Abstract

This research analyzes about altruism found in the Hobbit film “The Batlle of Five Armies”.The Hobbit “The Battle of Five Armies”film is the last film from the Hobbit trilogy which is firstlypublished in 2012, then 2013 for next series and 2014 the last published. The Hobbit is one of filmadapted from the novel John Ronald Reul Tolkien. The Batlle of Five Armies tells about few ofhuman group trying to stay alive from Orcs the enemies of life with help each other. The aims ofthis research is explain type of altruism as found in in the Hobbit film “ The Battle of Five Armies”.This research uses descriptive method, because the datum of this research written on narrative,paragraphs, and descriptive. The writer finds out altruism consist of nepotisti, reiprocal and group.Furthermore, this research uses sociological approach. Sociological approaches help the writer toanalyze in social side.Based on the result, the writer concludes that altruism can happen in eachhuman relationship. There are relationships in family, friends, and groups. Finally, the writer knowsthat altruism can happened both by act and oral speech.

Abstract

PEMANFAATAN METODE CONTEXT CLUES UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETRAMPILAN MENERJEMAH MAHASISWA JURUSAN SASTRA INGGRIS FAKULTAS BAHASA UNIVERSITAS MUARA BUNGO merupakan sebuah penelitian mengenai bagaimana metode “context clues” dapat digunakan untuk melakukan penerjemahan bagi seorang penerjemah pemula seperti mahasiswa, khsusus mahasiswa sastra inggris Fakultas Bahasa Universitas Muara Bungo yang baru pertema kali mendapat mata kuliah penerjemahan. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengajarkan dan menjelaskan bagaimana seorang mahasiswa dapat melakukan penerjemahan tanpa mengandalkan kamus maupun perangkat lunak seperti google translate untuk melakukan penerjemahan. Tidak ada salahnya sebagai penerjemah pemula mahasiswa menggunakan kamus ataupun alat bantu google translate, namun alat bantu tersebut tidak dapat diandalkan sepenuhnya karena banyak kata atau kalimat dalam bahasa sumber tidak ditemukan padanan yang tepat dalam bahasa sasaran.            Bersadarkan kajian ini didapatkan bahwa selain dengan metode-metode yang sudah ada selama ini seperti yang dikemukakan Newmark, upaya meningkatkan ketrampilan menerjemah mahasiswa jurusan Sastra Inggris Fakultas Bahasa Universitas Muara Bungo dapat dilakukan dengan cara lain diantaranya yaitu: 1) Penerjemah pemula seperti mahasiswa dapat menggunakan metode context clue, namun sebelum melakukan penerjemahan seorang penerjemah wajib memperhatikan jenis teks yang akan diterjemah, karena antara teks sastra dan nonsastra terdapat perbedaan dalam penerjemahannya. 2) Metode context clue dapat digunakan pada teks sastra seperti novel atau puisi, pada teks sastra biasanya berisikan kalimat metafora, maka penerjemahannya tidak dilakukan dengan melihat kata perkata namun mencari kalimat metafora yang hampir serupa pada bahasa sasaran. 3) Penggunaan context clue pada teks nonsastra digunakan jika penerjemah menemukan kata atau kalimat yang sulit menemukan padanan maknanya maka dapat memaknainya dengan melihat kata atau kalimat petunjuk yang ada disekitanya disekitarnya. Kata Kunci: Metode penerjemahan, context clue

Abstract

This studies about Cooperative Principle found in Film Inside Out. The purposes of this research are to find out and explain the types of maxim those occur in film Inside Out and to explain the functions of the maxims those are found in film Inside Out. This analysis uses qualitative research as method and it has three procedures; they are collecting the data, analyzing the data and data presentation. In collecting the data, the writer uses non-participant observational method. In technique of collecting the data, the writer uses download and note taking technique. The analyzing of the data, the writer uses Sudaryanto’s theory that is referential method. The last procedure is data presentation is presented by using informal and formal method. The result of this analysis are From fifteen datum that the writer analyzed, maxim of quality is the most frequently found in line to the conversation. In addition, the datum that contain of maxim in Inside Out film have their own functions. It can be expressive, declarative, commissive, directive and representative. Abstract

This research is aimed  to gather  and describe the forms of idiom  and its meaning that used by the speaker of Jambi Malay Language Bungo Malay Dialect. There are three steps conducted in the research, they are collecting data, analyzing data, and presenting the result of analysis.Incollecting data, the method that is used known as observational and conversational method, by applying some techniques, namely non participant observational technique, note taking, record, and elicitation technique.Then, in analyzing data, the writer used descriptive qualitative approach in order to explain the forms and their meaning that resulted from the idioms.In addition, the writer also applay referential method in analyzing that can  connect and compare  the elements that belong to language itself.Moreover, the writer used informal method for presenting the result of analysis.By applying morphological approach in doing analysis,  the writer found that  idioms  derived from the combination of lexeme  outcome some parts of speech ,namely  adjective  is 28  words, noun  is 27  words, and verb is only  17 words. Finally, the writer concludes that the idiom expression that used by Jambi Malay Language Bungo Malay Dialect  speakers is mostly belong to adjective and noun . The appearance of these two kinds of  parts  of speech can be stated as the explanation of the condition and the nature of its topic from the speakers in communication process                                                                                     Keywords: Morphology, Idiom, Jambi Malay Language, Bungo Malay Dialect, Parts of Speech

Abstract

This research aims to identify the similarities and differences between phoneme of Rantau Pandan and Rantau Duku dialect. The data collection was done by using observation technique. Furthermore, the writer applied basic technique, continuing technique, record technique and writing technique. In gaining the data, the writer uses 200 words taken from Swadesh basic vocabularies, part of bodies, verb,noun and word orderThe result of this study indicates that there are similarities and differences of phoneme between Rantau Pandan dialect and Rantau Duku dialect. Out of 200 words, 120 are pronounced similarly in both dialects. The similarities may occur because both dialects have one root, i.e. Rantau Pandan Language.Meanwhile, there are 80 words which are uttered differently in both dialects. The differences are happened in phonemic change and phonemic deletion. The phonemic changes include the alteration of vowel and consonant sounds. In Meanwhile, the phonemic deletion includes the omission of vowel, consonant, and syllable.Key Words:      Phonemes, Rantau Pandan, Rantau Duku, Dialect

Abstract

The purposes of the research are 1) to classify the types of racism that appear in “Freedom Writers” film. 2) to find the effects felt by the characters in the “Freedom Writer” film.In conducting this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method, which is a research method that finds fundamental answers about racism and types of racism and explains the effects caused by racism's actions on the character of players in the film using the sociological approach.From the results of this research, the writer found 21 data that divided into type and effect, there are data consist of racism that occur in Freedom Writer Films and they have been grouped based on their type based on Wilson's E Charles theory (2005), they are 10 data Overt/ Individual Racism and 6 data Institutional racism. The writer also finds three of the five fundamental effects of racism there are 5 data based on the theory of Allport (1991) they are Anticuotin, Discrimination and Physical attack.From all the data given, it can be concludes that Individual racism is mostly appear in the film, and then followed by Institutional Racism and some effects that found in Freedom Writers film. Key Words: Effect of Racism, Sociological, Freedom Writers

Abstract

This research analyzes about the moral values found in the film My sister Keeper by Nick Cassavatess. The purposes of this research are to describe kinds of moral values and to describe the good impacts of moral values found in the film My Sister’s Keeper by Nick Cassavatess. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative methods proposed by Creswell (1994) which uses descriptive technique to describe and to analyze the data. The data is analyzed through some ways: identifying, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. In this research, the writer used theory from Linda and Eyre’s (1997). The results of this research are some kinds of moral value such as honesty, bravery, peace ability, self discipline, respect, kind and friendly, confidence, love and affection, fair and loyalty. The writer also explains the good impact of moral values on the main characters as seen in the film My Sister’s Keeper that Sara Fitzgerald and Anna Fitzgerald has different moral values but after Kate died, the relationship between both of them be better. The most dominant kinds of moral values found in the film My Sister’s Keeper by Nick Cassavetes is Bravery.Key words: Moral Value, Good impact, My Sister’s Keeper

Abstract

This thesis analyzes about proverbs meaning found in Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck film.There are some aims of the research, namely (1) to describe the proverbs meaning that belong to traditionaland cognitive metaphor (2) to describe the functions of proverbs meaning and (3) to explain the religion andculture values of proverbs used in Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck film. This research was conducted byusing descriptive qualitative method through applying several stages. The first one was by collecting datathrough three ways: (1) document technique, (2) observation technique and (3) note technique. The secondone analyzing data use identity method (metode padan). The third, the writer uses metaphor approaches toget the meaning of proverb that found in Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck film. The using of metaphor inthis research has two approaches those are traditional and cognitive metaphor. Meanwhile, the functionsand the values that contained in proverbs are explained in this research as well. From the result of theresearch, this research shows that proverb as the heritage of the culture and gives contribution significantlyto development of language as part of Minangkabau culture community.Key word: Proverbs, Minangkabau, Metaphorical Analysis

Abstract

This thesis analyzes about taboo and swear words in Deadpool movie using sociolinguistic approach. The purposes of this research are to analyze and explain types of taboo and swear words, functions of taboo and swear word, and reasons for using taboo and swear word. In analyzing the research, the writer uses sociolinguistic and some supporting theories. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data is formed in wordsand pictures. The data is analyzed through four procedures: identifying, classifying, analyzing and making conclusion. The results of this research are stated as follows. Firstly, four types of taboo words occur in the characters’ utterances in Deadpool movie; epithet, profanity, vulgarity, and obscenity. While for swear word, the type that dominant in the movie is private parts of body. In the function of taboo word, the writer only finds three from four functions. Then, for the reason of using taboo and swear word, the writer finds psychology and social class. Abstract

This research analyzes about the moral values and their good impacts in Hacksaw Ridge movie by Mel Gibson. The goals of this research are to explain the moral values and the good impacts of moral values itself from this movie. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method, because it helps the writer to explain the data in the form of phrase and sentence. The data is analyzed through some ways: identify, classify, analyze, and conclusion. The writer describes and analyses sentences from conversation of characters in Hacksaw Ridge Movie that contain moral values within it.             There are two kinds result in this research, they are moral values and their good impacts. Moral values that the writer found from this movie are moral values of being, such as honesty, courage, peace ability, self-discipline, self reliance and potential, and moral values of giving, such as loyalty, respect, love, and unselfishness. The writer also found some good impacts of these moral values. First, moral value can improve someone’s high self confidence. Second, moral value make someone has patience. And third, moral value can create someone’s care.           Key words: Good impact, Hacksaw ridge, Moral value.
