Abstract

Abstract. The emergence of various mosque designs today enriches the repertoire of Indonesian architecture. This is due to differences in the understanding of the community and precedents related to Islamic architecture. This phenomenon results in differing perceptions of the physical identity of mosques, including those in Banda Aceh. This research aims to understand the perceptions of UIN Ar-Raniry students regarding the physical identity of mosques in Banda Aceh. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents. The research results indicate that respondents consider domes as the identity of a mosque. However, respondents do not see the presence of minarets and the use of ornaments as the identity of mosques in Banda Aceh. Despite the small percentages, another important finding is that a small number of respondents believe that the use of domes, ornaments, and minarets is not a necessity in mosque design.

Abstract

Abstract. The college library is a place for students to be used as a science-based recreation area. To fulfill this, a comfort is needed for visitors, especially students, to feel at home and feel / want to continue to linger while in the library. Wicaksana (2016) defines comfort as a relaxed condition, where pain is not felt between all limbs. Factors from the interior of the library also greatly influence students to feel more comfortable when they are in the room in the library. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of user comfort when in the UIN Ar-R aniry library room, especially in the reading area / room which includes lighting, air, and sound efficiency (acoustic) factors. This research uses qualitative methods with descriptive data analysis methods (data coding) and calculations based on the results of questionnaires (Likert scale), observation, and documentation. The results showed that the average visitor was a student of UIN Ar-Raniry and chose to visit in groups, with a frequency of visits ranging from 1 to 3 visits, and a visit time of less than or for 2 hours. Serta prefers to visit during the day (14.00 WIB) to afternoon (16.30 WIB). Common activities are doing assignments or looking for references with the reading room as the most visited area. Based on open questions to respondents and has been categorized, the comfort factor is the reason users want to stay longer in the UIN Ar-Raniry library. Respondent also feels comfortable in terms of lighting and air both naturally and artificially. But for the noise level, occasionally respondents feel a little disturbed due to the sound generated from other users' activities.

Abstract

Abstract. Mosques are works of Islamic architecture that are closest to our everyday life. Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng is located in West Aceh, and is one of the mosques that can represent the development of ancient Indonesian mosque architecture from time to time. Visually, Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng shows many similarities with other ancient mosques in Indonesia. Eventhough Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng has been designated as a cultural heritage site by the Aceh Cultural Heritage Conservation Center, in-depth studies about Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng is still difficult to get, both from either architectural or historical perspective. This research aims to identify the characteristics of ancient Indonesian mosques that can be found at Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng. The implementation of this research also has the purpose to support and give contribution towards the efforts to preserve Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng’s cultural heritage site. This research uses qualitative descriptive method and is exploratory in nature. Data collection techniques in this research were carried out using observation and interview methods. The results of this research shows that there are several characteristics of ancient Indonesian mosques that can be found in Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng, namely the shape of the plan, foundation, roof, mihrab and porch. There are also several characteristics that are not relevant to Masjid Tuha Gunong Kleng, namely the fence dividing the mosque area, location, Qibla direction, and quality of mosque construction.

Abstract

Abstract. A house as a shelter for the occupants requires ventilation, both natural and artificial, to achieve thermal comfort. Openings allow air to circulate in and out of the building, thus affecting the humidity and temperature of the building. The research was located in the Type 36 Mutiara Baet Residence housing complex, in Baet Village, Baitussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency. The case study is a house facing west, east, north, and south which has openings without direct sunlight. Using a mixed method research method, which combines qualitative and quantitative models. Qualitative methods are carried out using documentation, interviews, and observation. while the quantitative method is carried out through measurements of humidity, wind speed, and temperature. Interview results showed that 70% of building occupants said that the residence they lived in felt hot so it was uncomfortable to be indoors without mechanical cooling, while the existing openings could not be maximized for natural ventilation as intended. The remaining 30% of respondents thought that openings could help reduce heat. The results of thermal measurements, the average temperature in the living room was 30.93°C, while the average temperature in the kitchen room was 30.99°C. The results of measuring the average humidity (RH%) in the living room was 46.40% and the average humidity (RH%) in the kitchen room was 46.18%. Only 20% of residential living rooms and kitchens in Mutiara Baet Residence have wind circulation, while in the other 80% of residences, the detected wind speed is 0.0 m/s, which means there is no wind movement/circulation
