Abstract

The high exposure to free radicals and glucose blood levels in diabetes potentially damage the body cells and decrease body immune status that is shown by changes in the number of blood cells that can cause complications. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of ethanol extracts of jeruju (holy mangrove) leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius L.) and taurine on hematopoiesis profile by measuring the number of erythrocytes, the number of leukocytes and the leukocytes differential. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) by 5 treatments with 5 repetitions conducted for 14 days. The treatment groups were: K1 negative control, K2 positive control (alloxan induced only), P1 induced by alloxan and given 100% ethanol extract of jeruju leaves at dose of 22.4 mg/bb/day, P2 induced by alloxan and given 50% ethanol extract of jeruju leaves dose of 22.4 mg/bb/day, and P3 induced by alloxan and given taurine dose of 15.6 mg/bb/day. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and followed by LSD test at the 5% level. The results showed that the administration of jeruju and taurin can maintain the number of leukocytes and the number of lymphocyte cells that were close to normal after induced by alloxan. But has no effect in the number of erythrocytes in mice

Abstract

Phyllanthus niruri L. is a medicinal plant that has been developed as phytopharmaca. The efforts to cultivate P. niruri need to be done to fulfil the large-scale and sustainable needs as raw material for traditional medicine. Propagation of P. niruri using seeds is still a problem, because the seeds have low seed germination. One of the plant hormones that play an important role in germination is gibberellins (GA3). This study aimed to determine the effect of concentration of GA3, soaking time, and the interaction of both factors on P.niruri seed germination, and determine the optimal concentration of GA3 and soaking time to increase germination of P.niruri seeds. It was arranged in a factorial completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor was the concentration of GA3 i.e 0, 300, 310, 320, 330, 340, 350, 360 ppm. The second factor was the soaking time i.e 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours. The parameters observed were the percentage of germination, germination time, and vigour index. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and DMRT (α = 0,05). The result showed that the interaction between GA3 concentration and soaking time had significantly affected the percentage of germination and vigour index. Soaking seeds in GA3 concentration of 360 ppm for 18 hours is the optimal treatment that produces a percentage of germination was 83.33%, germination time was 3.38 days, and vigour index was 2.74 seeds/day

Abstract

Bananas are one of the horticultural crops of the fruit group that have quite high social and economic value. One type of banana that is very popular is the pisang kepok. The main obstacle in pisang kepok  production is the availability of seedlings. The above constraints can be overcome by propagation of banana seedlings using tissue culture techniques by adding colchicine to the tissue culture media. Colchicine is often used to improve plant quality. This study aims to determine the effect of adding colchicine to the media on the growth and formation of pisang kepok abu plantlet. The study was conducted from November 2019 - February 2020 at the MTC Laboratory, PT Great Giant Pineapple PG 4, East Lampung. The concentration of colchicine added to the media was 0.1%. The growth and development of plantlets produced from media with colchicine treatment will be compared with plantlets from the control group. The tests were repeated 10 times. The results showed that the growth and formation of pisang kepok abu plantlets from the treatment of colchicine were lower than the growth and formation of the pisang kepok plantlets in the control group.

Abstract

Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC. Belongs to the Rutaceae family commonly used for cooking spices and medicinal plants and has the potential to be developed in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Publication on aspects of cultivation is still limited, and generative propagation using seeds is still a problem because the seeds have low seed germination. This happens because the seeds experience dormancy and have a hard seed coat structure. This research aims to know the effect of H2SO4 concentration and soaking time, and the interaction of both factors on Z.acanthopodium seed germination, and determine the optimal concentration of  H2SO4 and soaking time to increase the germination of Z. acanthopodium seed. This study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors. The first factor is the concentration of H2SO4 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%, and the second factor is the soaking time of 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes followed by soaking in water for 24 hours. The parameters observed were the percentage of germination, germination time, and vigor index. The observation data obtained were discussed descriptively. The results showed that the treatment of seeds soaking in H2SO4 at concentrations of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% with a soaking time of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes was not able to increase the germination power of andaliman seeds Z. acanthopodium. Soaking seeds in 75% H2SO4 for 60 minutes resulted in a germination percentage of 6.67%, a germination time of 7 days, and a vigor index of 0.05 seeds /day.

Abstract

Moths are insects that belong to the Lepidoptera Ordo. Moths are attracted to volatile compounds. The examples of volatile compounds include alcohol, urea, and acetic acid. Pineapple, banana and tapai are three types of bait that will be used in this study, because all three types of bait contain volatile compounds in the form of scents that strong enough to attract moths. Liwa botanical garden is a recreational and educational place, located in West Lampung district, which was only approved by the Regional Government in 2007. Because there is onlya view data on the presence of moths, so it needs to conduct the research to know the variation types of moths that exist in Liwa botanical garden, West Lampung. This research is a Quasy Experiment with 3 kinds of baits, there are pineapple, banana, and tapai as a treatment with 5 replications in the form of sampling time. The result obtained that in AraceaeLiwa Botanical Garden were obtained by six families, nine genera, and nine species of moth. Nine species of moths are Nemophora sp, Nematopogon sp, Brahmaeawallichii, Rhodogastriaamasis, Creatonosgungis, Sundasceliaepelys, Rheumaptera sp, Noctua sp, and Epicnopterix sp
