Abstract

The writing of this conceptual article is motivated by the existence of teaching materials that have not explicitly conveyed material about pragmatics. There needs to be a written submission and it is stated in the textbook that the material presented is about pragmatic studies. Studies that include persuasive speech seek to influence the reader. Searle's theory of persuasive speech act theory, which includes assertive, commissive, expressive, declarative, and directive speech acts is the subject of study in writing this conceptual article. Armed with these materials, students from the beginning have been prepared as linguists, although it is unlikely that all students are in that direction.

Abstract

This article explains the theory of speech acts proposed by John L. Austin and his student John R. Searle. Speech act theory is a sub-field of pragmatics. This field of study deals with the ways in which words can be used not only to present information but also to carry out actions. This theory considers three levels or components of speech: locutionary acts (the making of a meaningful statement, saying something that a hearer understands), illocutionary acts (saying something with a purpose, such as to inform), and perlocutionary acts (saying something that causes someone to act). Many view speech acts as the central units of communication, with phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic properties of an utterance serving as ways of identifying the meaning of a speaker’s utterance or illocutionary force. There are five types of Illocutionary points according to Searle: declarations, assertives, expressives, directives, and commissives (1979:viii). A speech act, in order to be successful, needs to be performed along with certain types of conditions. These conditions were categorized by the linguist John Searle, who introduced the term felicity conditions: propositional content condition, preparatory condition, sincerity condition, and essential condition.

Abstract

Indonesian Learning in schools will not be separated from learning literature as one part of the material that must be mastered by students. Not only understanding and mastery of theory, but students must also be able to apply literary learning theory in the form of real works. This relates to the competence of skills that must also be mastered by students as a form and proof of learning outcomes that have been carried out. The use of lecture media, or limited to discussion, is something that students always find and do by teachers. Although some teachers have started to apply several different and creative learning models. This is certainly evidence of the development of learning, considering the current conditions and circumstances require teachers to leave the conventional way and switch to a more modern learning model and a practical way and actually produce learning outcomes not just grades and intelligence in the form of numbers.
