Abstract

ABSTRACT Research and development are aimed at developing the student's Activity sheet-based discovery learning  in the activity of learning the material tissue structure and function in plants grade XI high school. The development model used was ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subject of the test is 10 students of Class XI IPA InsanCendekia Islamic Senior High School Jambi. The data type on the data of the research was the qualitative and quantitative data. Research on data collection instrument a question form (questionnaire). Data analysis technique used is qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis using the rating scale choice response scale of four. The results of the development of products that have already developed validated by media expert with percentage 76,25% by category very well done one time revision and worksheets students deserve tested by appropriate revision suggestions. While the results of the validation material experts retrieved the percentage of 85% category 2 times with very good revision and worksheets students deserve tested by appropriate revision suggestions. Furthermore, the results of tests obtained by the percentage of the small group of 83.25% belong to the category of very good. Based on these results it can be concluded that the product of the student worksheet-based discovery of social interactions, developed very decent used in biology learning activities in schools or learning independently.   Keyword: student’s activity sheet, discovery

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study was to analyze the students' critical thinking skills through problem-based learning on the concept of an environmental pollution in the city of Jambi SMAN 5 academic year 2015/2016. This research is a descriptive study. The study was conducted on 2 January to 25 February 2015. The research subjects were selected using random sampling techniques as many as 40 students from class X MIA 7. Data is collected using observation sheets, sheet questionnaires, and interviews. This study describes the results of observation sheets, the results of the questionnaire and interview sheet. Overall average high school students' critical thinking skills N 5 Jambi through problem-based learning on the concept of environmental pollution is high. The results obtained from the five indicators critical thinking skills which gives a simple explanation was obtained by 77% of the analytical results of observation, and 83% of the results of questionnaire analysis. Indicators build basic skills gained as much as 77% of the analytical results of observation and 81% of the results of questionnaire analysis, concluded indicator gained as much as 81% of the analytical results of observation and 82% of the results of questionnaire analysis. Indicators provide further explanation was obtained by 82%, from the analysis of observation, and 83% of the results of questionnaire analysis. Indicators set the strategy and tactics gained as much as 81% of the analytical results of observation and 84% of the results of questionnaire analysis. Results of interviews with teachers show that the learning process biology students have used critical thinking skills. Conclusions from this research is the critical thinking skills of students during learning activities in this study in the category of high ability.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Emotional intelligence (Emotional Quotient) is an extra skill of an individual to motivate him or herself, to survive from a failure, to control the emotion, to hold over the comfort state of life, and to manage his or her soul. So, one of the important factors that influence the students’ success in learning is the emotional intelligence. This descriptive-quantitative study was aimed to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the students’ learning outcomes at the Basic and Process of Biology Students 2 Course of odd semester in the academic year 2014/2015. The population of the study was the third semester students. The emotional intelligence data were collected through a questionnaire in the form of statements. Data analysis techniques to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and learning outcomes were conducted through statistical testing using simple linear regression. The results showed that the average emotional intelligence of the students obtained was 2.84 with a scale range between 2.00 to 2.99 which means that the value is low, and the emotional intelligence data frequency distribution of the students were 18.4% higher, 66.23% moderate, and 15.37% lower. Moreover, the scores of the emotional intelligence questionnaire and the students’ learning outcomes formed a linear model Y=61. 03+0.133X. Further, the correlation analysis between the emotional intelligence and the learning outcomes showed that r count have a correlation between variables X and Y with the value of r count =0.177 and the scores of t count > t table or 2.318 > 1.96 at 95% of the confidence level were indicating a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and learning outcomes.   Keyword: Emotional Intelligence and learning outcomes

Abstract

Standards learning competency plant taxonomy is, students can understand and explain the principles of classification, description, identification, nomenclature, and knowing the morphological and anatomical structure of plants. Students can achieve competence learning if the student successfully mastered the material plant taxonomy. The absence of appropriate learning media to optimize students' understanding of the taxonomy of plant material can cause difficulties or obstacles for students to understand the material plant taxonomy. Therefore, the development of instructional media in the form of Pteridisc needs to be done. The purpose of this study was to determine the end product of learning media Pteridisc on the subject of Pteridophyta and to determine the response students of Biology Education PMIPA FKIP University of  jambi to use as a learning medium Pteridisc plant taxonomy. Based on the results obtained validation, assessment for each indicator on the design aspects of the media were on both criteria with the average percentage of 75%, and ratings for the indicators on the material aspects of the media are on the criterion of good and very good, with a mean percentage of 86, 7%. Student responses to assessment of each indicator in the trial against the use of a small group of media currently on the criteria very well with the average of the responses given percentage 94.23%, and student responses to assessment of each indicator in a large group trials are in very good criteria with the average percentage of 87.82%. It can be concluded that the instructional media products Pteridisc subject Pteridophyta included in the criteria very well, so it can be used by the student in learning activities.   Keywords: development, instructional media, taxonomy Pteridophyta

Abstract

The humans’ respiratory system is one of the material subject biology in eight grades of junior high school. Human respiratory system material requires an understanding of the concept. The use of interactive multimedia is one way to presenting the material. Based on the observation in SMP 24 Jambi found that the students are difficult to understand the material because the teacher is not optimal in using the media. Therefore, the teachers need a learning media to describe the material. Interactive multimedia flash can be used as the media. The purpose of this research is to develop and to know the students responses in the multimedia interactive learning material on the human respiratory system for junior high school in VIII class using Adobe Flash Professional Cs6. This research is the development research. The research design in this study follows the ADDIE development model.ADDIE development model has five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Before the multimedia product tested it will be validate by the expert to determine the feasibility of the product, the team experts are material expert and media expert. The result of the validation from material expert obtained 87.1 % score with very good categories and the result of the validation from media expert obtained 80% score with good categories. The students’ response to the media for small group is in very good category with of 87.8% and for large group is classified in very well category with 87.1%. Based on the result, the conclusion this study is the multimedia interactive learning on the material of the human respiratory system got a very good response from the students. Multimedia interactive learning on the material in the human respiratory system can help the teacher in the learning process and can be used as self-learning that students can use at school and outside school hours.

Abstract

This research to increase motivation and learning outcomes of students  Biology Education semester VB at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang Environmental Sciences courses through the implementation of Project Based Learning combined-based Lesson Study Group Investigation. This research is Classroom Action Research. The research approach used is qualitative approach, consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisting of the stages of the action plan, action, observation, and reflection. The approach taken is a qualitative descriptive approach.               The results showed that the application of PjBL combined GI can increase student motivation to learn. Attention components increased by 3.6%, Relevance components increased by 6.3%, Convidence component increased by 9.1%, while the component Satisfaction increased by 2%. Student learning outcomes also increased. Students who got an A increased from 29.3% in Cycle I to 48.8% in Cycle II. Students who receive a grade of B + indicates the number remains, which amounted to 46.3%. In connection with that then, the percentage of students who scored B fell from 24.4% in Cycle I to 4.9% in Cycle II. Based on the results concluded that the application of learning models  PjBL combined GI can increase student motivation and learning outcomes. It is therefore advisable to adopt a Biology professor model PjBL combined GI by Lesson Study because it has been shown to increase motivation and cognitive learning outcomes of students. Keywords: Project Based Learning, Group Investigation, Lesson Study, motivation, and Learning Outcome.

Abstract

The card quartet Kingdom Animalia is a card designed with pictures of animals and contain a description of the characteristics of each class that in the Kingdom Animalia. While learning model Team Games Tournament (TGT) is a model student-centered learning, in which students were invited to perform game containing a predetermined competition rules. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of card usage quartet with learning model (TGT) in the competency test understanding of the material and Animal Taxonomy Percentage student activity during the learning with TGT model took place. The research method using Quasi Experimental Design, where the experimental class and control class is not treated the same as has been formed since the beginning of learning. The results showed that the average value of understanding on animal taxonomy material is higher (6.9) than the control class (4.5). Processing of data by non-parametric statistics (Mann-Whitney U) shows the use of cards that quartet combined with TGT learning model the experimental class provides a very significant influence on the level of 95%. So is the percentage (%) activity in the experimental class (95%) higher than the control class (30%). Based on these results it can be concluded that the use of cards quartet with TGT model material effect on the understanding of the taxonomy of animals and can stimulate the activity of students in the learning process in SMA N 8 Jambi. Abstract

Abstract. This research is included for Research and Development, to produce products such as android-based learning media. The model that is used is the development of ADDIE development model. ADDIE development model has some stages which are Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluations. Validated products by an expert team who is consisting of media experts and expert material. Subjects of tests are high school students Number 5 Jambi who are 12 students. Validation results by media experts are classified into the excellent category (83.33%) and validation results by experts are also classified into the category of material which are very good (83.33%). After doing further revisions, media is tested in small groups. Small group trial conducted high school students Number 5 Jambi who are 12 students. Based on the overall results of media analysis, media classified as excellent category (85.83%), which means a decent media is used as a medium of learning media. Learning media can be used as a learning tool that can be used independently by students.   Keywords: Learning Media, Android, Eclipse Galileo, Plantae.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The objectives of this research were to explain the influence of RT strategy towards critical thinking. Quasi-expermental with Pretest-Postest Nonequivalent Control Group Design was used in this research. The independent variable was teaching strategy (reciprocal teaching). The dependent variable was metacognitive competence, critical thinking, and the understanding of concept. The population of this research was all of the students of grade X of SMAI Al Ma’arif singosari, Malang. The sample of this research was the students of grade X-1 as an experimental group and the students of X-4 as a control group. Critical thinking was measured by an essay test. The validity and the reliability of the instruments were firstly tested. The data were taken in pretest-posttest. Anakova was used in the hypothesis test with the significance level 0.05 (P<0.05). The results of this research showed that teaching strategies influenced critical thinking. Regarding with the potential of RT, it is suggested that this strategy could be implemented so that students’ competencies, besides cognitive domain, could be empowered Key words: Reciprocal Teaching, critical thinking

Abstract

ABSTRACT. This study aims to determine students' critical thinking skills across an interest in learning biology class X IIS SMA 11 Jambi. The design of this research is descriptive research with quantitative and qualitative research methods. Sources of data in this research is observation sheet, self-assessment questionnaires and assessment questionnaires among students. The results showed the students' critical thinking abilities viewed from 5 critical aspects of forward- thinking that provide a simple explanation of 56.34%, 69.79% Developing basic skills, Summing up 63.66%, 59.69% providing further explanation, set the strategy and tactics 69, 84%. Based on the observation of the students' critical thinking skills that are in the interest of cross criterion was 7.5%, and 92.5% higher. And based on self-assessment questionnaires, critical thinking ability of students is at a low 2.5% criterion, was 37.5%, 32.5% high, very high 27.5%. Based on the assessment questionnaire among students, students' thinking skills are the criteria were 70%, 20%, very high 7.5% and 2.5% lower. This study concluded that the level of critical thinking skills of students cross an interest in learning biology class X IIS SMA 11 Jambi are on average medium and High criteria. Based on this study suggested needs teacher effort in improving students 'critical thinking by using the right strategies that can foster students' critical thinking skills.
