Abstract

The research was done in Baluran National Park, Banyuwangi East Java in April to June 2004. The objectives of this research were: to determine of species composition, importance value of species, diversity index and evenness index, similarity index, distribution pattern of species, and species association. This research used the quadrat method. The determination of the species distribution was calculated using Poisson distribution formula and the determination of association was calculated using contingency table. The results of this research indicated that,  there were 20 species of  plant belong to 8 familiy. The importance value was between 0,42-59,54, and species with high importance value is Oplismenus burmanii, Axonopus compressus, and Synedrella nudiflora. The diversity index was between 1,3329-2,5271, and evenness index was between 1,5364-1,9848. The distribution pattern of species indicated that 12 species were  clumped, 6 species reguler, and 2 species were at random.  The multi-plants tend to have a clumped distribution pattern, and single plant tend to have a reguler or random distribution pattern. Abstract

Information about the condition of the elephants at the Elephant Conservation Center (PKG) Saree, Aceh Besar, related to elephant care that can affect the level of animal welfare. This research aims to identify caregiving conditions of Sumatran Elephant in the PKG Saree, Aceh Besar accordance with the level of animal welfare in the environment of domestication. Study of condition of elephant care using 18 variable that refers to the five principles of animal welfare shoppers. This data is used in applicable data primary and secondary data. Primary data collected through triangulation: participatory observation, structured interviews, and documentation. The data obtained is then compiled using the Likert scale took place applies appropriate answer (score 3), lack of appropriate (score 2), and is not appropriate (score 1). Data analysis techniques using Model Miles and Huberman. Abstract

Aging is associated with a decrease in somatotropin or growth hormone (GH) secretion by anterior pituitary. Somatotropin affects the growth of somatic cells. The objective of this experiment was to study the effects of somatotropin suplementation on body performances of aged male rats. The experimental rats were assigned into a  randomized block design with a factorial arrangement. The first factor was age with 2 levels (6 months and 1 year).The second factor was dosage of somatotropin injection with 2 levels (0 and 9 mg/kg BW day). The third factor was the duration of somatotropin  injection with 2 levels (3 and 6 weeks). The fourth factor was time of slaughtering after somatotropin injection with 2 levels (1 and 14 days). Parameters measured were body weight, food consumption, total protein, total fat. The result showed that somatotropin has significant effects on body weight, food consumption, total protein, total fat.  It is concluded that somatotropin can body performance of six-months and one-year old male rats.

Abstract

Selama ini kualitas pisang sale di Aceh masih belum memuaskan konsumen. Perlu adanya upaya memperbaiki mutu pisang sale misalnya melalui peningkatan kualitas pengasapannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji performansi alat pengasap tipe rak pada pengolahan pisang sale dengan menggunakan  bahan bakar  biomassa. Sebuah alat pengasap pisang sale dirancang dengan 2 bahagian yang masing-masing mempunyai 7 buah rak. Alat pengasap ini diuji dengan variasi 3 jenis bahan bakar yaitu kayu bakar, kayu bakau dan tempurung kelapa. Proses pengasapan dilakukan sampai kadar air maksimal 18%. Parameter analisis meliputi temperatur dan kelembaban relatif ruang pengasapan, kapasitas kerja alat, rendemen, kadar air, karbohidrat, vitamin C dan uji organoleptik terhadap karakteristik bentuk, warna, bau, rasa dan tekstur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa temperatur dan kelembaban relatif ruang pengasap ketika alat menggunakan bahan bakar tempurung lebih baik dari bahan bakar kayu. Hal ini mengakibatkan waktu yang diperlukan untuk pengasapan pisang sale dan kapasitas kerja alat ketika alat pengasap menggunakan bahan bakar tempurung kelapa juga lebih singkat yaitu 10 jam dan 4 kg/jam. Perbedaan jenis bahan bakar tidak menyebabkan terjadinya perbedaan rendemen pisang sale. Kandungan karbohidrat pisang sale mengalami peningkatan setelah proses pengasapan menjadi 8,84%, 10,18%, dan  9,45%  masing-masing menggunakan bahan bakar kayu bakar, kayu bakau dan tempurung kelapa. Sedangkan kandungan vitamin C pisang sale mengalami penurunan menjadi 7,37 mg/100g (kayu bakar), 7,458 mg/100g (kayu bakau), dan 7,194 mg/100g (tempurung kelapa). Berdasarkan uji organoleptik, pisang sale yang proses pengasapannya menggunakan bahan bakar tempurung kelapa dan kayu bakau adalah yang paling disukai bentuk, warna, bau, rasa dan teksturnya.

Abstract

Antimicrobial activity of crude extracts and essential oil of Callistemon viminalis against several pathogenic bacteria and one yeast (Candida albicans) were assessed using sensitivity test and MIC determination test. Hexane extract showed the strongest antibacterial activity compared with other crude extracts. While essential oil of C. viminalis  in particular showed strong anticandidal activity. GC-MS analysis of crude hexane extract and essential oil have identified the presence of eucalyptol, α-pinene, α-phellandrene and D-limonene as active antimicrobial compounds in all analyzed samples.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang kajian potensi produk pirolisis limbah padat kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi produk pirolisis dari cangkang kelapa sawit. Cangkang kelapa sawit mula-mula dipirolisis menggunakan reaktor listrik merk Tube Furnance Type 21100 dan selanjutnya dengan reaktor drum.  Arang  yang diperoleh ditentukan rendemennya dan dikarakterisasi yang meliputi kadar air, abu, zat terbang, karbon terikat, nilai kalor, daya serap terhadap iodin, dan benzena. Struktur arang diidentifikasi dengan spektrometer Fourier Transform Infra Red dan Scanning Electron Microscopy. Cangkang kelapa sawit yang digunakan mengandung 10,58% air. Hasil pirolisis cangkang kelapa sawit pada reaktor listrik dengan suhu 300, 400, dan 500oC diperoleh secara berturut rata-rata rendemen arang 49,17; 42,21; 36,32 (%w/w) sedangkan pada reaktor drum diperoleh rata-rata rendemen arang 38,81 (%w/w). Hasil karakterisasi arang yang dipirolisis dengan reaktor listrik pada suhu 500oC mengandung 3,67% air, sedangkan dengan reaktor drum mengandung 5,33% air. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa peralatan yang dibuat dari bahan drum bekas dengan teknologi sederhana diberi nama reaktor drum dan telah terbukti dapat efektif digunakan sebagai reactor pirolisis pada pengolahan cangkang kelapa sawit.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to study character of A. nilotica includes morphology description, anatomy, and ecology (life cycle, spreading and seed production in BNP, stand structure, soil condition, and association of species). Research method used to know cycle life, spreading and seed production in BNP and the done conducted stand structure with direct perception in field. Produce seed used a square method having a nest counted 10 squares by using plastic. Obtained stand structure data with model is Permanent Square for the width of 20 x 20 m of counted 15 squares and at each square measured by a diameter and high counted 10 trees. Analysis of association used contingency table, and Influence of salinity to soil used result of laboratory analysis. Conclusion from this research are (1). There are six step life cycle of A. nilotica that is seed corps, seedling, juvenile, adult, flower, and seed in pod, (3). Stand structure of A. nilotica in BNP pertained as straightened age, (4). There are three of species positive association to A. nilotica is bayapan (Brachiria reptans), rumput gunung (Oplismenus burmanii), dan rumput kawat (Dactyloctenium aegyptium), (5). The analysis of soil fertility parameter indicates that there symptom of effect treatment salinity concentration at test soil, (6). Treatment salinity concentration has an effect to organ damage A. nilotica, specially on root, bark, and leaf. So that at 14 HST of most crop test has died the effect unable to tolerate tried treatment.

Abstract

The Use of Multiple Models in Environmental concepts in SMA Negeri 4 Bireuen. Research purpose is to know the process of learning outcomes through the use of Multi-model on the concept of Environment. The approach used was qualitative descriptive approach types of Class Actions. This study used two cycles with four components, namely planning (planning), action (acting), observation (observing) and reflection (reflecting). Subjects in this study were students in grade lesson X.1 2008/2009 amounted to 36 people. The instrument used was the test at the end of each cycle. To find out the improvement process and the thoroughness of learning, percentage formula is used. The results showed that 44, 44% who have attained completeness in cycle 1. Cycle II obtained by the thoroughness of 88.89%. Students generally respond positively to learning. It is suggested that the use of multiple models can be used on other concepts in the biology of learning to encourage students in learning.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of the methanol extract against bacteria Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and to measure its inhibition capacity. Phytochemical test and extraction were conducted at the Research Laboratory of Chemistry Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA). Antibacterial test was done at the Laboratory of Microbiology Department of Biological Science, University of  Syiah Kuala. The samples used leaves of H. rosa-sinensis collected from Gampong Sektor Timur, Darussalam.This study used completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatements and three replications namely; negative control using the solvent, extract test with  concentrations 0.2 g / mL, 0.3 g / mL, 0.4 g / mL, and  positive control using 30 µg linezolid. Phytochemical test showed that the fresh samples contain alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, and flavonoids, while the methanol extract contains alkaloids and flavonoids. Antibacterial test showed that the methanol extract have inhibited MRSA bacterial growth, with the average of inhibition zone was 15.90 mm at the concentration of 0.4 g / mL.

Abstract

Tea is the most consumed beverage after water and touted as a beverage rich in benefits. In addition to the benefits of tea, there are also substances contained in tea that result in less good for the body, the substance is caffeine. Amount of caffeine depending on the spesies, processing and brewing method. The research "Influence of Weight and Time Brewing on the Tea Caffeine " has been done since May to September 2012 at the Laboratory of Chemical FMIPA Unsyiah. The purpose of the research were to know the weight and time brewing on tea caffeine, and to know the weight and length of the maximum brewingon tea caffeine. The method used experimental design with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) 3 x 3 factorial pattern with three times replication. Two factors examined were heavy tea and tea brewing time. The weight was three level (tea weight 1 g, 2 g, and 3 g) and length of brewing also consists of three level (3 minutes, 6 minutes, and 9 minutes). Data was analyzed by ANOVA test followed by Duncan test. The results show that heavy tea was significant effect on the rate of caffeine, while time brewing was not significant. Similarly, the interaction between heavy with tea brewing time was not significant. The maximum weight and length of brewing were 3 grams and 9 minutes, which is 29,3214 mg (w/w).
