Abstract

Ghazwul Fikr as a form of attack that emphasizes the basis of human thought becomes a means of perpetuating the power of the capitalist system and also includes the ideology used by oligarchs in controlling power so that no doubt the younger generation, especially Islamic students are often persuaded and faced with a choice, between individual interests and public interests. This study aims to analyze the working mechanism of Ghazwul Fikr as a global political tool in invading the younger generation of Islam and identify oligarchic networks and relations in the lives of Islamic students. This study uses a descriptive method with a literature study approach. The results of this study indicate that Ghazwul Fikr is not only a tool of thought invasion for adherents of Islam but also as a tool to perpetuate the power of capitalism in the economic and political system in Indonesia as well as the involvement of Islamic students in the oligarchic structure.

Abstract

Folklore are oral traditions which are commonly told and retold among members of a certain community in the forms of stories, legends, narratives, beliefs, and taboos. This research explores the persistence of the concept of mari-it (literally, “dangerous”) as a regulator of environmental resources in Guimaras Island, Philippines. The research made use of two of the indigenous research methods identified in Sikolohiyang Pilipino as appropriate in Philippine culture. To select the barangays to be the study sites for this research, the indigenous variant of the interview, pakikipagkuwentuhan (“story-telling”) was used. On the other hand, data required for this study was gathered through another indigenous research method, pagtatanong-tanong, a Filipino word which means "asking questions”. This research finds that folklore, particularly the belief in the concept of mari-it, serves as a regulator of natural resources since it limits people’s activities in some areas which are believed to be the dwelling places of spiritual beings. As a result, natural resources in these places remain undisturbed or their exploitation is minimal. It is recommended to make use of these oral traditions to promote ecological consciousness and awareness among people. We can incorporate these oral traditions to our ecological conservation practices that can develop further our environmental management efforts.

Abstract

The Philippines Commission on Higher Education (CHED) made a landmark policy declaration when it released Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 01, series of 2015, or "Establishing the Policies and Guidelines on Gender and Development in CHED and Higher Educational Institutions" which seeks to institutionalize gender equality, responsiveness, and sensitivity in all facets of Philippine higher education." In response to this CMO, this study was conducted not only to evaluate the participants’ reactions, learning, behavioral change, and applications of the Gender and Development (GAD) training they attended but also to obtain suggestions for the improvement of succeeding training. Mixed method was used. Random sampling was applied in selecting the participants. Twenty-eight teachers and staff were involved. Convergence of data and information revealed that GAD training brought significant and favorable benefits to the participants. However, the participants were keen on the qualifications of the resource speakers; mediocre attendees; repetition of topics; involvement of other stakeholders; planning and organizing of the training. It also revealed that the participants highly regarded the applicability of the concepts presented in the GAD training. It was suggested that GAD organizers need to strategize and make thorough planning by looking at every detail of the training.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the analysis of conventional financial market instrument and Islamic money markets in Indonesia. Money market is a mechanism for trading funds in the short term, i.e. funds with a maturity of less than one year. Whereas Islam views money only as a medium of exchange, not commodities or merchandise. The research method uses the library research method. Where researchers do not directly conduct research in a company, but use the library as a source of data needed. The results obtained can be concluded as follows: 1. The difference between conventional financial markets and Islamic financial markets lies in the mechanism of control. On conventional financial markets, instruments issued are instruments sold at a discount and based on interest calculations. While the Islamic money market is more complex and approaches the capital market mechanism, which contains investment, cooperation and others namely Mudharabah, Musyarakah, qard, and Wadi’ah but only in the short term; 2. Instruments on conventional money markets include bank Indonesia certificates, money market securities, certificates of deposit, Commercial Paper, Call Money, Repurchase Agreement, Banker's Acceptance; 3. Abstract

The radicalism discourse that has been quite widespread in the last two decades has produced various responses, ranging from counter-narrative, de-radicalization, and counter-radicalism efforts. This paper investigates specifically how efforts to counter radicalism are pursued from civil society initiatives, one of which is Young Interfaith Peacemaker Community (YIPC) in Yogyakarta. Using an interpretative phenomenological approach, this qualitative research explores several motives behind the counter-radicalism movement that they organize and are equipped with a visible hybrid portrait of identity. Observation, informal interviews, and documentation are operated as data retrieval techniques. The literature review was also deepened to elaborate data and develop argumentative narratives. The results obtained show that the three dialectical reasons that trigger them to counter radicalism are a collective awareness, imagined common enemy, and claims of youthfulness. In particular, the hybridization of identity that has been captured in this community can also be observed in changes in attitude, perspective, and behavior patterns of individuals—before joining and when joining YIPC Yogyakarta. Borrowing from Gadamer’s concept, this was due to the mixture of horizons which later gave birth to a fused or assimilated character (hybrid) and reflected in their speech, attitudes, social media content, and social actions.

The description will explain in the form of a descriptive analysis approach. The data is collected from recorded social media documentation and literature studies. Meanwhile, the theory that will be used in this research is the theory of oral exegesis, which was initiated by Andreas Gorke. The author concludes that the oral practice developed by Quraish Shihab has two faces, namely the context in the Qur'an and the hadith, while the second is the context outside the text of the Qur'an and hadith which is more social in society.

Abstract

In early modern South Asia, the Afghans shared a fraught relationship with the Mughal Empire. Several Afghan groups resisted Mughal authority, while some also allied with the empire. In this context, this paper will investigate the utility of the concept of fitna in helping us make sense of this complex history. It focuses on the actions of the Afghans in relation with Mughal wars directed against them between 1585, which marked the Mughal annexation of Kabul and the beginning of Akbar’s campaigns against the Afghans of Afghanistan, and 1612—when Khwaja Usman, an important Afghan zamindar was defeated by Mughal forces in Sylhat in eastern Bengal. In this paper I also intend to ask whether the Afghans, in the late-sixteenth and early-eighteenth centuries, behaved as one community, who stuck together as a community, or operated as more splintered sub-groups. The paper will be based on two literary texts: Abul Fazl’s Akbar-nāma which is a detailed biographical account of the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar. The second is Mirza Nathan’s Bahāristān-i Gh ā’ibī. It is a neglected source on the history of the Mughal campaigns in eastern India during the early-seventeenth century. The paper will have two sections, focusing respectively on the Afghans in Afghanistan and the Afghans in Bengal. The region of Afghanistan denotes the mountainous region located roughly to the south and east of Hindu Kush and to the north and west of the Indus River. This is the earliest attested homeland of the Afghans. The part of Bengal that I have taken into consideration was known as “Bhati” or East Bengal. This area included the entire delta east of the Bhagirathi-Hooghly River and roughly corresponds with modern Bangladesh.

Abstract

There are many bilingual books spread in various bookstores in Indonesia. Bilingual books are not only used in schools but also used by parents to introduce foreign languages to children from an early age, in this case English. The basic question that arises is, with the wide distribution of the bilingual book, how is the quality standard or quality of the book? In the preliminary research conducted by the author, there were several findings that bilingual books have an English translation version that is not in accordance with the translation rules. This research aimed to describe in more detail these findings. This research was descriptive research with document analysis. The data source of this research was a bilingual book. The results of this research indicated that there were inappropriate translations, which included, 1) errors in word selection (diction) 2) translations with Indonesian grammar so that they do not meet English rules 3) inconsistent in word use. These results provided recommendations on the importance of maintaining the quality or quality of bilingual books. In addition, the government needs to supervise publishers and provide assistance, especially in the publication process.
