Abstract

The misconception is the most topic in chemistry learning that is important to analyze. There are many advantages for lecturers and students to know about misconceptions. This research aims to describe misconceptions in general chemistry courses, especially intermolecular forces (IMFs) topic. The two-tier multiple-choice tests have played an important role in helping researchers determine students’ level of understanding and in identifying specific misconceptions. The project used a convenience sample of 88 students (76 female and 12 male) chemistry education program that studied IMFs as participants. Misconception knew from the test’s second tier, which is the student’s reason for the answer. Surprisingly, 29 misconceptions were acquired from the test about IMFs concepts.  This needs to be a special concern for lecturers of basic chemistry courses in order to evaluate the learning process that has been carried out. Students misconceptions in basic chemistry courses will have an impact on organic chemistry courses because the concept of intermolecular forces will be studied in depth in organic chemistry courses. The success of students in organic chemistry courses is highly dependent on the initial knowledge of students, especially in basic chemistry courses

Abstract

The success of learning process can be seen from students' achievements and critical thinking skills. One approach that can be used to improve learning achievement and CTS is STEM. Many researchers have conducted research on STEM, but have not been specific about the aspects that play a role on it. This research aims to determine the effect of STEM from the facility aspect, teacher aspect and environmental aspect on learning achievement and CTS. This survey research used purposive sampling involving 152 students. The research instrument consists of a questionnaire to see students' perceptions of STEM from three aspects and a test instrument to determine students' learning achievement and CTS. Data analysis was carried out using partial least square. The research results show that (1) the facility aspect has the greatest influence on learning achievement; (2) environmental aspects have the greatest influence on CTS; (3) the three aspects of STEM learning have a big influence on learning achievement and CTS; and (4) learning achievement greatly influences CTS. These results show that STEM is very feasible to be implemented in the classroom to improve learning achievement and CTS

Abstract

Momordica balsamina L. is a wild plant that generally grows in moist soil and gets a lot of sunlight. The leaves and fruit are reported to have various medicinal and nutritional properties.  This study aimed to isolate and identify the compounds contained in the ethyl acetate fraction in Momordica balsamina L The isolation stage was carried out by the maceration method and the separation and purification of the compounds using gravity column chromatography methods to obtain isolate fraction F1.6.2 with a sample weight of 2.4 mg. Identification of compounds using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR) spectroscopy techniques. The proposed identified compound is octadecan-3-one or 3-octadecanone with the molecular formula C18H36O

Abstract

Effective communication and creative thinking are soft skills that are very necessary in the 21st century. Character is a set of traits which means personality and morals. This research aims to describe the analysis of needs for designing instruments for assessing effective communication and creative thinking for Aceh vocational school students in carrying out assessments of effective communication and creative thinking. Data was obtained from a questionnaire of 65 Aceh Vocational School students. The sample used was 65 Aceh vocational school students. Data was collected through a questionnaire distributed to the entire sample. Data were analyzed using the social sciences statistical package version 25.0 for frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The research results show the need to study effective communication and creative thinking as a reference in preparing students to enter the world of work and industry. This is done because so far there has been no assessment of effective communication and creative thinking because there are no instruments, so it cannot be concluded whether students who have completed vocational education so far have done well or not in meeting government and industry expectations. The character of effective communication and creative thinking is an important and necessary consideration in the industrial world known as atitut. On this basis, it can be concluded that it is necessary to design an instrument to assess the character of effective communication and creative thinking

Abstract

In TIMSS 2019, Indonesia is ranked 56 out of 58 countries, so teachers need to know the criteria for interactive media, learning media that must be used by teachers so that they are happy and acceptable to students. Quizizz is one of the interactive media chosen by teachers as a medium for learning because it is based on games and technology. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using Quizizz media on students' critical thinking skills in science subjects This research method uses a quantitative approach, because the data presented is in the form of numbers with a weak-experimental research design. The number of samples in this study was 64 students, who were divided into experimental groups and control groups. The instruments given are test sheets and satisfaction questionnaire sheets. Based on the results of research that has been carried out pretest on the control class and experimental class obtained  an effect convention value  of 0.19 which can be said there is no significant difference between the control class and the experimental class and after being given postest treatment obtained by the control class and experimental class  the effect convention value This can be said to be a significant difference between the control class and the experimental class. So it can be concluded that there is a positive influence on the use of Quizizz on science learning with the SESD approach on students' critical thinking skills

Abstract

As an environmental degradation, air pollution is contrary to sustainable development goals (SDGs). Therefore, through education for sustainable development (ESD), there is a need to enhance students’ capability in solving such problem. STEM learning encourages students to work on real-world problem through hands on activity in line with ESD necessity. This research aims to analyze how the ESD-based STEM learning practice through air quality monitor project using Arduino could influence students’ sustainability understanding in solving air pollution. Students’ sustainability understanding towards air pollution which was measured is based on cognitive learning objectives related to SDGs number 3 good health and well-being, SDGs 7 affordable and clean energy, SDGs 12 responsible consumption and production, SDGs 13 Climate action, and SDGs 15 Life on land. The research uses quasi experimental method with pretest-posttest design. This research also developed the instrument to measure sustainability understanding about air pollution. The result of data analysis shows that after the treatment, there is no significant difference between control and experiment class in students’ sustainability understanding. The result implies that the activity of making air quality monitor does not give significant difference in enhancing sustainability understanding. However, the result migh be influenced by some factors which make the implementation of ESD-based STEM learning to be not optimal

Abstract

This research focuses on utilizing ClassPoint interactive media in learning organic chemistry courses. Interactive media can potentially increase student engagement and understanding of complex material. Organic chemistry is often considered difficult, and students rely on lecturers to understand it. However, the lack of student involvement in the learning process is a problem that needs to be addressed. This research aims to describe student perspectives on the use of ClassPoint in learning organic chemistry, evaluate the effectiveness of ClassPoint in increasing student engagement, and identify the interactive features that students are most interested in. The research involved 53 participants of the Tanjungpura University FKIP Chemistry Education Study Program students who had taken the organic chemistry course. The research results show that the perspective of Chemistry Education students regarding the use of ClassPoint Interactive media is in the strongly agree category with a percentage of 91.55%. The strongly agree category is viewed from 3 aspects, namely the motivation and interest in learning aspect; knowledge and skills aspects; as well as the feature usability aspect, each of which received the strongly agree category. This indicates that ClassPoint interactive media is liked and wants to continue to be used in learning in organic chemistry courses. By utilizing ClassPoint, students become more involved in the learning process, increase understanding, and increase motivation and interest in learning. This research is an important step in optimizing interactive learning media to support more effective and interesting learning of organic chemistry
