Abstract

The commercial synthesis of fatty acid esters of glycerol is important because it can be used for other derivative production varieties. This research aims to construct the quality monitoring system for esterification condition faster and more efficient for the production of esterification glycerol. The monitoring systems were based on the measurement parameters from two inputs LED mid IR 3,4 and 5,5 μm sensors that using the data acquisition with computer database via USB 2.0 using Arduino Leonardo microcontroller and classifying the esterification quality condition using the classification method K-Nearest Neighborhood (KNN) The purpose of KNN method is to classify the variations of parameter inputs from the LED mid IR sensors in quality monitoring. In this research the condition of esterification was divided into three conditions: not good, fair, good., these classification was trained and tested in Orange Software for data mining using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve that is a graphical plot that illustrates the excellent performance of a classifier system for esterification condition with AUC . In application for quality monitoring, the influence of various parameters such as temperature set in the reactor has relation to the quality of product. By using this system, we obtained the optimum process conditions is 200oC and time needed for the process was 200 minutes.

Abstract

This research aims at investigating the area of interest (AOI) of the human operator when conducting automated robotic assembly task. A technical system, so called control cognitive unit (CCU), is applied into this empirical study to represent human cognition system and based on the prior knowledge, to adapt into condition changing of product structure and material supply. To improve the compatibility between human expectation and the technical system, this empirical study is designed and focused on different model of robot behaviour based on number of human-oriented production rule that applied in the models. Participants are expected to recognize the robot’s work pattern regarding assembly sequences using LEGO brick and carburetor and then to predict the position of the next brick or carburetor part. The result of ANOVA test of assembly task using LEGO brick finds significant differences on the fixation duration for the interaction between the model of robot behaviour and the assembly group as well as between the assembly group and AOI. Assembly with carburetor shows a significant difference for interaction between the model of robot behaviour and AOI. Furthermore, the fixation duration of the participants during the assembly processes using the most-human oriented model lead to the shortest fixation duration

Abstract

This study focuses on the correlation between absorptive capacity and inovation. Most theories believe that absorptive capacity is positively correlated to inovation. However, a survey on 34 studies with total sample size of 19,529 shows a wide variation of the correlation coefficients, i.e. from -0.080 to 0.640. This study applies a meta-analysis on those 34 studies to find the true correlation of absorptive capacity and inovation. A procedure of sampling error correction and measurement error correction was carried out, and the result shows that the true correlation is between 0.026 and 0.694 with mean of 0.36, which is significantly positive on 95% confidence interval. Further analysis finds an indication that other variable influences the strength of the correlation, leads to an opportunity to conduct further specific meta-analysis studies.

Abstract

Order picking is the most labour and costly activities both in manual system and automated system. So, it is necessary to improve efficiency and productivity. One way to do is to reduce travel distance or travel time. Time can be reduced by implementing routing heuristics method which has the shortest distance, and shorter distance means less energy consumption and fit to greener warehousing concept. The research at PT. GMS, Jakarta shows the routing method – Midpoint, The Largest Gap, and Combined – dynamic programming are the most efficient method

Abstract

This study focused on quality improvement on PVC production process, which has high level of product defects of 6.04%. Six sigma with DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) approach was used to improve the process. Each step of DMAIC was conducted to carefully analyze and keep the process precisely. The PVC production process contains a number of 6722.963 product defects in million opportunities (DPMO), with sigma level of 3.97. Three priority defects, based on pareto diagram tool i.e. scorched (35.12%), failed socket (28.22%), and standard of thickness (19.24%) will be focused on. In the improve step of DMAIC, FMEA form was used to propose some recommendations in order to improve the process, that are establish a mixing process standard time, training the operator whose responsible in each PVC process, establish an oven temperature standard in socketing process, and establish a standard set up of bolt adjustment to get the appropriate thickness of pipe.

Abstract

Advances in science and technology that have an impact on the environment resulting in increasing human awareness of the condition of the environment, for example in the selection and use of environmentally friendly products. This requires businesses to apply the concept of environmental concerns in their business process, including the entire supply chain. Green supply chain management is a concept that integrates environmental thinking into supply chain management, which includes product design, procurement and selection of raw materials, manufacturing processes, delivery of final products to consumers, in addition reverse products used by consumers. This study aims to measure the performance of Green Supply Chain Management in the supply chain of a manufacturing industry. Performance measurement was conducted on the two main processes, namely the design of performance measurement model and weighting and scoring performance. This study uses a Green SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) model to design the measurement model and AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method to determine its weight. There are 16 KPIs (Key Performance Indicator) identified for use in performance measurement. Value performance indicators obtained for each aspect are as follows: Plan for 68, Source of 66.54, Make amounted to 58.89, Delivery of 32.80, and Return As much as 56.85. Referring to the model that is created, the value of the overall supply chain performance amounted at 60.13. Under the statutes of the company, the value is considered sufficient because it includes criteria for good performance, but it was on the threshold between good and bad categories. Continuous improvement in the supply chain by using a model Green SCOR will improve the company's performance, enhance corporate image and ultimately promote environmental sustainability for the future of mankind.

Abstract

PT. XYZ uses a decentralises system for the delivery of products, where the delivery of products to consumers done by the dealer. PT. XYZ uses expedition logistics to deliver products to dealers. It is expected to make the shipping cost is high. This study changed the pattern of delivery of products directly carried out by PT. XYZ without going through dealers (centralises system). Then compare the lowest shipping cost of both systems. These results indicate that the system centralises can save shipping costs by 77% compared to a decentralises system.

Abstract

There must be a lot of factors influence human muscle strength, both internal and external aspects. This study considers three main factors thought to affect human muscle strength, which are: muscle contraction, types of hand, and also gender. There are also covariance variables that are used, e.g. BMI and physical activity. Strength of biceps, forearms and trapezius muscles were measured using experimental design approach, among individuals with range of aged 19-24 years. Based on the calculation, all factors are proven to have significant correlation at significance level 0f 0.05. In addition, BMI and activity also has a relationship with muscle strength.Using all these factors, regression linear model was built to predict muscle strength. Additionally, maximum lifting strength was also estimated based on predicted muscle strength. Based on internal validity using paired t-test, the result show that predicted muscle strength and maximum lifting force have no difference to measured ones
