Abstract

This study aims to determine the peer-counselling skills profile who are the members of PIK R (Youth Counselling Information Center), Educational Pathways in Depok. This research used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The samples were selected by using non-probability sampling, saturation sampling technique applied. The sample of the research is all the members of PIK R Educational Pathways in Depok. The respondents are from public junior high school of SMP Negeri 1 (13 students), public junior high school of SMP Negeri 2 (12 students), public junior high school of SMP Negeri 5 (17 students), public vocational school of SMK Negeri 1 (37 students and public senior high school of SMA Negeri 1 (26 students). The instrument used was the Counselor Competencies Scale – Revised consisting of 12 assessment indicators, in which each indicator has 5 statements. Categorization in this study uses a Likert scale with 5 answer choices. The results of the study showed as follows: overall categorization value that the counseling skills of PIK R members exceeding expectations by 25%, meeting expectations by 37%, approaching expectations by 30%, below expectations by 6%, and endangering by 1%. The highest categorization results regarding the peer-counseling skills profile of PIK R members have met expectations of 37%. Therefore, it indicates that the peer counselors of PIK Depok members have knowledge, skills, consistent traits, and they are proficient in counseling skills. The result met the objectives of the Generation Planning Program (GenRe) training activities for peer educators and PIK R peer counselors, namely to improve the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of peer educators and counselors in the GenRe program in managing and developing Indonesian youth PIK, particularly in Depok.

Abstract

This descriptive study aims to discuss to what extent the teachers utilize ICT in teaching and learning activities, as teaching media and learning resources as well as the obstacles faced by teachers while utilizing ICT. The population of this study was the teachers of SMK Dar El Hikmah Boarding School selected by using total sampling technique (n: 20). Data were gathered by distributing a set of a questionnaire designed in the form of five points of the Likert scale. The data were analysed using Microsoft Excel 2010. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded the utilization of ICT in teaching and learning activities, in general, was in a high-level category, with a mean of 3.6. Specifically, the utilization of ICT in teaching and learning process was in high category level, and the utilization of ICT as teaching media and learning resources was in mediocre category level, with the mean score of 3.18. Obstacles related to the availability of facilities and infrastructures were faced by the teachers and some suggestions to overcome the problems are given in this research.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the level of communication ability of student in class X SMA PGRI Pekanbaru, through the implementation of the Student Facilitator and Explaining model on the material of momentum and impulses. This research was conducted in class X IPA of SMA PGRI Pekanbaru in 2019, amounting to 29 students, where male students numbered 14 people while female students numbered 15 people. The research design uses a type of pre-experimental design in the form of one shot case study. The research instrument used observation sheets for oral communication ability and assessment sheets for worksheet (LKS) reports for written communication. The results of the research were obtained based on indicators of verbal communication ability which include expressing information and ideas, giving attention when others are talking, responding, and asking questions, students have the communication ability with high categories. Furthermore, students' written communication ability for each meeting have increased with an average of each indicator which includes the accuracy of the answers and the quality of writing is categorized very high. Thus it was concluded that the communication ability of students in oral and written form in class X SMA PGRI Pekanbaru can be trained to be better through the application of cooperative learning models of Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE) types on momentum and impulse material.

Abstract

The research was aimed to find out the effect of gallery walk strategy toward reading comprehension of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was quasi-experimental research with an experimental group and control group pre-test and post-test. These two groups were selected to be a sample by using cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that t-test score was 2.351 while the t-table was 2.001. Since t-test score was higher than t-table, it can be concluded that alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that there is a significant effect of gallery walk strategy on reading comprehension of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out students’ factors and reasons of reluctance to speak English at the English Department FKIP UNRI. This is a descriptive research conducted by survey design. The instrument administered in this research was questionnaire containing 27 close-ended questions and 7 open-ended questions. The population of this research was 113 of the second semester English department students at FKIP UNRI and the sample of this research were IIB class and IIC class of second semester English Department students. The total number of students is 76 students. The collected data were analyzed using likert scale in order to know the factors and reasons of students’ reluctance to speak English. The result of data analysis showed that there are two factor of students’ reluctance to speak English. The first one is language factor which consists of pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. The second one is psychological factor which consists of lack of confidence, shyness, anxiety and motivation. The reasons of students’ reluctance base on each factor are afraid of being laughed while mispronouncing, difficulty in constructing sentences and using tenses, difficulty in using exact words, afraid of losing face, afraid of being looked as foolish, peer correction and influence of friends. In conclusion, the language factor and psychological factor contribute in the students’ reluctance to speak English at English Department FKIP UNRI. The highest index percentage on pronunciation indicator indicated that the students had problem with their pronunciation in speaking English and the highest index percentage on lack of confidence indicator indicated that the students had lower self-rating in speaking.
