Abstract

Speaking has been the main problem for majority of Malaysian students as they are afraid to make mistakes.  In order for students to be understood while speaking in English, they need to be able to pronounce English words clearly. To solve this problem, a game ‘Magic Bottle’ was developed in this study. This research was conducted on a group of 27 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Universiti, Skudai, Johor Bahru.  It was triangulated through analysis of PBD Assessment Reports, a set of pre-test and post-test, participant observation and interview.  Early observation shows that none of the students passed their PBD Speaking Skills Assessment. Only 2 out of 27 students (7%) scored Band 2 in their PBD Assessment (Pelaporan Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah) for Speaking Skills. The rest, 25 out of 27 students (93%) only scored Band 1 in their Speaking Assessment.  All the students failed in the first PBD Speaking Skills Assessment.  In this study, students were taught about pronunciation using 'Magic Bottle'. In the game, students were exposed to the correct pronunciation of the difficult words. They were asked to read and role play the sentences in the game.  The research showed that students had improved their pronunciation through ‘Magic Bottle’.   The T-Test conducted at the end of the test shows that there was a significant improvement between the students’ post-test and pre-test results.  Students had also shown improvement in their PBD Speaking Skills.

Abstract

Okra or commonly known in its Latin as abelmoschus esculentus are one of the green vegetables that is most consumed around the world and is utilized as medicine. Due to post-harvest losses, inadequate storage facilities lead to customers losing fresh okra. Therefore, farmers use traditional drying preservation methods by utilizing solar heat. The research objectives is to identify and evaluate the antinutrient, mineral, and proximate compositions of fresh and dried okra obtained from Gusau Market in Nigeria. Researchers analyzed and compared the samples using standard analytical methods and statistical packages from IBM SPSS version 21. The analysis revealed that the fresh and dried okra samples had the following amounts of water, ash, protein, fiber, carbs, lipids, and total energy: 75.30-8.56%; 1.85-8.05%; 16.44-77.25%; 4.30-2.03%; 0.18-3.15%; 1.93-0.96%; and 56.11-325.76%. While concentrations of mineral elements of fresh and dried okra are 98.22-97.80; 5.45-4.45; 9.75-9.35; 78.52-69.35; 21.36-19.26; and 30.52-29.60 in mg/100g respectively. The phytochemical screening shows the presence of Tannin, Oxalate, Phytate, Saponin, Phenolic, Flavonoid and Alkaloid. For sampling of fresh and dried okra, the amounts of flavonoid and alkaloid in mg/100g are 18.6-17.95 and 10.64-15.14, respectively. There is no significance different in proximate, mineral elements and anti nutritional content between fresh and dried okra samples. Therefore, the researchers can decide that the traditional way by utilizing solar heat is still being utilised by most of farmers. The appropriate method for farmers to prevent lossing okra when post-harvest is having conducive environment for them in order to avoid possible contamination.

Abstract

In general, landslides occur when the upward slope is higher than the retaining force which is caused by high rainfall intensity, land slope, load and impermeable layer, soil solum thickness, and soil type. The restraining force is generally controlled by the resistance of soil shear, the density and strength of plant roots and the strength of rocks. This disaster also often occurs in Indonesia, which has many mountains that stretch across the country. This research aims to determine landslide-prone areas, landslide types, dominant factors that cause landslides and landslide mitigation in anticipation of the impact of non-structural climate change. The research included 3 stages, such as pre-field, field, and post-field which are interrelated and complementary. The research location is around landslide-prone lands along the southwest slope of Mount Lawu in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. Based on the results of the research analysis, it indicates that the southwest slope of Mount Lawu, especially in Karanganyar, is highly prone to landslides. Therefore, it is not suitable to be used as agricultural and residential land because of its area of about 6,797.06 ha, and is categorized into three crucial parts, such as areas that are still highly prone to landslides of about 5,005.35 ha (73.64%); landslide-prone area of 1,784.23 ha (26.25%); and slightly landslide-prone area of 7.48 ha (0.11%).

Abstract

Coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) is a disease that causes hyper-systemic inflammation affecting the respiratory system and extrapulmonary system. Covid-19 causes non-specific clinical health disorders in immunocompromised patients who often do not react to treatment. One case of a 58-year-old Indonesian man with a positive GeneXpert test result for Covid-19 but did not react to routine Covid-19 first-line therapy. The patient's anti-HIV test was confirmed positive, with an absolute CD4 of 13.7 cells/L, lactate dehydrogenase of 385 U/L, and procalcitonin of 0.24 ng/mL. The patient was treated with antibiotics, remdesivir, dexamethasone, heparin, anti-HIV treatment, and other supporting medications. The PCR test was negative ten days later, the laboratory and radiology results had also stabilized. In this case, the possibility of co-detection of Covid-19 with immune system diseases such as HIV is emphasized, and the importance of further testing for suspected patients to provide accurate treatment. It is quite difficult to determine HIV risk factors, and the limited treatment options for Covid-19 and it may not be effective. This case highlighted the possibility of misdiagnosis, especially during an infectious disease pandemic, and the importance of extended testing, even if the immunological state is disregarded in immune-compromised patients.
