Abstract

The lack of excitement for training students' speaking abilities is at the root of the problem in this study. Researchers are curious about: 1) This English Tutor exercise provides an incentive for students to practice speaking English. 2) Students' conduct or effort in practicing speaking English through English Tutor activities, attitudes, interests, values, or desires The design of this study is descriptive-quantitative. Creswell (2012: 13) describes quantitative research as defining a research challenge based on trends in the field or the need to explain why something occurs. According to the study's findings, 1) the learner's effort in practicing speaking English among ILP students is 63% or higher, and 2) the students'' interest in practicing speaking English is 37%. 3) 47% of learners have a positive attitude regarding English-speaking practice. 4) The student has a 50% motivation to practice speaking English. The following are the findings: 1) Having a variety of learning activities and subjects available is beneficial for increasing motivation and offering opportunity for concept exploration. 2) To avoid monotony, vary the tactics employed in the learning process. 3) Rewarding and encouraging students who can successfully express themselves in English. 4) Making the classroom an inviting atmosphere.

Abstract

This research aims to describe gender equality in the narratives and illustrations contained in the integrated thematic books for class I students in the 2013 curriculum in elementary schools. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data collection methods used were literature study, observation, documentation and note taking. In data processing, we use a qualitative approach using Nature theory and semantics. Based on the results of the research and discussions that have been carried out, it can be concluded that the substance of the book's content contains gender inequality. Gender inequality is reflected through illustrative images and story text which fall into three categories, namely (1) Gender inequality in trait values, (2) Gender inequality in work roles, and (3) Gender inequality in hobbies. Each category depicts a woman who is feminine, weak, irrational, emotional and plays a lot of roles in domestic matters. Women are not in an equal position with men who have a masculine attitude and are able to play a role in public matters. Gender bias can influence student teaching and learning activities, such as: using appropriate methods that involve all students, classroom management such as assigning seats to the class teacher, dividing them randomly without looking at the gender and achievement of the students and changing them once a month so that students don't feel bored. and student interactions, especially those that occur outside the classroom, involve interactions between students. Male students usually play with members of the same gender, while female students also play with female friends to make it easier for students to choose the games they play

Abstract

To better prepare students for the demands of the twenty-first century, the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia incorporates character education into a range of educational courses. English as a foreign language, teachers can select the chosen learning approach for their students—which might require using critical thinking skills—by using digital interactive media like Edpuzzle. This study's goal was to evaluate how digital interactive media like Edpuzzle were used in online English as a foreign language (EFL) classes and how it affected the students' critical thinking abilities. In order to help students enhance their critical thinking abilities in the context of problem-solving related to various learning styles, this project intends to create digital media based on character values. The 4-D approach was used in this product development study (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The digital interactive media Edpuzzle obtained a total average score of 3.60 based on the validation from the material expert and a score of 3.50 based on the evidence from the media expert, indicating that the study's findings are correct. 92% of the eighth-graders reactions were positive, per the assessments. Active learning during the teaching process also causes the students to feel positive emotions. Students can also develop their ability to think critically by speaking out in class and having meaningful debates with their classmates

Abstract

Perception is the process through which we assess others, focusing on the aspects of human behavior we choose to observe. This study delves into the perception of students' ambitious attitudes, an area still shrouded in debate over whether such ambition is beneficial or detrimental within student circles. We conduct a comprehensive analysis of this topic through literature reviews and support it with social judgment theory, which explores the "ego involvement" in an individual's interactions with others. This overarching view guides our examination of a common yet potentially significant psychological phenomenon among students. Sociopsychology, a branch of communication theory grounded in psychological (behavioral) evaluation, provides insight into the psychological orientation of information assessment. This approach in sociopsychological communication studies helps us understand why individuals act as they do, not just through their words but also through non-verbal actions such as tone of voice, body movement, and facial expressions.

Abstract

Being literate is not merely able to read and write a language. Schools and classes are calling themselves as having a literacy program so as to facilitate their students with literacy behaviors. Hence, students are mostly literate only with the materials from school. They tend to read and act like literate students at school where the teachers are around. However, whether they are truly literate through other literacy behaviors is another question to ask and will be answered in this article. As seen that the purpose of this article is to know whether students considered themselves as literate students as well as to describe their literacy behaviors. It is stated earlier that literacy behaviors are not only related to reading and writing, whereas those will be stated more clearly in this article. The target respondents of this article to fulfill the data were the English Education Study Program students of Universitas PGRI Wiranegara. They were given an online questionnaire and answered several questions related to their knowledge and self-evaluation about literate and literacy behaviors. The result shows that they are aware of being literate students and, interestingly, they have various subjects and activities referred to literacy behaviors. Through realizing the students’ literacy behaviors, teachers/lecturers will be able to design certain materials and assignments which are in the area of students’ comfort as well as not neglecting the need for challenges.

Abstract

This research paper investigates the benefits of integrating multimodal literacy into English teaching practices. Multimodal literacy refers to the ability to comprehend and create meaning using multiple modes of communication, such as visuals, auditory elements, and digital technologies. The study aims to explore how incorporating multimodal approaches can enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in English classrooms. Drawing on recent research and educational theories, this paper examines the theoretical underpinnings of multimodal literacy and its potential impact on language acquisition. The research employs a qualitative approach, including classroom observations, interviews, and student feedback, to gather data and provide insights into the effectiveness of multimodal literacy strategies. The findings contribute to the understanding of innovative teaching practices that promote student engagement, critical thinking, and communication skills in English language learning contexts.
