified by medical science, it is called a non-medical disease. Physical ailments are examined and prescribed by doctors or other health professionals to relieve or cure the ailments. On the other hand, non-physical ailments are given alternative treatments such as prayer or certain herbs. The problems investigated in this study are as follows. First, the phenomenon of Quranic therapy to cure physical and non-physical ailments in Sumenep. Second, the meaning of Quranic therapy to cure physical and non-physical diseases in Sumenep. Third, the view of phenomenological theory on Quranic therapy to cure physical and non-physical diseases in Sumenep. The phenomenological approach is used to analyze data about Quranic therapy to cure physical and non-physical ailments. The meaning or essence behind the phenomenon is analyzed by releasing the surrounding empirical data and situation. The results of this study are, first: Surah Muhammad is often used for the treatment of ailments by the Sumenep Pragaan community. Sick people are recited the surah in the hope that their illness will be cured. The reading of Surah Muhammad for treatment is sometimes collaborated with readings other than the Qur'an such as burdah, ratibul haddad, or shalawat nariyah. In addition to the tradition of reciting Surah Muhammad, there is also a ruqyah tradition for treatment. Ruqyah is the practice of Al-Qur'an therapy carried out by Jam'iyah Ahl al-Ruqyah Aswaja (JRA) Sumenep to treat physical and non-physical ailments suffered by people in Sumenep Regency. Ruqyah therapists recite selected verses in performing Quranic therapy. Second, the meaning of reciting the verses of the Quran for medical treatment or non-medical therapy is actually an intermediary. In other words, healing is not determined by these readings. Third, the final stage of Husserl's phenomenological analysis is transcendental reduction, understanding phenomena by tracing the roots in the consciousness that manifests itself so that pure existence or subjects can be found. The pure existence or subject of reciting surah Muhammad, Surah al-Falak, and other verses in the practice of ruqyah is the awareness that all these things are done for the sake of expecting the blessing of Allah SWT.

Abstract

Cases of fake news have occurred since ancient times, where this act was pioneered by the Devil who made up false information and deceived Prophet Adam so that he was expelled from heaven. From here, fake news continues to grow and has several times affected righteous people such as Juraij, Siti Maryam and Siti 'Āisyah. In this modern era, fake news seems to be public consumption and many members of the public play a role as the main actors and masterminds of this act. Departing from this phenomenon, the author wants to examine the fake news story that happened to Siti ‘Āisyah and was immortalized by Allah in QS. an-Nūr: 11-22. The focus of the study in this article is how the fake news story (ḥadīṡ al-ifki) happened to Siti ‘Āisyah and what maqāṡid is contained in it. Maqāṡid approach used is maqāṡid al-Qurān Ibn 'Āsyūr. The article concludes that the Qur'ānic maqāṣid contained in the hadīth of al-ifki is correcting beliefs and guiding to the right path, moral improvement, establishing religious rulings (in this context, the prohibition of making false news) both general and specific, and giving advice both in the form of warnings and good news.
