Abstract

In the process of learning a song work, constraints often occur in students' limited memory. The song material given at the first meeting will be forgotten when reviewed at the second meeting, to overcome this we try to apply number notation as a way for students to recall the tone of the song that has been given. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency and response of the application of number notation to song learning in junior high school. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, the data collection technique used in this study is to provide a pre-test and post-test which contains 10 questions regarding numerical notation. The findings of this study gave a positive response to the students, in the initial pre-test found results that were not good because many of the students did not understand numeric notation at all, but after that they were shown a video of reading material notation of numbers and then a post-test was carried out, the results were good. The students made progress after seeing the video. The conclusion of this study is to implement numeric notation in the song learning process, making it easier for students to memorize the material and making it easier for teachers in the process of conveying it, thus it is hoped that it can be a solution to the problems previously mentioned.

Abstract

The need to evaluate the status of qualitative research, particularly in childhood education, is required. Four questions were answered and three hypotheses were tested. A mixed-method approach design was adopted in this research. The population of the study comprised all childhood education researchers from all the teacher training institutions in Kwara State, Nigeria. 58 researchers were purposively selected to participate in the study. A questionnaire and interview were used to collect the necessary data for the study. The outcome of the study revealed that the qualitative research method is rarely adopted for research related to childhood education. Also, time, secrecy, participants’ unwillingness, cost implication among others were identified as dilemmas to conducting qualitative research in childhood education in the State. The quality of qualitative research conducted in childhood education is on average. The ratio of quantitative research as against qualitative research conducted by childhood educators was found to be 1:8. In other words, there was a significant difference in the number of quantitative and qualitative research conducted. In addition, gender and academic qualification had no significant influence on childhood educators’ use of qualitative research methods. Thus, it was concluded that the status of qualitative research in childhood education in Kwara State, Nigeria is ranked low. Among the recommendations made are training and re-training of teacher trainers of childhood education on the benefits and how to use qualitative research methods.

Abstract

Shell and tube heat exchangers are one of the most widely used types of heat exchangers in industry. The low cost of manufacture and use is one of the reasons this heat exchanger is widely used. The purpose of this research is to design a shell and tube heat exchanger (two-pass) type for application in the production of magnetite particles on an industrial scale. To design a heat exchanger, the method used is mathematical calculations using more than 20 equations that are used which are derived based on the influence of dimensional and fluid specifications. In the production of magnetite particles, two heat exchangers are used, namely the reaction process and the crystallization process. The results of this study indicate the effectiveness of the two heat exchangers designed to have a high enough value and exceed 70%. This high effectiveness value indicates that both heat exchangers have good performance. Therefore, this design has the potential to be applied to the magnetite particle synthesis process on an industrial scale.

Abstract

The study examined the relationship between insecurity and assessment practices in universities in Katsina State, Nigeria. The study adopted a correlation research design. The population was made up of 14,963 final-year students in the two public universities in Katsina State. A sample of 372 students from two universities was used for this study. This sample size was determined by cluster random sampling techniques. The instruments for data collection were sets of constructed rating scales titled Insecurity Rating Scale (IRS), Lecturers Instructional Assessment Procedure Scale (LIAPS), and Students’ Test-taking Practice Scale (STTPS). The rating scales were validated by three specialists in Educational Measurement and Evaluation for face and content validity before administering them to the respondents. The reliability of the instruments was established at 0.76, 0.78, and 0.77 for IRS, LIAPS, and STTPS respectively using the Cronbach alpha statistic. The research questions were answered with PPMCC while the hypotheses were tested with simple linear regression at a 0.05 level of significance. It was found among others that there is a very low correlation between insecurity and assessment practices in universities in Katsina State. This indicates that as insecurity increases, assessment practices decrease in universities, showing a converse link between the variables. It was recommended that since insecurity negatively affects assessment in universities, the state and federal government should ensure that security officers are provided in the universities to improve Lecturers' instructional assessment.

Abstract

The primary objective of this descriptive study was to find out the students’ assessment of teaching among college teachers during the first semester of the academic year, 2021-2022. Based on the findings of the study, it is very consoling to note that the college faculty of Notre Dame of Tacurong College had remained steadfast in their commitment to carrying out the vision and mission of the institution to offer quality education to its clientele. This was evident that even in difficult times, their effort to adjust to the new normal mode of teaching and learning is noteworthy. The overall result is inspiring. However, the school can still do many things to improve or increase the knowledge of the college teachers on innovative methods of teaching to promote student learning. The approachability of teachers can be strengthened to help students in need of guidance to do their classwork correctly. Another recommendation is to conduct the same study in the middle of a term so that student feedback on teachers’ performance in delivering the lessons can be addressed immediately. In addition, it should be conducted with individual teachers and their specific subjects being taught.
