Abstract

In multicultural societies like Indonesia, differences across various aspects indicate that each individual holds a unique perspective on diversity. These diverse viewpoints have the potential to lead to misunderstandings among ethnicities, religions, and cultures, which can result in conflicts. This study aims to analyze the integration of multicultural education in history learning. The research method employed is qualitative with a case study approach, involving informants selected through purposive sampling. Data collection includes observations, interviews, and documentation using interview sheets and questionnaires. Data analysis is conducted descriptively and qualitatively. The research findings indicate that multicultural integration in history learning strives to synchronize teaching methods by considering differences such as gender, social status, religion, race, and language. History teachers incorporate multicultural values like tolerance, pluralism, humanism, and democracy into their lessons. In conclusion, multicultural education is a crucial concept that history teachers must grasp to impart deep multicultural values to students, fostering a high level of tolerance in their communities and surroundings.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the epistemological contribution of Critical Theory in developing a more inclusive and just understanding of knowledge. The main focus is to examine the ways in which concepts such as double consciousness, situated knowledge, and critical reflexivity can help overcome biases and limitations in established knowledge narratives and open up space for alternative voices. The research method used is a literature review by identifying, selecting, analysing, and synthesising literature sources relevant to this topic. The results show that the concept of double consciousness introduced by W.E.B Du Bois places an important emphasis on recognising plural perspectives in knowledge production, especially from marginalised groups. Furthermore, situated knowledge proposed by Donna Haraway offers a solution to overcome bias by emphasising that knowledge is always situated in a particular social, cultural and political context. Finally, critical reflexivity is seen as an important practice to uncover the ideological and political interests hidden behind established knowledge narratives. This research recommends the need for further investigation on how these concepts can be operationalised in research and educational practices to create a more inclusive and transformative epistemology. In addition, empirical investigations on the impact of applying these concepts are also needed to understand the challenges and opportunities in the effort to develop more equitable and diverse knowledge.

Abstract

In recent years, many students have faced limitations in their career options, despite the critical importance of determining their future careers. This study aims to identify and analyze factors influencing students’ career choices at the high school level. The method employed is a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis of three different students. The research findings indicate that several significant factors influence students’ career choices, including special talents and intelligence, career interests, personality, as well as family background and socio-economic status. These findings underscore the complexity of adolescents’ career decision-making processes, where both internal and external factors play crucial roles. Thus, it can be concluded that factors influencing students’ career choices stem from individuals’ internal factors and the influence of their family environment. The implications of this research highlight the importance of educational and familial support in assisting students in choosing careers that align with their potentials and interests.
