Abstract

Human efforts to understand the existence of God have been proven by the emergence of various arguments about God. Philosophers and theologians have contributed their thoughts in an effort to explain God. However, it must be admitted honestly, that every argument presented still has weaknesses that directly have not been able to define God in a final way. The arguments that arise have not been able to explain God that can be universally accepted, this of course must be acknowledged because of the limitations of humans who try to explain God without limits. The arguments presented by experts are proof that God is still a big mystery that has not been revealed by humans. The existence of God is still a debate between existence and non-existence, although the evidence for its existence is undeniable.

Abstract

Human ethics and morality have experienced a decline. This decline can be seen from the rise of cases of crime and conflicts that occur in the social environment of the community. Therefore, humans need religion as an aspect that guides humans in behaving. All religions actually teach the truth, including Buddhism. The teachings in Buddhism are dominated by ethics, which are broadly contained in the Sutta Pitaka. In this study, there are three formulations of the problem, including: (1) What is the essence of Buddhism in the Sutta Pitaka? (2) How is the social ethics of Buddhism in the Sutta Pitaka? (3)What is the meaning of Buddhist philosophy in the Sutta Pitaka? This study use three theories namely, hermeneutic theory, ethical theory and value theory. This type of research is qualitative. Data were collected using observation, interview, documentation, and library research. Then presented using the techniques of presenting the results of data analysis informally. Based on the result of this study indicate that: (1) Buddhist teachings in the Sutta Pitaka can be broadly understood through the teachings of Tiratana, Dukkha, and Kamma, which in essence these teachings emphasize ethics. (2) When viewed from the aspect of social ethics, Buddhist ethics can be classified in to three parts namely, theological ethics, ethics of self-development, and ethics of virtue. (3) The philosophical meaning of Tiratana, Dukkha, Kamma, Sila, Meditation teachings, and The Noble Eightfold Path always function as a guide for humans to be free from suffering and reach the Nibbana.

Abstract

The word lying is known as a bad word, it should not be done, it is forbidden by religion, and it is a sin to commit an act of lying. This statement is true if lying is done with the aim of deceiving or fooling someone. However, it is different from the act of lying which is done to achieve happiness, and with a noble purpose, or when a difficult situation causes the lie to be done. So lying is justified. As in the concept of pañca nṛta or five types of lies that are justified in Hindu religious teachings. This study uses a philosophical hermeneutic method with the analysis pattern of Miles and Huberman. The results of this study are 1). Situation ethics from Joseph Fletcher explains that actions are said to be good if they are based on love, and in the right situation. Good deeds will become evil if done without love or not in the right situation, and vice versa. Bad deeds will become good when done with love and the right circumstances. 2). The concept of pañca nṛta is the five types of lies that are justified, these must be related to the right situation and based on love. 3). The concept of pañca nṛta, if it is done with a good purpose, it will produce something good, but if it is done with a bad purpose, it will receive karma or sin.

Abstract

Materialism is a philosophical understanding that is widespread and is known by many people in the world. Many world thinkers make materialism the main topic in their works. Karl Marx and Ramkrishna Battacharya are two figures of materialism who represent western philosophy and eastern philosophy, respectively. The purpose of this study is to compare and look at the similarities and differences in the materialism concepts of both Karl Marx and Cārvāka Ramkrishna Battacharya and see how relevant and implication the materialism concepts of Karl Marx and Cārvāka Ramkrishna Battacharya are. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with the analysis technique of the Miles and Huberman model where the data collection, data reduction, data display and verification processes are carried out where the data collection methods used are through documentation, library research, and online data searching. This study found a slight difference in the concept of materialism of Karl Marx with Cārvāka Ramkrishna Battacharya. The materialism concepts of Karl Marx and Cārvāka Ramkrishna Battacharya also have an influence through relevance which has implications for the lives of Indonesian people to this day. The concept of materialism from Karl Marx and Cārvāka Ramkrishna Battacharya ultimately has a significant impact, although there are differences in each of the concepts of materialism.

Abstract

Recently, there has been a lot of news circulating about social conflicts that carry the name of religion. The news is very easy to reach every individual through social media. Not infrequently religious problems that were initially considered small became big problems. This is due to the presence of irresponsible elements. These elements tried to ignite the fire through social media, so that they could generate emotions for religious people who felt they were on the wrong side. If social problems are not handled wisely, it will only add to the commotion. Where the activity of attacking each other will become so. The problems that will be discussed in this paper are: (1) About social conflicts in society that carry the name of a religion and (2) Possible solutions to minimize these conflicts are studied from the perspective of Hinduism. The result of this paper is of course a qualitative study, this paper is based on the results of observations made in the field regarding social conflicts and how to minimize these problems. In Hinduism such things can be done through dharma discourse and dharmatula activities. Through dharma discourse activities, Hindus will get spiritual guidance from religious leaders so that they get an enlightenment in dealing with conflicts between religious communities. In dharmatula activities, Hindus also have the opportunity to have direct discussions related to religious issues in society.

Abstract

Lately, it's easier to spread hate speech, the loss of humanity and human concern for the universe, this indicates the world is not fine and far from harmony. Seeing this phenomenon, it is interesting to examine the philosophical thoughts initiated by a philosopher Adi Śaṅkarācārya who is known as Advaita Vedānta. Advaita means no dualism. The Advaita Śaṅkarācārya system denies the existence of more than one reality. Brahman is the only reality that exists. Nature is an appearance or illusion of Brahman but reality is relative. While the individual/jiva/personal spirit is no different from Brahman but in reality it is also relative because it is caused by the fetters of avidya and manifests itself with the additional means of upadhi. This study tries to describe the basic concept of Advaita Vedānta in the vakya (speech) Upaniṣad in the present life. This becomes one of the ways to achieve divine awareness in realizing the Self by seeing everything is Brahman.

Abstract

Tattwa is the true teaching of the essence of Brahman (God) and everything related to God's omnipotence. God or Brahman is the origin of all that exists, Brahman is the primacosa whose existence is absolute. Because the source of all that exists, without Brahman it is impossible for everything to exist. Tattwa is the real and ultimate truth. This Tattwa as a philosophical concept is based on the goal to be achieved by that philosophy, namely the highest and essential truth. In the lontars in Bali, the word Tattwa is used more often when compared to the other three philosophical terms, education, holy places, yadnya ceremonies, customs and others, all of which are the basic concept or essence of which is Tattwa. Thus, tattwa is a philosophical term of religion which means the true and essential truth based on reflection that really requires brilliant thinking in order to arrive at the nature and nature of nature.

Abstract

The era of globalization has implications for life that prioritizes technological sophistication and is materialistic, secularistic, hedonistic, pragmatic, and transactional. The era of globalization provides a lifestyle that separates material life from religious teachings. This raises a problem where the sophistication created by humans is used to fulfill lust simply because it is not based on good behavior and morals. Globalization is one of the elements behind the emergence of the idea of character education as an answer in the midst of many conflict issues. Starting from the thought above, the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbaka as one of the values of Hindu local wisdom has a strategic space to develop character education in the community. This conception has a universal meaning that is based on love. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the existence of the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in the era of globalization through its actualization so that this concept is not merely a slogan. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection through observation, interviews, and literature study. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: the whole world is one family. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam suggests five things, namely truth, wisdom, love, peace, and ahimsa. Fajar Harapan Elementary School took the momentum of implementing character education by re-grounding the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The actualization of the Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam concept in the era of globalization at Fajar Harapan Elementary School by internalizing it to students by transforming values into school activities, so that this concept can be actualized in every school member. The pattern of praying together and taking turns according to their respective religions, Christmas programs and breaking the fast together, charity programs, and eating and chatting together during breaks are basically a form of actualization of this concept so that the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam still has an existence to this day.
