Abstract

Menopause is something that cannot be avoided, especially in women, as an aging process. This condition will cause various kinds of disorders, both physical and psychological, which will have a negative impact, both short and long-term, especially on the quality of life and physical and mental health of women. Complaints that many menopausal women feel are a decrease in physical function and complaints of anxiety. It is believed that acupressure therapy can be a straightforward alternative for every individual to reduce both physical and psychological complaints in women. This research aimed to prove the effect of independent acupressure therapy on reducing anxiety levels and menopausal complaints in mothers. The research used a quasi-experimental pre - and post-test design approach in the case and control groups, with treatment in the case group as acupressure therapy with the fingers. The research respondents were 32 menopausal mothers aged 45 - 60 using purposive sampling. An elderly Posyandu conducted this research in the Mekar Baru Community Health Center, Tanjungpinang City. Data analysis used an independent samples test and paired samples t-test. The research results showed that there was a decrease in the level of anxiety and menopausal complaints after the independent acupressure intervention with the fingers with a p-value <0.05. The recommendations of this research are the importance of independent acupressure intervention to overcome the problem of physical complaints and anxiety in menopausal women.

Abstract

Visual acuity issues frequently arise in teens and require care because of their significant impact on several parts of life, including learning. Adolescents may experience a decline in their visual acuity due to various circumstances, including exposure to light emitted by gadgets. The initial investigation revealed that some students exhibited a decrease in visual sharpness despite the infrequent use of gadgets. Conversely, some students reported normal visual sharpness despite frequent use of electronic gadgets. This phenomenon has interested researchers seeking to investigate the correlation between the amount of time teenagers spend using gadgets and their visual acuity. This study was observational and had a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of students from class X and XI who were pursuing a focus in Audio Video Engineering Expertise at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. The complete sampling technique was used to select 41 respondents for the sampling process. The measuring device utilized consisted of a questionnaire sheet to record the time of gadget usage, along with an eye acuity observation sheet employing the Snellen Chart. The statistical analysis used Kendall's Tau test. The findings indicated that a significant proportion of participants, specifically 35 individuals (85.4%), fell into the high-usage group for gadgets. Additionally, a majority of participants, specifically 25 individuals (61%), exhibited anomalies in their visual acuity. The statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.001 <0.05, indicating a significant association between the duration of gadget use and ocular acuity in adolescents. The correlation coefficient of 0.511 indicates a moderate relationship between these two variables. Adolescents should decrease their time using electronic devices to lower the likelihood of experiencing a decline in visual sharpness.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are one of the discomforts of third-trimester pregnant women that affect the quality of sleep. One of the non-pharmacological methods to help reduce sleep disturbances is back massage. The study aimed to determine the effect of back massage on third-trimester pregnant women's sleep quality. This type of research was pre-experimental, using the One Group Pretest Posttest Design approach. The population in this study was a third-trimester pregnant woman who checked her pregnancy at PMB Dince Safrina Pekanbaru City in February-March 2023. The sample in this study amounted to 15 pregnant women in the third trimester who had a PSQI score > 5, which was taken by purposive sampling. The data collection method was observation using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. The results showed that the average sleep quality of pregnant women before the intervention was 7.67 (Sd = 1.34), and the average sleep quality after the back massage intervention. 5.73 (Sd = 0.69). Based on statistical tests, back massage affected the sleep quality of pregnant women in the third trimester (pvalue= 0.001). It is expected that health workers, especially midwives at PMB Dince Safrina, can apply back messaging as a non-pharmacological therapy for treating sleep disorders in third-trimester pregnant women.

Abstract

This editorial attempts to delineate the obstacles faced by the Sanitation Clinic program in the era of technology advancements in Era Society 5.0. The Sanitation Clinic is one of the environmental health services provided by Puskesmas. The sanitation clinic serves as a specialized clinic for the care of diseases related to the environment. The sanitation clinic is a comprehensive initiative combining promotive, preventive, and curative health services targeting vulnerable populations to address diseases caused by unsanitary living conditions. This initiative is implemented by health center personnel in collaboration with the community, both within and outside the clinic premises, through both passive and active approaches. The sanitation clinic faces challenges while supporting disease control, particularly in limiting disease transmission based on environmental factors. Enhancing collaboration, augmenting the sanitarian workforce, addressing knowledge gaps, and providing sufficient financial backing are necessary for improving sanitation clinics. Furthermore, it is imperative to employ technology to confront the era of the 5th industrial revolution and formulate more efficient environmental health policies using sanitation clinics.
