Abstract

Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan untuk menemukan model pembelajaran yang sebaiknyadigunakan dosen dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa dan untukmenghasilkan sebuah modul yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara BahasaInggris mahasiswa FKIP Universitas Riau. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di FKIP Universitas Riau padasemester ganjil 2015-2016 Instrumen yang digunakanuntuk menemukan model pembelajaran yangsebaiknya digunakan dosen adalah angket dan wawancara semi-terstruktur. Penyusunan modul inimerujuk kepada model pengembangan Dick & Carey. Penyusunan modul ini juga melibatkan 3 orangpakar pengajaran dan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris (TEFL) dan pakar linguistik, 10 orang dosen dan40 orang mahasiswa untuk memberikan penilaian terhadap kelayakannya.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are: (1) to get clear description of students’ success inachieving basic competence on National Final Examination; (2) identify factors that caused unabilityof the students to acquire basic standard competence stated by the government; and (3) formulatealternative solution to increase the students’ standard competence at Bengkalis and Kepulauan MerantiRegency. The sample of this research were choosen based on the area of the school, SMAN IBengkalis, SMAN I Tebing Tinggi and SMAN Rangsang. The object of the research is English. Therewere two kinds of data needed in this research. Primary data gained from indepth interview,observation and questionaire, while secondary data obtained from documentation study. The result ofthe research indicated that some of the eight aspects stated by National Standard of Education were notapplied well, so it needs improvement.

Abstract

This is a Quasi-experiment research used to determine theeffectiveness of using M-WebQuest towards reading comprehension achievementof private senior high school students in Pekanbaru - Riau. Sampel of this researchinvolved 260 students that consisted of 130 students for treatment group and 130students for control groups. This involved eight classes from two senior highschools in Pekanbaru - Riau Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnairesand test on students’ reading comprehension achievement. The test was analyzedusing ANATESV4 and SPSS 19.0. The analysis of the data obtained throughquasi-experiment reveals that there is significant difference between students’reading comprehension achievement taught by using M-WebQuest compared tothose who are taught conventionally. The study implication shows that the teachershould use various approaches in teaching and learning process. Using M-WebQuest is one of the way and it can improve students’ reading comprehensionachievement.Keywords: M-WebQuest, reading comprehension achievement

Abstract

This descriptive study aims to discuss to what extent the teachers utilize ICT in teaching and learning activities, as teaching media and learning resources as well as the obstacles faced by teachers while utilizing ICT. The population of this study was the teachers of SMK Dar El Hikmah Boarding School selected by using total sampling technique (n: 20). Data were gathered by distributing a set of a questionnaire designed in the form of five points of the Likert scale. The data were analysed using Microsoft Excel 2010. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded the utilization of ICT in teaching and learning activities, in general, was in a high-level category, with a mean of 3.6. Specifically, the utilization of ICT in teaching and learning process was in high category level, and the utilization of ICT as teaching media and learning resources was in mediocre category level, with the mean score of 3.18. Obstacles related to the availability of facilities and infrastructures were faced by the teachers and some suggestions to overcome the problems are given in this research.

Abstract

This research was intended to know whether communicative activities in small group discussions can improve the students' speaking skill at the third semester Class A of the English Study Program of FKIP UNRI. The researcher was helped by a collaborator and used observation sheets and field notes as the instruments of the research. Besides, she also used speaking test to see the improvement of students' speaking skill on each cycle. The research started on September 23,2008 and ended on January 9, 2009. At the beginning of cycle 1the average score of the students' speaking skill was 48.3. At the end of cycle 1, it improved to 55.7, at the end of cycle 2 it improved to 62.6, and at the end ofcycle3itimproved to 73.4.The factors of communicative activities in small group discussions that influence the students' speaking skill are: (1) Clear objectives; (2) problem solving activities; (3) a good classroom atmosphere; (4) natural learning process (5) uncontrolled materials; (6) indirect corrections; and (7) interaction with partners or group members. Based on the finding, it was concluded that communicative activities of small group discussions can improve students' speaking skill at the third semester Class A of the English Study Program of FKIP UNRI

Abstract

Abstract: This correlational study is aimed to find out the correlation between grammar mastery and reading comprehension of the second grade students of SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. The sample was chosen by using cluster random sampling as many as 37 students. The instrument used in this study was the tests; grammar test and reading comprehension test. Grammar test is used to know the students’ grammar mastery while reading comprehension test is used to find out the students’ ability in understanding a text. The obtained data were assessed by using Product Moments formula and analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 for windows. Based on the data analysis, it shows that there is moderate, significant and positive correlation between grammar mastery and reading comprehension of the second grade students of SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. Therefore, it answered the research question that there is a correlation between grammar mastery and reading comprehension.Key Words: Correlation, grammar mastery, reading comprehension

Abstract

Abstract: This research is inteended to know what the mistakes made by students in reading vocabulary of Katakana and what are the underlying factors. The research uses quantitative descriptive method. The object of the research is the second grade (2016/2017) Japanese Language Education, Theahers Training and Education Faculty, University of Riau that consist 66 students. Data completion technique by giving a test and questionnaire. The test used ti find out what the mistakes made by students in reading vocabulary of Katakana, based on the data processing tests there are some mistakes such as students are still less master the letter that has similarity, students are still less master the letter that are marked Dakuten and students still lack understanding and dificult to distinguish the letter using small version. Then the questionnaire is to determine the underlying factors of the wind errors made by student. Based on the results of questinnaire data analysis can be concluded that the underlying factors of the wind errors made by students because of leaning strategies, the age of bilingualism and sociolinguistic situation.Keywords: Factors and Error Analysis, Reading, Katakana

Abstract

Abstract: This classroom action research aimed to find out whether mind- mapping strategy can improve students’ writing ability in analytical exposition text and to find out to what extend mind mapping improve students’ writing ability in analytical exposition text. This research was conducted at MA Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru from March to October 2015. The number of participant was 31 students of XI social class. This research consisted of two cycles. The instruments of this research were writing test, observation sheet, and field note. The finding showed that the average score of pre- test was 56.88. It improved to 70.18 in the first post test and 78.75 in the second post test. Based on the improvement, it can be concluded that mind mapping strategy can improve the ability of the second year students of MA Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru in writing analytical exposition text. In addition, mind mapping strategy also improves students’ writing ability in all aspects of writing.Keywords: action research, writing ability, mind mapping, analytical exposition texts

Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive research aimed to find out the ability of the first grade students of SMAN 1 Simpang Kanan Rokan Hilir in Reading Comprehension. The population of the research is the first grade students of SMAN 1 Simpang Kanan and the sample is 32 students. The instrument used in this research is a reading test. This reading test consisted of 35 questions . Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the ability of the first grade students of SMAN 1 Simpang Kanan Rokan Hilir in reading comprehension is in good level with mean score is 63.14. Further, the result shows that there are 2 students who are in excellent level, 18 students are in good level, 8 students are in average level, and 4 students are in poor level.Key Words: Students’ Ability, Reading Comprehension
