Abstract

This paper discusses the case of PT Bintang Permata Sejati, a garment manufacturing company that faced multiple labor accidents at the buttonhole stations over a five-month period. The absence of occupational health and safety management practices within the company made it challenging to address these incidents, resulting in the temporary suspension of the production process and significant expenses for the corporation. To resolve this issue, the company employed the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) design, which involves analyzing and solving problems in three stages. By implementing solutions such as using iron gloves, duct tape insulation, cable ties, taking advantage of relaxation breaks, and changing chairs, the company successfully identified and addressed 17 problems related to people, materials, methods, machines, and the environment, of which 8 were low-risk, 3 were medium-risk, and 6 were high-risk. The cost of implementing these measures was significantly less than the profits earned by the company, highlighting the importance of maintaining an up-to-date HIRARC design and conducting research on its effectiveness. This case underscores the significance of occupational health and safety practices in reducing accidents and promoting employee welfare in manufacturing companies.

Abstract

Metro Musik is a well-known music equipment store in Malang City that also provides music education services. This service quality research was conducted because Metro Musik assessed that the decline in business was not only caused by the pandemic but also by customer dissatisfaction with the services provided by Metro Musik, based on criticism from buyers about the quality of service at Metro Musik Malang. This study aims to identify service quality using the Servqual method, prioritize service quality improvements using the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method, propose improvements using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method to improve service quality, and measure service quality at Metro Musik Malang after improvement efforts have been implemented. Based on the GAP 5 calculation, it was found that none of the attributes met customer expectations, or the quality of service at Metro Musik Malang was considered inadequate. Then, based on the IPA analysis, four attributes were prioritized, namely attributes number 2, 8, 10, and 11. Five improvements were proposed for the four prioritized attributes, including training employees to be more responsive in serving customers, creating reminders with detailed schedules, displaying realistic product photos, explaining corresponding product specifications, planning to add 1 to 2 employees, and renovating the store. However, only three out of the five proposals were implemented. The results of the implementation provided a 35% increase in customer satisfaction with the quality of service at Metro Musik Malang. Attributes number 2, 8, and 10 experienced an increase in customer satisfaction, but attribute number 11 experienced a decrease.

Abstract

Efficiency and quality are two crucial factors in the manufacturing industry in Indonesia. PT. SASL and Sons Indonesia is a manufacturing company in the coconut processing industry, with various stages of production separated into different rooms. However, the production room layout was found to be inefficient due to the distance and size between the rooms, which affected the flow of material movement. To address this issue, the Computerized Relationship Layout Method (CORELAP) was used to redesign the layout of each production room and improve the flow of material movement. Factors considered in the redesign included the sequence of production processes, the distance of material movement, and the dimensions of the machine and material handling equipment. The new layout resulted in a material movement distance of 53.963 meters, a reduction of 86.7% from the initial layout's distance of 406.75 meters. This study demonstrates the importance of optimizing production room layout for improved efficiency and material movement, which can ultimately lead to better quality products and customer satisfaction.

Abstract

This study focuses on the importance of high productivity in companies' production processes and its impact on profits. The study uses the Omax method to measure productivity in a company's production process. The Omax method is based on four variables: the amount of meat used, the amount of beans used, the amount of electricity used, and the amount of labor used. The study found that higher productivity leads to higher profits, and companies can use the Omax method to measure their productivity level and improve their production processes. The study's results show that the average Productivity Index (PI) for 24 observation periods is 3.151667, with the lowest PI value being 1 and the highest being 5.79. Companies can follow the proposed calculation procedure to determine the productivity level of their production unit using the Omax method. Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of measuring productivity and using appropriate methods to improve production processes to achieve higher profits.

Abstract

This study examines the delayed development of the Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport Accessibility project due to the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in the construction of the main bridge. To address the delay, work optimization was carried out using the Critical Path Method (CPM) and project crashing method. Two optimization alternatives were identified: increasing working hours (overtime) and shift work. The research results show that both alternatives can perform crashing in 118 weeks, but there is a difference in direct cost. By using the alternative of increasing working hours, there is an additional cost of Rp 1,455,346,223.78, while by using the shift work alternative, the additional cost is Rp 1,562,626,223.78. The value of indirect cost is the same because the crashing duration is the same, and the direct cost increases because the crashing calculation is based on time and workers on the ground. Therefore, optimizing the main bridge construction work by increasing working hours is the alternative that suits the owner's request because the cost and duration calculations are in line with the owner's request. The findings of this study can help other construction projects facing similar challenges caused by the pandemic to determine the most appropriate optimization alternative. Keywords

Abstract

PT. X is a flavored beverage company facing the challenge of controlling the quality of its products due to the lack of a proper control system. The company experienced a high percentage of defective products in recent months, with a defect rate of 0.419% from September 2019 to December 2020. To address this issue, a quality control system was designed, utilizing a business process chart with a statistical process control (SPC) approach. The system involved the use of a checksheet for data collection and a control chart to regulate the average and variation of volume, pH, brix, and defective products. Pareto analysis was performed to identify potential causes of defective products, and efforts were made to address issues related to dented cups and leaky lids. Improvements made to the system proved successful in lowering the defect rate. The proposed quality control system was presented in the form of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and the processes of volume, pH, and brix are now under control.
