Abstract

Politics is not socially empty. Therefore, politicians must also find the right strategy to increase popularity and electability. One way that can be used is the use of social media. Social media is now widely used by political actors as a means to absorb aspirations in the political field. One of the social media that is currently widely used as a political tool is TikTok. As of April 2022, there are 99,072,000 TikTok users in Indonesia or 51.1% of the Indonesian population aged 18 years and over. This article aimed to explore how Ganjar Pranowo built his self-image through his TikTok account @ganjarpranowofc and what storytelling strategies were used in that image. A qualitative approach with a content analysis method is used in writing this article. There are 252 videos from the TikTok account @ganjarpranowo were analyzed from January to May 2022. This article uses the political image category approach described in Liebhart and Bernhardt's research (2017) as a basis for analysis. From this research, Ganjar Pranowo simplifies political issues in his imagery efforts. In addition, there are indications of three storytelling strategies used in political imagery on the TikTok account: the biographical strategy, the incumbent strategy, and the Kagama chairman strategy.

The researcher method follows the steps outlined by Philip Mayring for analyzing the podcast's content, categorizing the audio content based on episode titles, examining the aspects of the communicator, and interpreting the meaning of the categories. The analysis revealed three main themes: lonely love, love that is too late, and past love, indicating that listeners preferred content focused on romance, particularly stories about unrequited love, missed opportunities, and past relationships. The researcher suggests that these categories can be further explored and tested in future studies related to content analysis in specific topics.

Abstract

If nothing is accomplished to stop it, the virality of fake news on social media will continue to grow and become more damaging, particularly among young people. Recognizing false information and verifying sources has become increasingly important as people rely on the Internet and social media for their news. The primary objective of this study is to assess the level of understanding of fake news media literacy among university students. Forty-three Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia students enrolled in the New Media Communication program were polled for this research. This study uses descriptive statistics to analyze the data collected via Google Forms—the results of examining the data generated immediately through a Google form. Young people read the news online but still have limited media literacy when assessing the truth of information. Research suggests that false statement is commonly discovered because young people do not carefully examine online news. Researchers conduct in-depth interviews and studies with this demographic to better understand how young people process information and evaluate its veracity. This research adds to the expanding body of knowledge on student use of social media in Malaysia, especially on how students get their news in light of the results of this pilot study, the main research project will consist of in-depth interviews with students to understand more about their perspectives on how to identify and differentiate between real and fake news.

Abstract

The film has the power to influence gender ideology. The preservation of gender ideology can be noticed in the portrayal of women as weak people who are always intimidated both physically, sexually, and economically. The image of women as weak creatures is depicted in the Layangan Putus film series. These film series reach the highest rank in several Southeast Asian countries. The film describes a wife's pressure from her husband's affair and her struggle to overcome it. This study aims to analyze the representations of women in the context of images and scenarios in a film shown in the film series Layangan Putus using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. Barthes introduces the concept of denotation, connotations, and myths. The results revealed that the denotation analysis and connotation level in the Layangan Putus film series confirm women's opposition to gender roles. Furthermore, this opposition aligns with Liberal Feminism seeking to liberate women from male domination. Liberal feminists aim to liberate women from gender-based constraints, challenging the lower status assigned to them solely due to their sex. On the other hand, true equality can be achieved by embracing androgynous perspectives, recognizing that both men and women possess characteristics of femininity and masculinity.

Abstract

In the ethnically diverse nation of Indonesia, conflicts rooted in issues of Ethnicity, Religion, Race, and Inter-Group (SARA) have long been a persistent problem, particularly affecting ethnic Chinese who have faced marginalization and sociocultural challenges, including name changes and stereotypes. The Meranti Islands have been in the spotlight of the national media several times because of the various conflicts that occurred, both political conflicts and conflicts between ethnicities, tribes and even religions such as the burning of Chinese Ethnic Shophouses. These conflicts, driven by differences in interests and interference among groups, have sometimes led to tensions, discrimination, and even riots. The research aims to analyze Abdurrahman Wahid's political da'wah from the perspective of non-Muslim minority groups in the Meranti Islands Regency. This research is field research type. The research method uses qualitative methods. Data was collected through questionnaires and interviews and strengthened by a literature review. The research results show two thoughts regarding Islamic politics; first, 85% of the non-Muslim community in Meranty Island strongly supports Abdurrahman Wahid's Islamic political da'wah to be realized in public policies. The non-Muslim minority groups support Abdurrahman Wahid's political da'wah to maintain the Islamic taught about the rights and obligations of citizens and protect minority groups. With a percentage of 93%, they considered Abdurrahman Wahid to have carried out the function of Islamic teachings to do good deeds in a moderate and tolerant humanitarian and political life.

Abstract

Terrorism always creates social, economic, and political chaos. Acts of terrorism in Indonesia are generally caused by religious beliefs and radical understandings held by the perpetrators. Terrorist convicts still maintain this belief, so a special approach is needed to run the deradicalization process effectively. Therefore, this research discusses issues regarding applying effective communication in the deradicalization process for terrorism convicts. An effective communication approach is positioned to support apparatus programs in the deradicalization process. This study uses a phenomenological approach to understand better the views and experiences of terrorism convicts undergoing the deradicalization process. The aim is to find and analyze effective forms of communication in the deradicalization process for terrorism convicts. The results of this study indicate that effective communication in the deradicalization process for terrorism convicts can be achieved through an approach that involves real and continuous attention, dialogue that is very careful about religious understanding, avoiding the act of extracting information about terrorist networks from the Police and BNPT; as well as people involved in handling terrorism; and applying an empathetic communication approach in embracing terrorism convicts, so that they do not return to the same environment and get a decent life. This approach also aims to ensure that former terrorism convicts feel cared for and valued by society.

Abstract

Film as an art form is a representation of reality. However, film can also mean reality itself, which is visualized. Film or cinema is embedded in culture and has an exciting relationship with ideology and audience. Thus, films can intervene in human thoughts and feelings. The storyline and film content convey the culture and myths that develop in society. Among the cultural forms that are also part of a film’s narrative is patriarchal culture. Patriarchy is a social system that places men as the main authority figure in social organization. The position of men is higher than that of women in all aspects of social, cultural and economic life. This study aimed to find out the meaning of the audience regarding the patriarchal culture depicted in the film “Yuni”. This research approach is qualitative with the reception analysis method of Stuart Hall’s ‘encoding-decoding’ model. Data collection techniques used focus group discussions (FGD) with five informants. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the informants are in the opposite position in depicting patriarchal structures in aspects of the patriarchal state, male violence, patriarchal relations and patriarchal culture. They interpret it as a picture of the patriarchal structure still shackles women’s lives.

Abstract

Social conflicts resulting from differences in religious beliefs and beliefs need to be managed to resolve differences and build lasting consensus. Therefore, the issue of harmony between religious and cultural communities and existing beliefs, both locally and nationally, is a big problem that cannot be ignored and needs serious attention from all parties. Therefore, if religious conflict occurs frequently, it can destroy human values and the foundation of human life. The method used in this research is qualitative with a literature study approach. The results of this research are that people have the freedom to consume whatever form of media they like, but the media itself must function as a filter in deciding what news to cover so that it can function as a social glue for issues such as religious tolerance. The existence of the media as a means of disseminating information demands responsibility to society. Misuse of social events in the media will have a negative impact on society. The existence of the media as a means of disseminating information demands responsibility to society. Misrepresenting social events in the media can potentially have devastating consequences for society.
