Abstract

Hotel Kristal is the first hotel in Kota Kupang with the first 3-star standard. The increasing development of the hotel business made the owner of Kristal Hotel switch management to Swiss-Belhotel International. Changes in hotel management include the creation of a new corporate identity and require a promotion to be known, recognized and can be a reference when wanting to use hotel services, with a promotional strategy to promote a new corporate identity to the public through media relations. This study aims to find out what media relations are used in promotions and obstacles and solutions. The type of research used is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data in this study were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation study techniques. The results of the study show that the press luncheon and press gathering are media relations activities which are one of the promotional strategies used in promoting the identity of Swiss-Belinn Kristal Kupang. In promoting a new corporate identity, the company encounters obstacles, namely the high-budget advertising budget, through this obstacle, the company can overcome it by utilizing the company's social media as a forum for promotion, without reducing relations with local media. It is hoped that through this research Swiss-Belinn Kristal Kupang Hotel can maintain its existence by expanding the reach of relations with the media, and can make identity as an asset to maintain and increase business value.

Abstract

Campaign strategies are needed by each regional head candidate who participated in the contestation of governor election, including the Victory-Joss who participated in the contestation of the 2018 East Nusa Tenggara governor election. Victory-Joss who previously were not very well-known by East Nusa Tenggara communities must strive to reach all areas of East Nusa Tenggara, which are an archipelago province, to be able to introduce themselves, bring political messages to almost all people of East Nusa Tenggara so that they can be acknowledged more closely, and all their best intentions for East Nusa Tenggara can be recognized. This is where an extension of Victory-Joss’s campaign team, which is the online media, as one of the Victory-Joss’s package campaign strategies is needed to reach wider communities. The purposes of this study are to discover and explain the Victory-Joss’s package campaign strategy and the reasons for conducting the campaign strategy by the Victory-Joss pair to gain East Nusa Tenggara communities’ supports in the 2018 East Nusa Tenggara regional election. The research type that was employed was qualitative historical research with a case study method. Data in this study were collected through interviews and document collection techniques. The results showed that the campaign strategy through online media conducted by the Victory-Joss package was to form a media team consisting of five online media that have existed in East Nusa Tenggara, namely seputar-ntt.com, likuraionline.com, savanaparadise.com, nttsatu.com, and mediantt.com, and also to form an IT team and social media teams to distribute videos and memes related to Victory-Joss’s package’s words when campaigning on the field as well as in the Victory-Joss’s package campaign contained in the five online media’s publicity that contained news about the appearance of Victory-Joss’s package in traditional and cultural events which were held in the midst of the East Nusa Tenggara communities.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the accommodation in convergence, divergence and excessive accommodation in intercultural interactions that occur between the original residents of Kiuteta hamlet and new residents of Kiuteta hamlet and new residents of Timor Leste in the village of Noelbaki, Kupang. The theory used in this study is the theory of communication accommodation. This research is a type of qualitative research. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants in this study amounted to 11 people, namely : (1) five new residents of Timor Leste, (2) five residents of the Kiuteta Hamlet, (3) Noelbaki Village leader. The results of this study indicate that in conversation people have three choices namely convergence, divergence, and excessive accommodation. Intercultural interaction of communication accommodation of convergence between indigenous residents of the Kiuteta Hamlet and new residents of Timor Leste, namely mutual respect when speaking and adjusting language where new residents of Timor Leste must adjust, understand the language use of the native inhabitants of the Kiuteta Hamlet. Convergence choices occur in some new residents of Timor Leste who still maintain a culture (dialect) to highlight differences. An act of excessive accommodation at an interaction where new residents of Timor Leste are considered as rude citizens. Suggestions for achieving common goals in diversity the adaptation process should continue to be carried out by local residents and new residents of Timor Leste in Kiuteta hamlet.

Abstract

Long-Distance Relationship requires an effective communication process between the two to maintain relationships. So far there have been many negative assumptions about long-distance relationships. Most people doubt the success of long-distance relationships due to time constraints to meet and communicate directly. However, along with the development of communication technology, distance is not a barrier to establish relationship. The purpose of this study is to find out the use of WhatsApp as a communication medium for a long-distance relationship, also to find out the obstacles and solutions in establishing a long-distance relationship by students of the Communication Science Study Program. The theory used in this study is the Social Penetration Theory. The method in this study uses the Phenomenology method. While data analysis uses an Interactive Analysis model by Miles and Huberman, and the determining informants' technique using Purposive Sampling techniques. The result of the study indicates that Whatsapp is considered very helpful for long-distance relationships, especially features like video-call, voice-call, chatting, and emoticon that helps to express feelings, self-disclosure, build trust, strengthen commitment, and also maintain communication. The obstacle in using Whatsapp such as pirated Whatsapp use, typing errors, incorrect punctuation, use of emoticon that are different from the message, and network constraints. The solutions to reducing misunderstandings are become wiser in using Whatsapp, understanding partner and hold back more, also keep communicating to minimize misunderstanding so the relationship can be maintained.

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology brings relevant changes in several areas of human life. No exception with the field of journalism. Developments that influence the existence of the media force conventional media to provide new policies that are more efficient and effective for society. One of them is by making an online version of the news portal. Increasingly intense media competition requires online journalistic media workers to work fast from searching to working on news that is a routine for journalists. The purpose of this study was to find out the routines of ANTARA News NTT online media reporters in producing news and to find out the meaning of routines by ANTARA News NTT online media reporters in producing news. The theory used in research is the theory of new media / new media. The method in this study uses ethnographic media methods. Data were collected through in-depth interview techniques, participatory observation, and documentation. While the data analysis uses Cresswell's analysis model, and the data validity technique uses triangulation. The results showed that the routine of ANTARA News's online media reporter NTT in producing news consisted of five stages, including preparing the agenda for coverage, coverage, news script writing, editing by the editor, and dissemination to the general public. ANTARA News NTT online media reporter interpreted his routine in producing news, including journalist rituals, part of a journalist's life, and the demands of the profession.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the Role of Organizational Communication in improving the performance of employees of the Dutalia Oesapa Supermarket in Kupang City. The theory used in this study is the theory of human relations. This research is a qualitative study with research procedures that produce descriptive data. The informants in this study were determined by the principle of adequacy and conformity. Test the validity of the data using qualitative data analysis of Milles & Huberman. The results of the study found that the role of communication applied to Dutalia Oesapa Kupang went well in improving employee performance. Dutalia Oesapa Kupang employees must know and be able to apply the Guest Service Cycle (GSC) as a standard employee service cycle so that communication between leaders and fellow employees can be well established and each employee still feels valued and cared for by the leadership and fellow employees, and there is no the gap between senior workers and general workers in order to improve good employee performance so that they know about how communication takes place through various stages that are carried out continuously, change, and there is no end in order to deliver messages. Employee Performance at Dutalia Oesapa Kupang is a real achievement achieved by a person both in quality and quantity that an employee achieves in carrying out his duties in accordance with the responsibilities given. Organizational communication in Dutalia Oesapa Kupang should apply the human relations theory that must have work performance evaluations for all employees within the organization, so that the organization can know the extent of achievement levels. This can be used as a benchmark for giving compensation in making innovations that will improve employee performance.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the communication experience of Manggarai students when adapting to students from Kota Kupang at Nusa Cendana University and to analyze the strategies / stages that students go through and to find out and analyze the meanings of Manggarai students about the status of migrant students in Kupang City. This study uses the phenomenology method with the reason that this research departs from phenomena or experiences that occur in everyday life. By using potential informants as data sources, in this study the data is presented through in-depth interviews and non-participant observation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions / verification. This study uses the Accommodation Theory of Communication and Phenomenology Theory as a reference for data analysis. The results of the study based on the Communication Accommodation Theory that from communication experience revealed that, students from Manggarai who were studied conducted convergence by learning to use the dialect and the Kupang language. This is done in order to create effective communication where, the mutual understanding between communicators and communicants. Not only that, students from Manggarai also began to build social intimacy with Kupang City students. In addition, the form of strategies / stages of cultural adaptation carried out by students from Manggarai are students from Manggarai studied doing strategies or stages classified in the Readjustment stage (adaptation phase), and Resolution (resolution / adjustment phase), based on resolution or the final results carried out by Manggarai students were, full participation, where they began to be friends with Kupang City students, and acted as if they were students from Kupang City. Finally, the meaning of students from Manggarai about the status of migrant students in Kota Kupang is based on the Phenomenology Theory in which the knowledge underlying the meaning is obtained through direct experience of students from Manggarai, namely: migrant students as change makers for a better life in the future, and migrant students as science fighter.

Abstract

Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah Untuk mengetahui motif penggunaan Facebook oleh Pegawai Honorer Di Laboratorium Pengujian Dinas Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat Prov NTT, dan Untuk mengetahui persepsi penggunaan Facebook oleh Pegawai Honorer di Laboratorium Pengujian Dinas Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat Prov NTT.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Fenomenologi Komunikasi. Dimana pengalaman adalah hal utama seseorang memberikan makna terhadap suatu benda dalam hal ini facebook.Informan yang di ambil berupa sebagian Pegawai Honorer Pada Laboratorium Pengujian Dinas (PUPR) yang menggunakanfacebook. Motif pegawai honorer pada Dinas PUPR prov NTT menggunakan facebook berbeda berdasarkan atas kebutuhan mereka akan informasi, komunikasi dan hiburan. Facebook dianggap dapat memenuhi kebutuhan mereka untuk dapat bertukar informasi, komunikasi dan hiburan. Presepsi peggunaan facebook sebagai jejaring social dinilai cukup efektif karena dapat memenuhi kebutuhan penggunanya. Facebook dinilai cukup menarik dan memberikan dampak positif bagi penggunanya.
