Abstract

Indonesian is an important part of education. Indonesian as a knowledge manager in the 2013 curriculum has gone through a very long journey, since 1928 Indonesian has been the language of struggle. This understanding of language is in line with language education which has been championed by Indonesian due to the eroding sense of nationalism. The method of writing this article is literature study by exploring various scientific works related to this topic. The implementation of Indonesian as a knowledge manager in elementary schools is characterized by two opposite views. Pro views that Indonesian should be a science teacher in elementary schools, the approach in the 2013 curriculum that applies an integrative thematic is very appropriate for teaching text-based Indonesian. The counter view of the implementation of this policy is because the application of Indonesian in the 2013 curriculum does not involve much artistic values contained in literature. The essence of learning Indonesian is knowledge that must be given to students in order to teach them how to communicate well. Such communication can be made either orally or in writing, all to understand and respond to local, regional, national and global situations. This is one of the reasons learning Indonesian must be given at all levels of education, especially in elementary schools because it is the foundation of this learning.

Abstract

The Goal-based evaluation is an evaluation method introduced by Tyler as a pioneer in evaluating programs and policies in education. In practice, this method is also widely used by evaluators and researchers to evaluate programs in non-educational fields. Many publications report the results of evaluations from the 80s to the present, but have not made generalizations about these studies. This study aims to determine the application of goal-based evaluation as a generalized multifunctional evaluation method from various studies published online. Systematic reviews and meta-evaluations were carried out to investigate the characteristics of the evaluation research using the goal-based evaluation method, identify the steps of this method and discover the novelty of this method which can be adapted for subsequent applications. Data in the form of evaluation report articles were collected by searching online sources and selecting articles that met the criteria. Then each article is analyzed to find answers to the research objectives. The results of the study show that 1) the goal-based evaluation method can be used to evaluate various fields of study, 2) the steps of goal-based evaluation vary depending on the purpose of the evaluation, 3) modifications are carried out by the researcher by summarizing the evaluation steps, determining evaluators from various related fields, as well as determine program objectives at the outset in accordance with the parties related to the program. The application of goal-based evaluation and its modifications can be used as reference material for future evaluators in evaluating similar policies or programs as well as for researchers who will further develop this method.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of using the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFE) learning model assisted by concrete media on the ability to understand science concepts. The sample used was fifth grade students at SDN Pasuruhan 1, Mertoyudan District, Magelang Regency, totaling 29 students. Samples were taken using saturated sampling technique. This research method uses a pre-experimental method, namely the One Group Pretest-Posttest design. Data collection used an essay type test to measure students' understanding of concepts. This test is used to determine the ability to understand the concept before and after treatment. From the results of the study showed that the average result of the students' pretest was 57.5% and the average result of the students' posttest was 83.6%. The hypothesis test used was the paired sample t test with sig. of 0.000 and smaller than the significance level of 0.05. So it can be concluded that the use of the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFE) model assisted by concrete media has an effect on students' understanding of science concepts.

Abstract

Science learning in the 21st century requires teachers who are skilled at integrating technology functions into interactive science learning by utilizing multimedia to support students' scientific mastery of science concepts. However, the digital pedagogical skills of primary school teachers are still weak. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the professional learning communities (PLC) model developed to improve the digital pedagogy skills of elementary school teachers in science learning. This research is research and development at the stage of operational field testing. The study applied the pretest posttest control group design method. The research data was collected through tests of teachers' digital pedagogical skills in terms of learning tools. The research sample was 52 elementary school teachers in Surakarta City. The results of the study obtained a sig score. (2-tailed) of 0.002 <0.05 so it was concluded that the digital pedagogy skills of teachers in the experimental group were better than the control group. It can be concluded that the developed PLC model has been effective in improving the digital pedagogy skills of elementary school teachers in learning science.

Abstract

This article deals with some aspects of the English literature’s postcolonial background, looking at Salman Rushdie’s The Ground Beneath Her Feet from a cognitive linguistic perspective. At the same time, the paper aims at valorising the metaphors regarding “identity” and “alterity” within Rushdie’s literary discourse from his sixth novel. Although there has been a lot of research in this field there is still much to be discovered. Moreover, to date, there is no such analysis from a Cognitive linguistics point of view. Many researchers have been writing about Rushdie over the years, from different perspectives, but it seems there are no studies interested in discovering the writer’s options for figurative language in general, and especially the writer’s linguistic choices concerning “identity” and “alterity”.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) on the students’ reading comprehension of the seventh-grade students. This research applied a quantitative research approach with a quasi-experimental design. The dependent variable is reading comprehension and the independent variable is the Direct Reading Thinking Activity strategy. The subject of this research was 50 students of the seventh-grade students at SMP Nusa Indah and consists of 25 students as the experimental class and 25 students as the control class. The experimental class was treated by using Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA), while the control class was taught by conventional method. The instruments were used in this study were tests and observations. The tests were used to collect the data of the students’ reading comprehension of both of the classes. After the data was collected, the data analysis was carried out by comparing the results of the average value. The result of the analysis indicated that the mean of post-test score (85,28) of the experimental class was higher than the mean of post-test score (51,52) of the control class. It means that Ha was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy after giving treatment.

Abstract

Postmodernism is a multifaceted phenomenon of the mid to late 20th century, ubiquitous, ambiguous, paradoxical, fluid, double-coded (cultural) that simultaneously shows intellectual assimilation and mass culture, is also a continuation, disposal, and even succession of Modernism. This tripartite construction is an umbrella term related to several things at once, as it “left its mark in every cultural discipline from architecture to zoology, following the ways of biology, forestry, geography, history, law, literature and art in general. , medicine, politics, philosophy, sexuality, and so on. Yet these formless objects are still ghostly, and to some people, terrifying. Postmodern research methodology is an approach to research that emphasizes understanding of the complexity and diversity of social reality as well as the diversity of viewpoints and interpretations. Postmodern research suggests that the deployment of this "contemporary" device in stories set in Victorian England is a deliberate departure from traditional realist modes of writing. However, according to postmodern philosophy, the break from the old forms is not complete. The French Lieutenant Woman equally challenges the conventional constituencies of fiction, yet simultaneously installs what she opposes by openly demonstrating the possibility of continuation of the "old" within the "new".
