Abstract

YouTube as has become undeniable learning sources for students and teachers. It provides them with abundant videos that can support online and offline learning process. Besides exposing to audio visual media, YouTube enable students to display their speaking videos and get respond from teachers and friends. The respond can be in the form of giving a thumb or positive comment to their speaking performance. This can boost students motivation and confident in creating videos and encourage them to practice speaking. Therefore, this study proposes the idea of utilizing Classroom YouTube channel to encourage students’ speaking practice by allowing them to upload their videos, watching their friends’ speaking performance, collaborate, and learn to have online interaction and appreciation to their friends’ speaking performance. Further, it shows the steps of activating classroom YouTube channel to be an interactive learning platform and the procedures in an online classroom based on its theoretical perspectives

Abstract

Listening and speaking are fundamental communication skills. Language learners who study a foreign language need to learn these skills seriously to communicate well. Unfortunately, learning those skills is difficult for them. As podcasts have many benefits for the students, those resources help students to learn the language. The paper discussed how podcasts are helpful for foreign language learners to improve their listening and speaking skills. This literature review indicated several previous studies recommending using podcasts as learning support in improving listening and speaking skills. Abstract

This article focuses on the use of short stories in the process of learning English for grade 6 students at Al Fath School Indonesia, especially in imrpoving reading and writing skill. Every year, Al Fath students take special training in writing short stories. They study plot structure diagrams and compare them with the short stories they read, then they write their own short stories. The results of the short stories that the children wrote were then analyzed and collected into an anthology book with ISBN. This article is expected to provide an overview and example for schools to encourage students' creativity in reading and writing activities

Abstract

This paper aims to find out the whether introvert students and extrovert students had significant different result in speaking skill, to find out whether the use of memory strategies and social strategies gave significant different result in speaking skill, to investigate whether there was a significant interaction between learning style differences and the use of learning strategies in speaking skill at second semester of computerized program of LP3I Polytechnic Bekasi.. Forty-four students (40) were randomly chosen to get the data of whose styles were extreme introvert and extreme extrovert. Inferential analysis was done by using a two-way ANOVA for hypotheses testing. The research findings showed that there was significant different effect of speaking test between extroverts and introvert. Extroverts performed better in speaking skill. The other finding was that there was not a significant different between using social strategies and memory strategies. As a result of insignificant of using learning strategies in improving speaking skill, it was also found that there was not a significant interaction between language learning style and language learning strategies toward students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

The method of the research that is used by the writer is a qualitative approach in classroom action research method by researcher participant. The classroom action research is a method of finding out what works best in your own classroom so that you can improve students’ learning. The subject of the research is all of the students at SMK XYZ. This research uses one class. The researcher chooses the first class and concept of 20 students. The researcher teached English by Self-talk strategy to improve their speaking skill and the online learning research. In every cycle the researcher made lesson plans, actions, observations and reflecting to know how far the learning process can improve students’ speaking skill. From the researcher's result. The learning target of students in cycle one is 51%, then in cycle two the learning target increased to 69%. In the last cycle the learning target increased again, becoming 76%. Based on the result above, that self-talk strategy can improve the students’ speaking skill. It’s known from the learning target in each cycle that continuously increases. So, the researcher concludes that self-talk strategy can improve the students’ speaking in the teaching learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to improve speaking skills through the video playing method in class students at SMK Technology National Bekasi. The research subjects were 32 students in 12th grade of SMK Technology Bekasi. Data collection methods used are observation and testing. This research uses library research that comes from books and journals. Before collecting data, researchers made an initial examination of 12th graders. Researchers pick students at random one at a time during the study to be asked what they think of the English language. Interview questions are everyday sentence questions that ask about their ability to speak, their difficulty in speaking, and their personal interest in learning English from the media such as videos. The researcher also adopted the method of video-based learning for the treatment. In view of speaking skill, students had to have enough vocabulary in order to produce utterances. Focusing on fluency meant that the students were directed to focus on the flow of utterances freely and smoothly. In conclusion, the majority of them got impressed with contextual; video and started to produce utterances and language expressions. Initially, the majority of them tended to be reluctant and struggled hard to say the words and to produce utterances. However, The implementation of contextual video techniques minimize their hesitation when speaking as a result of vocabulary building and fluency drilling with the material in the contextual video.

Abstract

One of the most important thing for human life is education. It can develop human resource through teaching and learning activities. Higher education is an education level that is expected by many people. Those students do not only develop their intellectual, but they also need to have a mature social responsibility that they should always adjust to be advanced in various fields and is able to adapt to the society. It is a testament to the success of students which they need to achieve at the end of the learning process. The purposes of this study are: (1) Describing the effects of perception on part time work and learning activities toward the academi  achievement of colleg students of STIT Nusantara Bekasi and STKIP Albana Bekasi (2) Describing the effects of perception on part Time work toward the academic achievement of college students of STIT Nusantara Bekasi and STKIP Albana Bekasi. (3) Describing the effect of learning activities toward academic achievement majoring of college students of STIT Nusantara Bekasi and STKIP Albana Bekasi. To achieve the above purposes, the researcher uses quantitative research approach with descriptive research design. The instruments used are in the form of questionnaires. The test instrument is using validity and reliability. While the method of data analysis, the researcher uses multiple linear regression, with the number of respondents 65 students. The results of showed that: (1). There are any significant effects of perception on part time work and learning activities simultaneously toward the students’ academic achievement at private colleges in Bekasi City, it is proved by Sig value = 0,001 < 0,05 and F observed = 7.434 (2) There is a significant effect of perception on part time work towards the students’ academic achievement at private colleges in Bekasi city, it is proved by Sig value of 0,017 < 0,05 and the value of t observed = 2, 462 (3) There is a significant effect of learning activities towards the students’ academic achievement at private colleges in Bekasi city, by Sig value of 0,006 < 0,05 and t observed = 2,876

Abstract

Genre Based Approach (GBA) had been implemented for a decade in English Curriculumof Indonesia. It was expected that this approach could develop four  language skills simultaneously through its four stages of teaching and learning cycles, namely Building Knowlege of Field (BKOF), Modelling of Text (MOT), Join Construction of Text (JCOT) and Independent Construction of Text (ICOT). This study aims to review the implementation of GBA in Vocatioanal High School (VHS) and its impact to the learning process. It applied a library research to analyze two thesis and six research journals on the implementation GBA in VHS that focus mostly in writing skills. The results show that teachers  have applied GBA using the correct stages though there are some weaknesses within the process. Teachers and students give positive response toward the implementation of GBA that can be seen through their  enthusiam during  the teaching  and learning process. Finally, this study also revealed that GBA can improve students learning results that is proven from the students’writing scores that increase after the implementation of GBA.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out what kind of English grammatical collocation used in Imperatives in Product User Guide. The research applied a qualitative descriptive method, the data from which were collected, analyzed and concluded without drawing a general conclusion. The data of this study are grammatical collocations in imperatives found in KRISBOW Impact Drill 500W User Guide. The analysis of the 69 collected data shows there are as many as 1 type GB data (1.4%), 2 GD type data (2.9%), 12 type Gd data (17.4%), 1 type GE data (1.4%), 2 type GH data (2.9%), 1 type GI data (1.4%), 8 type GL data (11.6%), 8 type GN data (11.6%), 29 type GP data (42.02%), 3 type GQ data (4.3%), 2 type Gs data (2.9%). In conclusion, type GP (Verb + (O) + Adverbial) is the most frequently used grammatical collocation in the form of imperatives in the User Guide.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to investigate evaluatively the implementation of grouping-based English Language Teaching by Politeknik LP3I Jakarta, Pasar Minggu Campus. The study was held qualitatively with the participants of students and English lecturers at the Campus. The data were gained by observations, focus group discussion, and document analysis on the framework of CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product). The data were analyzed through data collection, data display, data reduction, and the conclusion. The results reveal that the grouping is applicable although some challenges arise, particularly in teaching lower-level groups. The lower the level the more the efforts the lecturers need to adjust. This direct to conclude that the roles of lecturers in this grouping-based English language teaching are profound.
