Abstract

Communication on social media raises at a significant rate during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Social media communication (SMC) in specific culture requires particular strategies related to cultural norms. Due to the limitation of cyber communication compares to direct communication, users of social media utilize available features in social media platforms to perform politeness. The strategies of Javanese netizens to perform Javanese politeness maxims in SMC are the main discussion in this study. The data were collected from five WhatsApp Groups (WAG) of Javanese adults of 20s-40s of age comprising 246 respondents. The conversation texts containing phatic talks in WAG were selected by observation method. Then, the conversational texts and communication icons were transcribed for contextual analysis. The result shows that the Javanese maxims of Kurmat (Respect), Tepa Selira (Tolerance), Andhap Asor (Humility), and Empan Papan (Self-Awareness) were utilized by Javanese netizens in performing politeness in virtual phatic communication. During the pandemic, tolerance maxim is the most frequently used to support each other. The maxim of humility is not obvious in virtual phatic communication. To this extent, Javanese politeness maxims are mitigating devices to establish social rapport in phatic communication. The Javanese ability in performing Javanese maxims as politeness devices is essential to avoid conflict and mitigate Face Threatening Act (FTA) since the Javanese community tends to create harmony in life known as Guyub Rukun.

Abstract

Monetary issues take an important part in human existence. Financial problems cover many areas in an individual's life, especially the social-social field. The monetary elements in public activities play an important role in determining the degree of social position of a person or group in their current state. In public activities there are several factors that affect a person's level of social position, namely certain financial elements, educational variables, innate elements, and individual work factors. However, in public activities in Indonesia, in general, the monetary element is the most interesting thing that can be used as a benchmark for one's economic welfare. An individual with a high level of abundance will have different ways of life and tendencies compared to an individual who is below the standard level. This social separation certainly has the impact of progress and setbacks in order to support the social life of the community.

Abstract

Syair Nasihat (SN) is a classic Malay literary work written using Arabic letters/characters and in Malay. This SN contains various kinds of advice for humans to be able to achieve the happiness of life, both in this world and in the hereafter. This teaching is still considered very relevant to human life in the postmodern era, which is even further away from religious values. As a result, it is difficult for humans to find true happiness in every episode of their life. Therefore, a study on SN needs to be done so that postmodern humans can at least get inspiration to be able to find true happiness in the process of life. The research method used is the philological method. This method is intended so that researchers can present good and correct text edits. Furthermore, the edits are studied with content analysis, particularly those related to the quantum concepts of dhikr. The concept of quantum dhikr therapy is contained in the SN text, namely (1) oral dhikr; (2) heart remembrance; (3) mind remembrance; and (4) deeds dhikr. This quantum dhikr study is expected to provide an overview and simultaneously convince readers/connoisseurs of SN about the potential of dhikr that can be used as an alternative to strengthen mentally and spiritually, both during the Covid 19 pandemic and post-pandemic.
