Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out grammatical most frequently made by the student in writing descriptive text. This study was quantitative and qualitative method. The population of this study is Students' English Department of Muhammadiyah University. The writer chose 23 students as the sample. In this study, collect the data used observation, writing test, and documentation. The result shows there were 328 items of error in the students’ writing. The percentage of errors made by students in writing descriptive text are noun phrase 49,7%, verb phrase36,3%, adjective phrase 8,8%and adverb phrase5,2%. The writer finds that the grammar errors that most of the students made were in noun phrases, with a cumulative total of 163 errors or 49.7%. From the research findings, it is suggested learners have to use these errors as a means to study more about correct the use of grammar in descriptive texting, especially in the use of noun phrases, verb phrases, and adjectives. For teachers to work harder on noun phrases and verb phrases because they are the most frequent failures that are made by students in their writing.

Abstract

According to the Indonesian curriculum, which requires students to speak, speaking is now one of the essential abilities in learning English. The four English skills that students acquire in class include speaking. Additionally, a number of problems come up throughout the teaching and learning process. Speaking difficulties frequently include anxiety while speaking in front of a group of people, a limited vocabulary and a worry about making errors. This study aims to determine whether viewing SpongeBob SquarePants with English subtitles can improve students’ speaking ability. The participants of the study consisted of 9 students from junior high school number 4 Bengkulu, enrolled in the 9th grade for the academic year 2022/2023. Purposive sampling was used to choose them for a variety of reasons. This study employed a pre-experimental methodology to investigate the impact of using the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon on enhancing English-speaking ability. Pre-test and post-test measures are used to analyze data in this design, which does not call for a control group (Creswell & Creswell, 2018). As a consequence, employing a cartoon had a significant impact on the students’ speaking ability. It may be inferred that the research topic has been addressed and that it has been demonstrated that the application has been successful in enhancing the speaking skills of ninth-grade students. It was also found that cartoon usage application can be a center for language teacher techniques in learning English because of intense and meaningful language practice. In this study, students also do a lot of unconscious speaking skills in class because they think they are watching cartoon in a class. It shows that the students are easy to actively participate in learning that had made them used language and therefore learn it.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out students’ errors in pronouncing vowel sounds which consisted of twelve sounds. The researcher used fourth-semester students of English Department at the University of Bengkulu. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative because the researcher described about the students’ errors. Four students taken from three classes of English Department in academic year 2021/2022 WERE the sample used in this study. To collect the data, the researcher used a pronunciation test as the instrument. In analyzing the data, the researcher transcribed the recording in the form of phonetic transcription. As a result, the researcher found that students made errors in all of the vowel sounds. All of the students made error in pronouncing vocabularies with vowel sound /ɔ:/ and /ʊ/. Those errors are classified into three kinds of errors namely vowel length error, different English vowel sound system from Indonesian Vowel and students’ Wrong Pronunciation Acquisition. First, the students cannot differentiate the vowel length such as vowel /iː/ into vowel /ɪ/ and vice versa, vowel /u:/ to vowel /ʊ/, vowel /ɜː/ into vowel /e/ and vowel sound /Ʌ/ into /ɑ:/. Second, the students substituted the vowel /æ/ into vowel /e/ and vowel sound /ә/ into /e/ or vice versa because there is no vowel sounds such as /æ/ and /ә/ in Indonesian. Last, the students substituted the vowel /ɔː/ into /ɑ:/ and vowel /ʊ/ into vowel /ə/ where they were actually different but the students considered that it was true.

Abstract

This research discusses about EFL Students’ Perception of Using Grammarly in Undergraduate Paper Writing. The objective of this study was aimed to elaborate the challenges faced by students’ in writing a research paper by using Grammarly and investigated the students’ perception of using Grammarly in undergraduate paper writing. This study used descriptive qualitative method, involved 23 students’ of English Education who used Grammarly in writing a paper. Brief rating scales questionnaires were used to gather the data. The results showed that students’ responded positively to the use of Grammarly in undergraduate paper writing. Most of the students agreed that using Grammarly makes the process of writing more clearly, easy, and fascinating. Grammarly can help students’ in correcting the grammatical errors and plagiarism in their writing. However, writing a paper should be with the correct and good grammar so that the reader can easily to found out the meaning and also more understandable the paper. The researcher suggested for the next research to focus on the teacher perception of using Grammarly to assist the students’ in writing a research paper.

Abstract

This study aimed to observe students’ self-reflection activities are evident in the classroom to stimulate critical reading activities.. The study used a qualitative case study method in the process of data taken from observation. The participant of this study was chosen purposively which was 15 students second-level of English Education Program at one of the Universities in Ciamis who was observed. The result of this study revealed that it can be seen that there are reflection activities through reader response in the literature class, students are encouraged to read critically. This study concludes that the used of reflection through reader response in digital literature learning is effective in use and can stimulate critical reading activities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of the principal regarding programming, organizing, activating and supervising at SMPN 21 Seluma and at SMPN 24 Kota Bengkulu. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with research subjects being principals, teachers, administrative staff engineering data collection using interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques by collecting data, analyzing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions, and testing the validity of the data are carried out with credibility which includes triangulation, transferability, dependability and confirmability. Research shows that school principals plan detailed HR, policies, curriculum by involving teachers, committees. Organizing begins with compiling the school's organizational structure, division of competence. Mobilizing teachers and staff by providing directions and guidance, motivating employees to take part in training seminars, workshops, continuing studies and holding monthly evaluation meetings, supervision bymeans of; observing attendance discipline, learning process, seeking information through the school's deputy head and colleagues, and conducting supervision.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe efforts to improve teacher discipline in developing learning tools based on independent learning through academic supervision at Junior High School 01 Bengkulu Utara. The method used in this study is the act of supervision. Data collection techniques interview, observation and documentation. Data analysis uses average and percentage calculation techniques. Pre-cycle research showed that teachers laked discipline in preparing learning tools, so researchers carried out supervisory actions through academic supervision of class visit techniques, teacher meetings and direct approaches by school principals. The results showed that teacher discipline could increase by 80% or 8 teachers succeeded in developing learning tools based on independent learning at SMP Negeri 01 Bengkulu Utara.

Abstract

If character formation is already wrong, it will have an impact on the character of children in the future. Character education is a system of instilling character values that includes knowledge components. This research aims to find out how the value of honesty and discipline in character education for early childhood according to Ki Hajar Dewantara. The type of research used is library research. This research is conducted by a series of collecting, processing and analyzing data taken from written literature, so that it is clear about the values of honesty and discipline in early childhood according to Ki Hajar Dewantara. Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate: (1) the psychological characteristics of SMANKO Bengkulu Province athletes in terms of individual sports, (2) in terms of team sports, (3) the psychological characteristic differences of SMANKO Bengkulu Province athletes in terms of individual and team sports. This research employed the quantitative with comparative design. The subjects in this research were 56 athletes, namely 28 individual athletes and 28 team sports athletes. The data collection technique was conducted with the psychological skills inventory for sports that adopted from Mahoney, Gabriel & Perkins, (1987). Data were analyzed using t-test with a significant level of 0.05. The data were collected using the Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports questionnaire and analyzed using the independent sample t test. The research findings revealed that: (1) the psychological characteristics of SMANKO Bengkulu Province athletes in terms of individual sports, (2) the psychological characteristics of SMANKO Bengkulu Province athletes in terms of team sports are in high category, (3) there were no significant differences in the psychological characteristics of SMANKO Bengkulu Province athletes in terms of individual and team sports values = 0.508 > 0.05.

Abstract

This research design aims to find out how the project management of strengthening the student profile of Pancasila as an implementation of the “kurikulum merdeka” at SDIT Uswatun Hasanah Padang Jaya. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study. This research includes descriptive analysis, case study. The subjects in this study were 5 people, namely: 1) Principal, 2) Vice principal for curriculum affairs, 3) Classroom teacher, 4) Mupel teacher and 5) Students of SDIT Uswatun Hasanah Padang Jaya. Various techniques were used to collect data and information. They are: (1) interviews, (2) observations, and (3) documentation studies. In accordance with the method, the research instruments used are as follows: 1) interview method, the instrument is an interview guideline; 2) observation, the instrument is a check list; 3) documentation, the instrument is a documentation guideline. Based on the research that has been conducted, it shows that the management of the art performance project at SDIT Uswatun Hasanah can foster the character of the Pancasila learner profile and the creativity of students in performing their art as an implementation of the “kurikulum merdeka”.
