Abstract

This research is motivated by a situation where students' reading interest is low, so there is a need for media that can make students interested in reading and learning. Webtoon is an online comic application that is quite in demand by readers of various ages, Webtoons can also be used as learning media to increase motivation and reading comprehension. The aim of this research wants to discuss about how to use Webtoon as a medium for learning reading comprehension and whether Webtoon is in accordance with the computer-Assisted Language Learning Criteria (CALL). This study uses qualitative methods, data collected by interview techniques. The respondents in this study were 6 students from 6 TBI B who use the Webtoon application as a medium for learning reading comprehension. This research was analyzed using Chapelle theory, which has six criteria where indicate that an application can be learning media. The results of this study show that using Webtoon as a medium for learning reading comprehension is in accordance with the criteria for Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), namely language learning potential, learner fit, meaning focus, authenticity, positive impact and practically. The majority of respondents gave positive comments on every aspect put forward by Chapelle. Therefore, Webtoons can be used as an interesting medium for learning reading comprehension.

Abstract

During the pandemic era of Covid-19, learning innovation like Learning Management System (LMS) has widely employed in various levels of education. The use of LMS for teaching and learning process is useful during the spread of coronavirus. This research itself aimed to find out the students’ perception of LMS used to teach English in SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Cilongok. This research employed descriptive qualitative method. The participants of this research were students of SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Cilongok. The instrument for collecting the data was a closed-questionnaire. After the data collection, the researchers analyzed the data by calculating the percentage of the response on each item in the questionnaire. The results revealed that the students gave positive responses to the LMS employed in SMK Ma’arif NU 1 Cilongok since most of the students’ responses were on agree or strongly agree scale. Overall, the students’ perception about the LMS could be divided into five categories called the perception about the features and display, the system quality, the perceived usefulness, the satisfaction, and the English competence.

Abstract

None had predicted the amount of the recession that is caused and still by the Coronapandemic, and its disastrous effects on all areas of work around the world. Among thevital sectors hit by the pandemic are private language and training institutes that were notprepared for this invasion, as it paralyzed their performance. Vision InternationalAcademy ranked an advanced position in the educational and training arena in Malaysiafor 10 years, but its record declined due to the constraints of Corona. The paper is one offew scientific studies that dealt with this phenomenon in a country like Malaysia, which isconsidered a leading educational hub in the region and the world, by adopting thedescriptive analytical approach as it is the most appropriate in dealing with the nature andrequirements of this study, and focused on exploring the depths of this phenomenon,starting with a review of the bright history of the Academy as a model before Corona, thendiscussing and analyzing the causes of stagnation and its manifestations, and ending withdissecting the data and results to extract conclusions, recommendations and proposals thatthe researcher submits to all the players in the education system in language and traininginstitutes to remedy the negatives and avoid what happened in the future.

Abstract

A method is important for a directed, effective, and efficient teaching process. One method in teaching Arabic is the eclectic method. This study aims to describe (1) the purpose and the planning of teaching Arabic and at Al-Fitrah Arabic Course Pare, (2) the implementation of eclectic methods in teaching Arabic at Al-Fitrah Arabic Course Pare, and (3) the optimalization of eclectic methods in teaching Arabic at Al-Fitrah Arabic Course Pare. This research is qualitative. Sources of data in this study are reports of interviews and observations. This study uses Miles and Huberman's data analysis technique which consists of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that (1) the purpose of teaching Arabic at Al-Fitrah Arabic Course Pare is that students could speak Arabic well, and the students classified into five levels, (2) Al-Fitrah Arabic Course Pare combines the direct method and the translate method, (3) optimalization the advantages of these two methods push teaching is more meaningful to achieve teaching purposes according to the plan.

Abstract

The phenomenon of synonyms in the Qur'an has become a common topic of discussion. In this study, we examine the synonymy of the lafadz sanah and 'am which both mean the year. The data used is a verse of the Qur'an which contains lafadz sanah and 'am. The aim is to find out the meaning of lafadz sanah and 'am in the Qur'an and the relationship between the meanings of lafadz sanah and 'am through semantic analysis. The research methodology used in this research is library research with a qualitative approach. As for the results of the study, it was found that lafadz sanah was used to indicate a bad year/woeful, sad, lousy, sick and tired. While in lafadz 'am it is used to indicate the conditions of a happy, fertile and prosperous year. Then lafadz sanah and 'am are also analyzed based on semantic meaning according to Abdul Chaer who divides the types of meaning into 12, namely lexical meaning, grammatical meaning, contextual meaning, referential and non-referential meaning, denotative meaning, connotative meaning, conceptual meaning, associative meaning, word meaning. , the meaning of terms, the meaning of idioms, and the meaning of proverbs. As for the lafadz sanah and 'am in the Qur'an, several similar meanings are found and there are also some differences based on the semantic meaning according to Abdul Chaer.

Abstract

تعتبر مادة تعليم اختبارات القدرة على اللغة العربية مادة واجبة للفصل في الوحدة لتنمية اللغة بجامعة الأستاذ كياهي الحاج سيف الدين زهري الإسلامية الحكومية ببورووكرتو. وهدفت هذه المادة إعداد الطلبة في مواجهة الاختبار لكفاءة العربية للأجانب. هدف هذا البحث معرفة تطوير مادة تعليم اختبار القدرة على اللغة العربية ومعرفة خصائص هذه المادة المطورة. نوع هذا البحث هو البحث التطويري لأنه طور المادة التعليمية في اختبارات القدرة على اللغة العربية الموجودة بإكمال النقائص واستيفاء الحوائج تجاه الطلبة. وبعد أن قام الباحثون بهذا البحث، حصلوا على النتائج: (1) إن تطوير المادة التعليمية في اختبار القدرة على اللغة العربية تم بتشحيص المشاكل والحوائج ثم تصميم الخريطة الذهنية ثم تطويرها وتقديمها إلى خبراء اللغة. (2) إن خصائص هذه المادة المطورة الباررة هي تطابق جميع العناصر الثلاثة من الموضوع والقواعد المحددة وإكثار التدريبات حتى عود الطلبة أنفسهم في مواجهة الاختبار لكفاءة العربية للأجانب.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of active learning strategy through the Semantic Map Strategy (SMS) in learning writing skills at the Arabic Language Center (PKPBA) Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and students' opinions on the use of it. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Sources of data in the form of learning curriculum, learning processes, and students. The research instruments are observation and interviews. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that: 1) application of active learning strategy through the Semantic Map Strategy (SMS) in learning writing skills was implemented in several stages, namely: (a) introducing the topic (b) brainstorming, (c) categorization, (d) feedback, and (e) arranging semantic maps. 2) all students feel happy and think that the application of active learning strategies through the SMS is very appropriate and effective in teaching writing. Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has been affecting the education field so much that the educational process is changing to web-based instruction such as e-learning. The aim of this research is to describe the application of an e-learning strategy for speaking skill in the Arabic Language Center (PKPBA) Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and the students' opinions about it. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Data sources are the process of teaching speaking skill in class 21 of the science and technology department and students. The data collection tools used are observation, interview and documentation. As for the method of data analysis, it is a method of analyzing qualitative data that consists of stages: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. This study indicated that an e-learning strategy for speaking skill in the Arabic Language Center at Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang was applied by means of WhatsApp, YouTube, and Google Meet. The strategy consisted of actions: 1) Before education: preparing a WhatsApp group, giving study materials in the form of pdf and educational video on a YouTube link; 2) When teaching: sharing a Google Meet link, explaining new vocabulary or phrases, reading the exemplary dialogue text and students imitate it, several students practice the dialogue, giving students a chance to submit questions; 3) After education: evaluation through the application of dialogue between students and conclusion. As for the students, they see that this strategy is attractive and suitable for its application in teaching speaking skill, and it is effective in improving their speaking skill and motivation when learning.

Abstract

ESP or English for Specific Purposes is distinctive in that it considers students' learning needs because ESP equips students with the necessary skills to compete in the workplace. In other words, based on the student's major, the teacher must tailor English instruction to be fit for employment. How the teachers preparing English lessons for vocational students have not been fully disclosed in prior study, despite some of the issues teachers confront when teaching English at vocational schools. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the teachers’ roles and also problems in planning the instructions for their students. In answering the released research questions, qualitative research using the interview method and also an open-ended questionnaire were conducted on 3 English teachers from 3 different SMKs with different majors. These three English teachers have a combined teaching experience of almost exactly ten years. Online interviews and questionnaires with questions about learning preparation based on the Dudley-Evans hypothesis were completed via phone and email. The results of the surveys and interviews were then examined by classifying the data according to theory. The study's findings reveal that these teachers encounter similar challenges when putting together course plans that are appropriate for their students' majors, selecting subject matter that is relevant to their line of work, and selecting learning resources that will enable them to help their students meet set learning objectives.
