Abstract

Introduction: Hospital atmosphere and managerial support during the COVID-19 pandemic are important factors in determining the quality of nursing care, however, support that is not provided properly can cause work stress, causing burnout syndrome which results in low quality of work. The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between managerial support and hospital atmosphere with burnout syndrome of nurses at COVID-19 unit. Methods: The research design was correlational descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 64 nurses at COVID-19 unit at the referral hospital for COVID-19 patients in Surabaya who handle COVID-19 patients directly for at least 2 months and treat COVID-19 patients at least 1-2 patients every day in the isolation room were selected through a simple random sampling method. The variables in this study were managerial support, hospital atmosphere, and burnout syndrome. Perceived managerial support was measured by the Managerial Support Questionnaire, the Hospital Atmosphere Questionnaire for perceived hospital atmosphere, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory to measure burnout syndrome. The results were analyzed by descriptive analysis and logistic regression test with a significance value of p≤ 0.05. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between managerial support (p = 0.027) and hospital atmosphere (p = 0.026) with burnout syndrome. The relationship between managerial support and hospital atmosphere is negative. The higher the managerial support and hospital atmosphere, the lower the burnout syndrome level. Conclusion: High managerial support and a good hospital atmosphere can reduce burnout syndrome among nurses at COVID-19 unit. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for hospitals in preventing nurse burnout syndrome so that the quality of service increases.

Abstract

Introduction: The gap between theory and practice in clinical education settings is still common. Reflective practice in students of a profession program emphasizes the theoretical knowledge that has been acquired and the clinical experience. The purpose of this research was to explore the experience of reflective practice among the students of the Nursing Profession Program. Methods: A qualitative study design was undertaken. Focus group discussions were conducted with 16 participants divided into two groups using Zoom virtual meeting application. Instrument used semi-structured interview guidelines and data analysis used thematic analysis. Results: This research resulted in four themes, namely the gap between theory and practice; the benefits of reflective learning; experiences and expectations; and some barriers and challenges to reflective practice. Conclusion: Based on the existing results, it can be concluded that, although there are still some barriers in its implementation, the implication of this study can facilitate students of profession programs in overcoming the gaps between theories and practical experience during professional education.

Abstract

Introduction: The knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) in response to Covid-19 have not been measured previously in nursing institutions, which could be crucial to preventing a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This study examined the KAP for Covid-19 among Indonesian nursing students during the rapid increase period. Methods: An online-based cross-sectional design recruited nursing students using the authors’ networks with lecturers and nursing institutions in Indonesia. After obtaining their consent, the participants completed an online survey to assess their socio-demographic details, habits, family history of chronic diseases, and KAP in response to Covid-19. Simple descriptive through to complex analyses and multivariate regression were carried out using SPSS 17. Results: There were a total of 492 participants; 84.4% were female, most had a Bachelor’s degree (71.3%) and the mean age was 23.9 years old. The majority had never smoked (94.3%), drank warm water everyday (61.6%), exercised (50.6%), did not have hypertension (96.3%), had no family history of select conditions (79.9%) and had not been diagnosed with diabetes (99.4%). The majority of participants (79.3%) had good knowledge, where the mean for attitude was 2.05 (SD=0.30) and the result for practices was 2.19 (SD=0.42). Multiple linear regression showed that males who were older were associated with a higher level of knowledge. Conclusion: Our results found that the nursing students had good KAP scores regarding Covid-19. The development of effective health education programs to uphold their optimistic attitude and to maintain their good practices is needed.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is currently one of the world's nutritional problems suffered by toddlers. This study aimed to determine the factors and incidence of stunting among children aged 12-60 months old in Indonesia. Methods: The design was a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted in the South Central Timor Regency from February to August 2020. The respondents of this study were as many as 286 mothers and children. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The questionnaire was used to identify demographic factors, infectious diseases, maternal care practice factors and stunting was identified by using the anthropometric measurement by WHO age-based height index (Z score <-2 SD). Chi-square and logistic regression were used to determine the factors associated with the incidence and the dominant factors of stunting. Results: The results showed a significant relationship between the number of children with  p= 0.000; mother's knowledge with  p= 0.000; and practice of complementary feeding with the incidence of stunting with  p=0.000, while the main factor causing the incidence of stunting in toddlers is the number of children, which is more than two people in the family (p= 0.000, Exp (B) = 0.137). Conclusion: The number of children is the primary factor causing stunting in South Central Timor. Therefore, health workers should increase health promotion and education about stunting and raise family awareness in running family planning programs to meet children's needs, including nutrition and control of childbirth.

Abstract

Introduction: Dense block system and online learning during the covid-19 pandemic has led to complaints of boredom, tiredness and fatigue causing academic fatigue syndrome (academic burnout). Unresolved academic burnout will lead to a decline in academic achievement and decrease of interest in education. This also affects the performance of educational institutions. Therefore, it is necessary to take action to address academic burnout in students.  This research aims to determine the effect of academic self-efficacy training on academic burnout experienced by nursing students. Methods: The method used was quantitativequasy-experimental with Pre-test Post-test Design with control group. The research was conducted at two nursing education institutions in Indonseia during July-August 2020. A total of 90 research respondents were selected with simple random sampling technique.  The instrument used in this study was the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS).  Research data was then analyzed using paired t test and Independet test. Results: Paired t test in the treatment group obtained p value = 0.000. This means that there is a difference in academic burnout before and after intervention in this group, while the test results in the control group obtained p value = 0.170 meaning that there is no difference before and after intervention. Independent t test result showed the value of p = 0.000, indicating differences in academic fatigue in these two groups. Conclusion: Academic efficacy training is effective in reducing academic burnout in nursing students who participated in lectures with the block system.

Abstract

Introduction: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has a significant impact on health services and a major psychological challenge for nurses. The aimed of this review was to explore anxiety and coping mechanisms of nurses who provide care to COVID-19 patients.   Methods: Search strategies were developed for the Scopus, CINAHL, Lancet, Sage and ProQuest database. The data sources were limited to articles published from 2019-2020. MeSH terms were combined with Boolean operators and used to search the databases. The study quality of each article was determined based on the quality analysis of the JBI guidelines and the study evaluation used PRISMA checklist. Review process; the titles and abstracts of the identified articles, general and specific characteristics from eligible articles were extracted and the quality of included trials were appraised by using a risk of bias assessment tool. Results: The 25 articles provided data on 145 subjects that were randomly allocated to anxiety and coping. The results of this study are six studies (24%) showing the clinical manifestations of nurse anxiety, ten studies (40%) nurse coping mechanism, and nine studies (36%) causes of nurse anxiety. The results of the assessment of each study selected using the JBI Guidelines show that all studies score above 50%, which means it can be used as a reference for systematic review. Efforts to reduce anxiety can be done by implementing strict measures and protections to prevent contracting the COVID-19 virus. Conclusion: This review suggests that the nurse coping mechanism is formed through the guarantee of protection as a health worker that must be fulfilled properly. Hospitals and professional organizations have an important role in supporting this implementation.
