Abstract

In Chinese language, there are subcategories of nouns that can act as descriptions, namely locative nouns, place nouns, and time nouns. The description in the sentence is before or after the subject so that the structure of the Chinese sentence starts from the adverbial, subject, predicate, object or subject, adverbial, predicate, object. In the learning process, language errors are unavoidable. Language errors can be used as research material to support language learning. This study aims to identify errors that arise in the use (sentence structure and diction) of locative nouns, place, and time as descriptions in Chinese sentences by 2017 students of the Chinese Language Education Study Program. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods. Research data were obtained through test instruments in the form of translation questions, filling in gaps, and arranging words. Research is limited to sentence structure errors and diction errors. The results showed that the error rate of using locative nouns, place, and time as adverbial in Chinese sentences was at a very low level. The percentage of sentence structure errors for translation questions is 4.8%, the percentage of diction errors for questions filling in gaps is 12.4%, and the percentage of word-composing questions is divided into two, namely sentence structure errors as much as 12.7%; diction error as much as 1.08%. The results of this study are expected to be input for teachers when teaching locative noun material, place and time as information.

Abstract

In developing reading skills teaching materials, it is necessary to have reading texts as support. These reading texts were chosen not only because of their vocabulary corresponds to the level of the teaching materials, but also because they are qualified reading texts. One of the criteria for a good reading text is that it contains moral values ​​such as folklore books. This study has several objectives to find out the moral values ​​contained in the story book Kuafu Zhui Ri namely: (1) contains the core form of Confucius' teachings of Ai ren, (2) shows the principles of implementing the teachings of Confucius of Xiaodi, (3) shows the stages of implementing the teachings of Confucius of Zhong and Shu. The data in this study are limited to Chinese sentences in stories that contain moral values. The entire data is classified based on the core form, the principle of implementation and the stages of implementing moral values ​​according to the teachings of Confucius. The findings in this study are that the folklore of Kuafu Zhui Ri contains the moral values ​​of Confucius' teachings, which consist of (1) loving others, (2) filial piety, and (3) loyalty and forgiveness. Based on the research findings, it is hoped that the Kuafu Zhui Ri folklore can be applied in the world of education and used as a reference or input by the UNJ Mandarin Language Education Study Program when choosing reading texts in the development of textbooks for reading skills.

Abstract

Cengbeng Prayer is a tradition of praying to ancestral graves that has been carried out since the Jin dynasty (265-420 AD). On the day of the Cengbeng prayer, which has become a tradition, families of Chinese descent go to the graves of their parents or ancestors to clean and pray there. Especially in Singkawang, the Cengbeng prayer is performed twice a year, namely the second month and seventh month of the lunar calendar (阴历). This study aims to find out the reasons for the preservation of the thousand-year- old Cengbeng prayer, what thoughts are behind it. The method used is interviews with people who perform the Cengbeng prayer. Data were obtained from answers to questions given during interviews. The data was analyzed using the teachings of Confucius 孝 and 家 to get an idea about the preservation of this Cengbeng prayer. Data is presented descriptively and qualitatively with simple quantitative calculations through graphs. There were eight informants, still under 40 years old. This research is field research that uses the philosophical teachings of Confucianism in its analysis. The results of the analysis show that the teachings of Confucius "filial piety" and "family" permeate quite deeply in families of Chinese descent so that the Cengbeng pray is still carried out in modern times. It is the desire to remember the kindness of the ancestors that can make the person who prays present in the world. This "devotion" includes the notion of "family" which is based on lineage. The novelty of this research is to examine the Cengbeng pray from a philosophical point of view.

Abstract

In the midst of teachers and students’ effort to adapt to the era of technological disruption and global competition, the Covid-19 pandemic has become a catalyst for learning models changing all over the world. The Chinese Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts, State University of Jakarta (PSPBM FBS UNJ) is also developing online distance learning. This paper mainly discusses the evaluation of the implementation of online distance learning for speaking skills at PSPBM UNJ, including the learning media used, the obstacles faced and how online distance learning affects the motivation of students. This study uses quantitative and qualitative methods through surveys and qualitative analysis in the discussion. Respondents are students and lecturers of PSPBM. This evaluation research is the basis for further research on the development of an online distance learning model for Chinese language speaking skills. The results of this research can be integrated into consideration for policy makers in determining the policies needed to improve the quality of learning; can also be a very important input for course instructors so that they can think more creatively and provide solutions in realizing interesting, efficient, and useful lecture activities for students; as well as being input and consideration for the general public who are related to online distance learning in determining the various attitudes needed to improve the quality of online distance learning.

Abstract

Abstract: The Covid-19 pandemic has become one of the catalysts for learning models changes around the world, including Mandarin Language Education Study Program Faculty of Languages ​​and Arts, State University of Jakarta also adapted online distance learning.This article focuses on online distance learning evaluation of basic reading skills courses held at PSPBM UNJ. The scopes of this research are the learning media used, technical constraints and efforts to overcome, and how online distance learning affects students motivation.This research uses quantitative and qualitative methods, by conducting surveys, and using qualitative analysis in the discussion. This research instrument is a mixed questionnaire, which is a combination of open and closed questionnaires using google form. Respondents are PSPBM students and lecturers. This research data are information related to media, obstacles and efforts, also motivation.The results of this research are reading skills online distance learning reading skills used several learning media, such Whatsapp, Zoom, Google Classroom, online game applications. The use of learning media encourage lecturers creativity to choose and use appropriate learning models. In addition, online distance learning also demands student independence in learning. There is a student-centered learning model using project-based learning (such as audio/video recordings of reading words, phrases, sentences, texts) and problem-based learning (such as reading comprehension, discussion) which can be implemented in learning reading skills.

Abstract

Pandemi telah mengubah wajah pendidikan dunia dan model pembelajaran di seluruh dunia. Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin (PSPBM) Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FBS UNJ) juga turut mengembangkan pembelajaran daring. Model pembelajaran yang dimaksud tentu saja harus mempertimbangkan karakteristik peserta didik, capaian pembelajaran serta situasi dan kondisi lainnya. Tulisan ini membahas mengenai evaluasi terhadap pelaksanaan PJJ daring mata kuliah keterampilan menulis di PSPBM UNJ, mencakupi media pembelajaran yang digunakan, kendala yang dihadapi serta bagaimana PJJ daring memengaruhi motivasi peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif melalui survey dan analisis kualitatif pada pembahasannya. Responden yaitu mahasiswa dan dosen PSPBM. Penelitian yang bersifat evaluasi ini merupakan dasar penelitian selanjutnya mengenai pengembangan model PJJ daring keterampilan menulis bahasa Mandarin. Hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi bahan pertimbangan bagi para pemangku kebijakan dalam menentukan kebijakan yang diperlukan bagi peningkatan mutu pembelajaran; juga dapat menjadi masukan yang sangat penting bagi pengampu mata kuliah agar dapat berpikir lebih kreatif dan solutif dalam mewujudkan kegiatan perkuliahan yang menarik, efisien, dan bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa peserta didik; serta menjadi masukan dan bahan pertimbangan bagi masyarakat umum yang memiliki keterkaitan dengan PJJ daring dalam menentukan berbagai sikap yang diperlukan bagi peningkatan mutu PJJ daring.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has become a catalyst for changing learning models around the world, including the Mandarin Language Education Program (PSPBM) Faculty of Languages ​​and Arts, State University of Jakarta (FBS UNJ) which has also changed from a conventional (face-to-face) learning model to online distance learning.When the pandemic has ended, back to face-to-face learning in the classroom may be faced with the problem of limited time and space. Current technological developments can be considered and utilized as a solution, by developing online distance learning.One aspect that need to be considered on Developing online distance learning is the aspect of utilizing online applications that are used in learning activities. This article will specifically describe the results of research on the use of online applications in online distance learning activities during the pandemic for Mandarin Grammar Courses at PSPBM FBS UNJ.This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data was obtained through interviews with supporting lecturers. Through this research, information was obtained that the online applications used were Whatsapp, Zoom, and Google Classroom. It is hoped that the explanation of the utilization, selection considerations, and the supervisor's views on these three applications can be considered by who will or who are developing online distance learning.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has made the education world adapt rapidly. During this pandemic era, the face-to-face learning is avoided and distance learning (PJJ) is adaptively applied at various levels of education, neither formal nor non-formal. In its implementation, distance learning is institutional-based learning activity and is a part of formal education, so it has different forms and tools differ from so called self-taught learning. More over, educational interactions between teachers and students are carried out at a distance apart. Necessarily, distance learning should be implemented with careful planning and preparation. Considering the fact that most of the distance learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic were carried out suddenly and without prior planning, this paper is expected to provide input to the organizers of this sudden distance learning. This paper provides a description of PJJ, including types of PJJ, PJJ teaching materials, and PJJ constellations.

Abstract

This study was conducted using a semiotic approach to the Betawi women's kebaya encim. The purpose of this article is to examine the Kebaya Encim Betawi which is the kebaya icon of DKI Jakarta province. What is studied is its uniqueness in the form of models, colors, accessories, and the meanings contained behind each component of this Betawi encim kebaya. This study uses a semiotic approach from Charles S. Peirce which was later developed by Ogden & Richards (1923). This study uses qualitative data obtained through library sources in the form of books, research that has been done by other researchers, research journals, articles, and websites. This article reveals that the model, color, and accessories of the kebaya encim have an important and distinctive meaning, which makes it a symbol or icon that shows the elegance and honor of Betawi women.

Abstract

Polysemy is a lexeme that has a number of related meanings. Lexeme qi is a polysemous lexeme in Chinese. This research is aimed to determine and explain the components of meaning shared by lexeme qi’s meanings. It is also to determine the contributions of meaning in the lexeme’s compound words. The research method used is the descriptive qualitative method and Nida’s Theory of Componential Analysis of Meaning (1975) is used for data analysis. The data used are the lexeme qi’s 11 meanings and 16 of its compound words from Xiandai Hanyu Cidian Dictionary (2016). In conclusion, it is discovered that there are two common components shared by the 11 meanings of the lexeme qi, namely, [+action] and [+change of state]. Furthermore, there are only 7 meanings of the lexeme qi that is represented in the 16 compound words studied.
