Abstract

This thesis is entitled An Analysis Of Translation Shift Of Noun Phrase In The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Novel by Mark Twain’s. it has two objectives, namely (1) To Identify the types of noun phrase in terms of its constituent parts are used in The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Novel and (2) To Identify the types of translation shifts of noun phrase in The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Novel. Theory proposed by Catford (1965) about types of Translation Shift and it was combined with theory of Types of Noun Phrase by Quirk, Greenbaum, (1985: 245). The collected data were analyzed by reading the novel and classify the data base on the theory adopted. Based on final result show that the researcher finds 434 data of Noun Phrase found in the novel were Determinative + Head 266 data, Head + Pre-modification 99 data, and Head + Post-modification 69 data. The Types of Translation shift researcher finds 434 data that found in the novel were Translation Shift divided into two categories the first is Level shift its found 52 data and Category Shift is 382 data that divided into four categories the first is Unit Shift 35 data, Structure Shift 279 data, Class Shift 56 data and the last is Intra-system Shift 12 data.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Time management is essential, and it may affect an individual's overall performance and achievements. Research has shown that all the time management behaviors are positively related to academic achievement. This study aims to measure the level of time management possessed by PMPBI UNJ the year of 2019 students and find out the correlation between the level of time management and the success of achieving a Summa Cum Laude honorary degree. The primary data collection for this study is through an online questionnaire survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and the presentations were made in tables and figures to some extent. The result shows that 55% of the participants possess a moderate level time management score, while 45% of the participants possess high-level time management scores. No participants have a low-level time management score. Furthermore, the result also reveals that the level of time management (High or Moderate Level) correlates with the success of achieving a Summa Cum Laude honorary degree for students of the PMPBI UNJ class of 2019. Lastly, the results also show that Short-Range planning, and Time Attitudes, each variable correlates with the success of achieving a Summa Cum Laude honorary degree. However, the results show that Long-Range planning does not correlate with the success of achieving a Summa Cum Laude honorary degree. Keywords: time management level, short-range, time attitude, long-range, students’ achievement, Summa Cum Laude.

Abstract

This study entitled ”Simile and Metaphor in The Novel The Sky is Falling”. Figurative language is commonly found in a literary work, such as a novel. From several types of Figurative language, Simile and Metaphor are the commonly appear. This study aims to analyze simile and metaphor as the types of figurative language within The Sky is Falling novel. This research uses a desriptive qualitative method to describe the types found and the meaning contained in the sentences of the novel. This article uses theory from Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963) to explain the types of figurative language. In general, the results of this study found Simile with 8 data and Metaphor with 4 data. The dominant of the two types figurative language is Simile. This article aims to add insight in the public in order to understand to analyze the sentences of the novel and understand the meaning of novel.

Abstract

This study entitled “Figurative Languages Found in Frozen Movie Selected Song”. In general, figurative language is a type of language that departs from the language used traditionally and literally. This study aims to spot and describe the inner meaning of figurative language found within the Frozen Movie Original soundtrack. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to describe the types found and the meanings contained in the lyrics of the song Frozen. This article uses theory from Perrine (1969) to explain the types of figurative language, and theory from Leech (1981) which describes the meaning contained in song lyrics. From the research conducted, 11 data were used, and of the 11 types found, 4 types contained in the song lyrics can be identified, including Personification with 3 data, Apostrophe with 3 data, Overstatement with 3 data, and simile with 2 data. This article aims to provide lessons to the public in order to analyze the lyrics of the songs we listen to so that we understand what the songs mean.

Abstract

This study is entitled “The Study of Characterization of the Main Character in Brave movie”. This research is focused on the characterization approach based on the three dimensions of the main character and intrinsic components in the movie. The main purpose of the research is to determine how the author describes the main character in terms of physiological, psychological, and sociological dimensions. The data for this study was collected using the documentation technique, which was based on library research. The obtained data were then descriptively analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. This study uses theory from Kenney (1966) to explain category the main character and for theory of three dimension of characterization proposed by Egri (1985). The data source of this study is a movie entitled Brave (2012). Based on Kenney’s theory, the writer found that the main character in Brave movie as dynamic character. In addition, based on Egri’s theory, there are three dimensions (physiological, psychological, and sociological) involved in the shaping and presentation of the main character. The result after doing analyzing this study there was found 8 data of dimension of characterization, including Psychological with 5 data, Physiological with 2 data, and Sociological with 1 data

Abstract

To achieve the goals of communication, it is important for the participants in every conversation to obey the cooperative principle in order to avoid misunderstanding of interpretation between them. This research deals with the study of flouting maxim in a superhero movie entitled Avengers: Endgame movie. This research focuses on analysing the types of flouting maxim in Avengers: Endgame movie flouted the maxims. The researcher used the theory of cooperative principle proposed by Grice (1975) to analyse the types of flouting maxim. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to describe the data to answer the problems of the study. The result of the study shows that there are 20 data of flouting maxim in Avengers: Endgame movie. The highest occurrence of flouting maxim in this movie is flouting maxim of quantity and quality with 7 data (35%). Then followed by flouting maxim of relevance with 4 data (20%). Flouting maxim of manner is the lowest occurrence of flouting maxim with 2 data (10%).

Abstract

The concern of this study is the translation shift especially the noun phrase category shift. The aims is to identify and clasify the kinds of category shift Indonesian translation Romeo and Juliet novel by William Shakespeare. The data were taken from 2 novel which is the English version and the translation version or Indonesian that has same tittle, Romeo and Juliet. The data were collected using the observation method, which was realized by reading the novel, identifying the category shift, underlining the noun phrase of category shift, and finding the meaning of the words. The data were analyzed by applying the qualitative and descriptive methods. The main theory applied in this study is the theory of translation shift proposed by Catford (1965) and translation process proposed by Larson (1998) which was used to analyze the study aims. The results showed that all of the category shift that proposed by Catford is found in the translation novel. The structure shift occurred in the highest frequency, with consist of 45 or 45% out of the total 100 cases it is because of the different structure grammatical of the source language (English) and target language (Indonesian). And the second most occurrence is unit shift which consists of 25 cases or about 25%. The third is intra-system shift which consists of 20 or 20% and the lowest is class shift which consists of 10 cases or 10% out of the total 100 cases.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the kinds of figurative languages used in the chosen song lyrics of Linkin Park  and to examine the meanings of figurative languages in the song lyrics of Linkin Park. Several song lyrics from Linkin Park that were randomly taken are the data base of this analysis. In the analysis of data from this report, descriptive and qualitative methods were used. The theory of Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963: 367) studied the types of figurative languages and also the accepted theory of meaning proposed by Leech (1981: 16) will be analyzed in the selected song lyrics of Linkin Park to explain the meaning of figurative language. The researcher assumes, after the study has been finished, that the chosen song lyrics of Linkin Park consist of of 21 lyrics that used figurative language. The sentence has figurative language in Linkin Park song lyrics are 14% of simile, 9% of metaphor, 19% of personification, 48% of hyperbole, 5% of synecdoche, 5% of metonymy.
