Abstract

ABSTRACT This article entitled “Analysis of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s War Strategy to Unite Japan Depicted in the Novel The Swordless Samurai by Kitami Masao” is mainly aimed at revealing Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s war strategy to unite Japan. This research was based on some books concerning The Swordless Samurai’s novel. The data was collected by reading those books for obtaining information relating to the war strategy and policy used for uniting Japan. The data was analyzed by descriptive qualitative method. Two theories were used in analyzing the data, namely the theory of war strategy psychology and the theory of Hegemony. The results of the analysis shows that the war strategy of Toyotomi Hideyoshi to unite Japan in the novel The Swordless Samurai are approach techniques with enemies, techniques to trick enemies and improve welfare for troops of war. These three techniques Toyotomi Hideyoshi able to unite Japan with a short time. Keywords: Toyotomi Hideyoshi, War Strategy, Policy

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims at describing imagery in the English translation of a Chinese poem written by Wang Wei, the great Chinese poet of Tang Dynasty. The focus of analysis is on imagery in the English translation of a Chinese poem entitled Qiuye Duzuo that is An Autum Night, Sitting Alone. It is interesting to analyze imagery in a poem to find out how vivid depiction of life is created through words. Through imagery, the readers of a poem can be brought into a certain situation that involves the human senses and part of body to see, hear, smell, touch and move. The identification of imagery in this study is based on Morner and Rausch (1998: 105) supported by the classification of imagery by Sayuti (2002). The results show that visual imagery is predominantly found in the poem that involves the eyes to see, meanwhile some lines can also be categorized as the auditory imagery that refers to images which involve the ears to hear. Abstract

ABSTRACT Dalam mengekspresikan apa yang ada di dalam pikiran, manusia sebagai mahluk yang ekspresif, selalu menemukan cara mengungkapkan pikiran tersebut dalam kalimat dan menuangkan dalam sebuah karya baik itu novel, drama, puisi, atau syair lagu. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan jenis metafora dan maknanya pada lirik lagu Beatles pada album Love. Data diperolah dari lirik lagu sebuah grup musik bernama The Beatles yang merupakan salah satu grup musik yang sangat terkenal di dunia. Dalam album “Love “, ditemukan 26 lagu dan akhirnya dipilih 8 lagu untuk dianalisa. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik observasi, dimulai dengan mencatat lirik dari 8 lagu The Beatles yang memuat majas metafora dan mengategorikan data-data tersebut berdasarkan tipe metafora. kemudian data dianalisa dengan menggunakan metode kuantitatif menggunakan teori metafora oleh Lakoff and Johnson (2003) dan didukung dengan teori dari Konvecses (2002; 2010) and Lakoff (1980). Hasil temuan dari penelitian ini bahwa terdapat ketiga jenis metafora, yaitu: Structural Metaphor, Orientational Metaphor, dan Ontological Metaphor dan juga figure berkaitan yang dipakai dalam data pada lirik lagu grup musik The Beatles. Selain itu, proses mapping ungkapan metafora dari sumber ke ranah target banyak mengungkap makna sebenarnya. Penelitian ini banyak mengungkap metafora yang digunakan pada lirik lagu dan ungkapan tersebut kebanyakan mencerminkan pengalaman hidup manusia dan interaksi manusia dengan dunia sekitarnya. Abstract

ABSTRAK Proses penerjemahan sangatlah komplek karena tidak hanya melibatkan dua bahasa yang berbeda namun juga dua budaya, dimana setiap bahasa memiliki sistemnya sendiri. Tujuan dari studi ini adalah untuk menganalisis variasi terjemahan ‘then’ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Data diambil, dikumpulkan, dan dianalisis dari buku terjemahan karya Judy Blume yang terkenal berjudul “Just As Long As We’re Together” dan terjemahannya yang berjudul “Selama Kita Bersama”. Buku ini dipilih karena ceritanya memberikan inspirasi bagi kawula muda yang bercerita tentang persahabatan dan mengandung banyak kata penghubung ‘then’ yang menarik untuk dianalisis. Metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif diterapkan berdasarkan teori Dynamic Equivalence oleh Nida yang menyatakan bahwa penerjemahan bertujuan untuk mengekspresikan segala sesuatunya secara natural atau alami dan merupakan kombinasi dari seni/estetika, keahlian, dan pengetahuan. Analisa kuantitatif digunakan untuk menujukkan jumlah kemunculan kata ‘then’ dan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia. Sedangkan metode kualitatif digunakan untuk menjabarkan variasi terjemahannya. Variasi kata yg dipilih oleh penerjemah untuk menerjemahkan kata penghubung ‘then’, antara lain lalu, kemudian, kalau begitu, dengan begitu, maka. Kata yang paling sering dipergunakan adalah lalu. Selain itu ditemukan pula beberapa yang tanpa terjemahan. Penggunaan variasi bahasa ini berdasarkan pada pilihan, seni/estetika, dan rasa yang didapatkan oleh penerjemah berdasarkan pemahaman dan keahliannya dalam memahami isi dari konteks cerita. Abstract

ABSTRACT Bali is always trying to improve itself in aspects of tourism especially in accommodation and services. In terms of service to tourists, communication is one of the most decisive factors. It encourages workers in tourism sector to have good communication skills, especially communication in English. This phenomenon requires the graduates in education and training institutions of hospitality and tourism to have good communication skills, especially communication in English. In this study, the student of STIPAR Triatma Jaya majoring in Hotel Acomodation Management was raised as an object of research. The analysis in this study was made to answer the following questions: (1) the problems were faced by students in speaking English in terms of pronunciation (phonology), and (2) to find some factors in hibiting students in learning to speak. Aim of this study is to improve learning quality of English speaking ability. Primary data and secondary data were used as the data source. Data collection was taken by doing observation in research location, and descriptive qualitative technique was used to analyse the data. This research showed that students majoring in the Hotel Acomodation Management experienced problems during the lesson especially in communicate English pronounciation, it is still influenced by the magnitude ofthe first language or mother tongue. Some factors have limited the students in speaking English, those factors are: components of linguistic mastery, and mastery of the content component, and environmental conditions during the learning process for example, the conditions where there was a little open space in the class room resulting the inclusion of sounds that interfere the process of learning. Keywords: speaking, phonology ,pronunciation, barriers, foreign language(English).

Abstract

ABSTRACT Balinese language is a traditional language spoken by the local people of Bali. In use, there are variations that have specific characteristics in each region. Differences or variations in the use of Balinese language can be observed in each district at the level of sound, morphological, syntactic and lexical. The variation in Balinese language raises particular dialect in each region. Accordingly, this study specifically addresses the lexical and sounds or phonological variation contained in the dialect of Balinese Language, specifically in the area of Jimbaran, Kedonganan and Unggasan and also found the factors contributing those variations happened. Sociolinguistics, Dialectology and Phonology Generative approaches were applied in the analysis of this research.The method of collecting the data in this research are close observation method with refers to the technique of tapping, face-to-face interview technique, eave-dropping technique, recording and note-taking technique.Generally found there are some lexical variation found in these three areas used to mention the same things. The lexical variation found are in class of pronoun, noun, verb, adjective, and adverbial. In phonological variation found there are 7 variations in Jimbaran, 5 variations in Kedonganan, and 7 variations in Ungasan. Those phonological variations also analyzed phonological rules to find out in what environment some sound of morpheme will change in each dialect.
