Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe the teacher's strategy in using animated videos in learning English.  The subject of this study involved an English teacher at SMPN 1 Tabongo. This research employed descriptive qualitative research method. Participants were taken using purposive sampling technique. Data was collected from observation sheets, semi-structured interviews, and documentation.  The data were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the use of animation video as media in English learning is able to support two-way learning process between teacher and students.  The teacher's strategy of using English animation videos can help students understand the material.  In addition, through the use of English Animation videos, it can stimulate the creativity, interest, and motivation of the teacher, and also through the use of English Animation videos, students' knowledge, preparation of teaching materials, selection of materials, teacher’s delivery methods have shown good development.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to determine creativity of teachers in applying English learning method. This research was carried out on 2 English teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Botumoito. A descriptive qualitative type was employed in this research with data collection techniques using semi-structured interviews. The results reveal that 2 English teachers who teach class 1 and class 2 at SMPN 1 Botumoito use various learning methods, those are: 1) discovery learning, 2) scientific learning, 3) question and answer/discussion, 4) project based learning, 5) roleplay, 6) demonstration, 7) and recitation method. From the implementation of all methods, teachers modify the stages according to learning materials, learning objectives and students’ needs. The combination of the above methods affects skills and enthusiasm of the students in responding to learning. Then, at evaluation stage the teachers apply various way including giving assignments to the students to see how active they are in asking and answering during the learning process.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to determine the relationship between the students' linguistic intelligence and their success in English learning. The researchers engaged with a quantitative analysis employing a correlational method. This study's population comprised of all 218 students enrolled in SMK Negeri 1 Banggai. 69 eighth-grade students were employed as the sample for this study. In this investigation, the questionnaire and the documentation served as the instruments. Principal data analysis techniques were linear and simple regression analysis. According to the research findings, there was a strong correlation between the linguistic intelligence of eighth-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Banggai and their success in English academic performance. The correlation formula calculation result (0.611) indicates that there is a significant relationship between these two variables. This indicates that variable x (linguistic intelligence) is positively linked with variable y (English academic performance).

Abstract

There are four interrelated aspects in teaching learning process that is teacher, students, materials, and evaluation and assessment. The things that should be paid attention related to materials are materials selection, materials development and design, and materials evaluation or textbook evaluation. Regarding to textbook evaluation, this article aims to investigate teachers’ perspectives on textbook of curriculum 2013 or K 13 for the second grade. Eighteen teachers both from public and private vocational high schools in Gorontalo city were asked to assign their opinions about the textbook of K 13 using checklist method adapted from Al Harbi. The five categories of Al Harbi in questionnaire are: layout and design, the objectives of the textbook, teaching methods and activities, language skills, and evaluation. The data from checklist were entered into excel program to find out the percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Afterward, the findings of excel analyzed descriptively. The study’s result revealed that the averages mean score of layout and design was 4.01, the objectives of the textbook was 4.18, teaching methods and activities was 3.84, language skills was 3.99, and evaluation was 3.89. Therefore, from the perspectives of English teachers, they agree that the English textbook for the second grade of vocational high school is appropriate to be used.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the improvement of students' English learning achievement through the outdoor learning method. The research was conducted on 16 students of class X, SMAN 1 Bone. This research applied classroom action research in which the data collection techniques were carried out using tests and student observation sheets. The results indicated that the use of learning outdoor method has increased the students' English achievement. This can be seen from the analysis result of prior observation data at the pre-action stage where students who completed the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) were 55.1%. Then cycle I was administered where students who achieved the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) were 56.25%, and cycle II of students who achieved the minimum completeness criteria (KKM) has increased to 87.5%.
