Abstract

This research has to find out (1).How is the teachers’ implementation authentic assessment in English Lesson? (2).What are the problems faced by English teachers in implementation authentic assessment in English lesson?. This research applied descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques that used are observation and interview. The result of this research are English teacher in  SMKN 4 Bulukumba have implemented authentic assessment. Authentic assessment types that have been applied include oral interview, project/exhibition, and portfolio.  The implementing of authentic assessment types shows that the teacher is creative in conducting the assessment.In implementing authentic assessment, English teacher in SMKN 4 Bulukumba have problem such as: (1) limited time, (2) difficult applying authentic assessment to certain competence, and  (3) time management.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the problems faced by the students in the sixth semester of English Education Department at Unismh Makassar to speak English fluently in the class and the factors causing the problems. This study used descriptive qualitative method in type of phenomenology in which the researcher used observation checklist and semi-structure interview to collect the data. The results showed that there are two main problems faced by the students to speak English fluently, namely linguistic problems which consist of: poor in grammar, lack of vocabulary and lack of pronunciation and also non-linguistic problems which consist of: blankness, shyness and anxiety. The factors causing students are poor in grammar manly caused by: seldom to learn grammar by themselves and were seldom to learn grammar in the previous semesters. Lack of vocabulary is caused by the students are not motivated to improve vocabulary by themselves. Lack of pronunciatiaon are caused by: the interference of mother tongue, lack of practice by themselves and pronunciation classes lacked of practice. In addition, blankness are mainly caused by: forget what to say, interruption and eye contact. Furthermore, shynes is caused by the students are afraid of making mistakes. Lastly, anxiety is caused by the students are afraid of being laughed or judged and commentated by the lectures if making mistakes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the pronunciation of students majoring in tourism when making English presentations and what factors influenced their presentations. This research is descriptive quantitative. The subjects of this study were students of class XI UPW 1 SMK 1 Gowa with a total of 29 students. The research instrument used was using questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that students' English pronunciation was still not good enough and it was influenced by internal and external factors experienced by students when they made presentations. There are several internal factors that greatly affect the quality of students’ presentation. These include: students’ motivation in learning English, students’ interesting, students’ mood, nervous, unconfident, and memory ability. In addition, external factors that have the potential to be experienced by students during presentations include the students’ social environment, the class condition, inadequate media, poor learning methods, incomplete facilities, lack of practice.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the challenges faced by teachers in implementing vocabulary games in the tenth grade at SMAN 7 Selayar. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method conducted with an English teacher at SMAN 7 Selayar to find out the challenges faced by teachers in implementing vocabulary games in classroom learning. This study uses checklist observations and interviews as instruments in data collection.The results of this research indicate that there are two factors that become a challenge for teachers in learning English in vocabulary games applied at SMAN 7 Selayar, namely internal and external factors, in which internal factors come from the teacher himself while external factors come from students. The teacher's internal challenges are the limited vocabulary of students and lazy students, while the external challenges of teachers are creative learning/teachers, and also limited learning time when using games.

Abstract

The results of the research from questionnaires and FGD showed that there were seven difficulties faced by students when studying listening comprehension based on listening material factors. First, the difficulty of unfamilliar words. 50% of students have this difficulty because they lack vocabulary. second, the difficulty of unfamiliar topics. students find it difficult when trying to understand the discourse, 40% experienced by students. third, difficulties in interpreting the meaning of spoken texts, especially when dealing with words that have multiple meanings, were also experienced by 40% of students in this study. fourth, difficulty due to the length of the spoken text which causes loss of concentration and motivation of students due to boredom, 60% of students find it difficult with the length of the spoken text. fifth, the difficulty in the type of input (eg the type of input from direct teaching by the lecturer) the fact that the listening comprehension class faced by the respondents was an online class, which made students experience various problems such as disruption of the teaching and learning process. the process of receiving information from lecturers due to unstable networks in some areas. sixth, 60% of students face difficulties in verbal instruction, because lecturers or native speakers have different accents and the last is difficulty in understanding when the speaker speaks very fast, based on the findings of this study it was found that the speaker's speaking speed is a difficulty experienced by all students.

Abstract

The researcher aims to determine the effectiveness of using flashcards in improving students' English vocabulary by conducting pre-experimental research and making 7th grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Galesong Utara as the research location and taking samples with a total population of 214 7th grade students while the sample used was 25 students. The process of data collection using pre-test and post-test used multiple choice by analyzing data using SPSS. The results of this study found that the use of flashcard media in the learning process to improve students' English vocabulary that considered effective based on the data obtained where the mean score in the pre-test 44,28 and the post-test 71,60. It can be seen that the mean score of the post-test is higher than the mean score of the pre-test. And it is proven again from the results of the analysis of the "paired sample test" using SPSS with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05. Based on the decision making is if the significance value is < 0.05, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that flashcard media is effective in improving students' English vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether online based-learning (e-learning) affects students' covert behavior in English lessons at SMAN 1 Barru and explain the impact of online based-learning (e-learning) on students' covert behavior in English lessons at SMAN 1 Barru.  The population of this study was students of SMAN 1 BARRU.   This research is a descriptive study. The disguised behavior of social studies students of class XI SMA N 1 Barru falls into the category of less tingi with a percentage52,14% Judging from the results of the hypothesis test (t-test) obtained a calculation of 1.363 < ttabel 1.692 and a significant value of the implementation of e-Learning 0.182 > 0.05. The R value of 0.231 or 23.1% which means that the influence of the implementation of online-based learning (e-Learning) on student behavior covert is 23.1% while 76.9% is influenced by other variables that are not studied. With this, the implementation of online-based learning (e-learning) has no significant effect on the formation of covert behavior of students at SMAN 1 Barru.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the problems of pronouncing diphthongs and to reveal the factors causing the problems of pronouncing diphthongs at the First Year Students of English Department Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. The researcher used Descriptive qualitative research in this researh. The researcher used document analysis and inteview as intruments in data collection. The researcher took 10 students from the second semester of English Department as sample in this research.The findings of this research showed that there were two problems faced by the students of pronouncing diphthongs, including the students monophthongized the diphthong sounds to pure vowel sounds and substituted one diphthong sounds with other diphthong sounds. Meanwhile, the factors that cause the students problems of pronouncing diphthong sounds are the influence of mother tongue, lack of knowledge in diphthong materials, lack of practice, difficult to memorize diphthong sounds, fossilization, and lack of motivation.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of blended learning model effective in improving students writing competence at ten grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala Makassar.This study applied a pre-experimental design using a quantitative approach. The population of this study was the tenth grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala Makassar which consisted of 128 students. Then, the sample from this study, namely class X TSM was taken using a purposive sampling technique which consisted of 30 students.The findings of this study indicated that class X TSM at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Bontoala Makassar has a sufficient score in the pre-test. After treatment, students' writing competence in writing recount text in terms of grammar and mechanics increased significantly. It was proved by the t-test value in terms of grammar is 17.385, it is higher than 2.045. And also, it was proved by the t-test value in terms of mechanics 31.007, it is higher than the t-table value 2.045. This indicated that H1 (alternative hypothesis) was accepted and H0 (null hypothesis) was rejected. It means that there was a significant difference of the students' writing competence before and after using the blended learning model.
