Abstract

This study highlighted the discrepancies of education outcomes in urban-suburban settings and the differences between the graduates of vocational high schools and general high schools from 2011 to 2016 in Erie County, New York State, United States. Erie was infamous for racial segregation and the discrepancy of school quality between urban, suburban, and rural areas. New York State Department of Education has invested efforts to improve the education outcomes of vocational and high school education in the region. However, the education outcome gap still existed between those schools. The data source was derived from the School Report Card from 2011 to 2016 published by New York State Department of Education. The outcome variable was the percentage of high school graduates who attained Regent diploma (New York State standard) or the graduation rate. Methods utilized were an independent sample t-test, an analysis of variance, and a hierarchical linear model to measure the difference in longitudinal growth of graduation rate from 2011 to 2016. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the means of the graduation rate between vocational and general high schools. Teacher academic qualifications and certifications had a positive relationship with the graduation rate. The implication of this study called for tremendous efforts to improve the educational outcome, leverage teacher competencies, and close the gap.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran web based learning dalam meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa pada mata kuliah komputer; (2) mengidentifikasi kendala-kendala yang terjadi dalam implementasi pembelajaran web based learning pada mata kuliah komputer tersebut; dan (3) mencari solusi terhadap kendala-kendala tersebut. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa peserta mata kuliah komputer di Jurusan Pendidikan Teknik Sipil dan Perencanaan. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah: (1) lembar observasi; dan (2) lembar penilaian tugas. Validitas instrumen ditetapkan berkaitan dengan validitas logis, yang dilakukan melalui judgment dalam seminar. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan statistik deskriptif, analisis komparasi, dan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) penerapan model pembelajaran Web based learning terbukti lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan pencapaian kompetensi mahasiswa pada bidang komputer dibanding model pembelajaran konvensional; (2) penerapan model pembelajaran web based learning dapat meningkatkan kualitas interaksi pembelajaran. Kendala dalam implementasi web based learning adalah: (1) Akses internet di UNY kecepatannya tidak stabil sehingga menghambat proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan web. Upaya untuk mengatasinya adalah dengan pemasangan local host; (2) Penggunaan internet untuk media pengumpulan tugas mempunyai kelemahan, karena dosen tidak tahu secara pasti apakah tugas dikerjakan oleh mahasiswa yang bersangkutan ataukah dibuatkan oleh orang lain. Upaya untuk mengatasinya adalah dosen harus cermat dalam menilai hasil tugas-tugas mahasiswa, dan perlu dilakukan cross check secara langsung kepada mahasiswa yang bersangkutan; dan (3) Mahasiswa perlu mengeluarkan biaya ekstra untuk sewa internet guna mengakses e-learning UNY.

Abstract

Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills are critical for vocational schools graduates to enter the workforce in the industrial era 4.0. This study aims to find a learning strategy that can develop these three skills. The study was carried out at SMK X Mojokerto in the Automotive Technology Program in the academic year of 2017/2018. Data were collected using an observation sheet validated by three experts and tested with inter-rater reliability. The data analysis method is t-test. The results of data analysis showed that the Contextual Project Based Learning (CPjBL) was generally effective to improve critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Detailed observation included each of these aspects. The findings showed that the implementation of contextualized learning problems could improve the aspect of originality and problem understanding skills, which was usually difficult to improve. On the other hand, CPjBL was not effective in developing the ability of analysis in critical thinking and look-back in problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) memperoleh gambaran empiris mengenai penerapan metode penilaian portofolio pada Mata Kuliah Restoran;  (2) mengetahui hasil belajar mahasiswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan penerapan metode penilaian portofolio dan yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan penilaian konvensional pada Mata Kuliah Restoran; dan (3) meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran Mata Kuliah Restoran. Penelitian ini merupakan quasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan dilaksanakan pada bulan September-Desember 2007 di Jurdiknik Boga dan Busana, Fakultas Teknik, UNY. Subyek penelitian adalah mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Boga yang mengambil Mata Kuliah Restoran pada semester gasal 2007/2008. Sampel penelitian dipilih secara acak, satu kelas dipilih sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan satu kelas sebagai kelompok kontrol. Instrumen menggunakan tes dan lembar observasi penilaian yang sudah divalidasi secara expert judgement. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji dua rerata dengan menggunakan Uji t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) penerapan metode penilaian portofolio dalam proses pembelajaran Mata Kuliah Restoran diawali dengan identifikasi kompetensi-kompetensi kunci, dijabarkan dalam bentuk sub kompetensi (lebih kecil cakupan materinya) Selanjutnya ditetapkan lembar penilaian berbasis portofolio yang disusun berdasarkan kompetensi yang harus dikuasai mahasiswa, menetapkan skoring dan pembobotan sampai ditemukannya nilai akhir secara keseluruhan; (2) hasil belajar mahasiswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran Mata Kuliah Restoran dengan metode penilaian portofolio lebih baik dibandingkan dengan yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan metode penilaian konvensional (thitung= 3,68 ttabel= 1,69); (3) Kualitas pembelajaran Mata Kuliah Restoran dapat meningkat karena rerata hasil belajar mahasiswa yang dinilai dengan metode portofolio (79,63) lebih besar dibandingkan dengan penilaian konvensional (64,06)

Abstract

National Dual Training System (NDTS) is a system of training between the public and the private sector to produce competitive workers (k-worker) who meet the industry needs. This system consists of day release approaches that mean trainees undertake practical studies for four days and one day they receive theories while block release means trainees undertake practical studies for four months in industries and one month they receive theories. This study aimed to determine the advisors’ level of knowledge, skills, attitudes and their relationship with gender and work experience in the NDTS. This descriptive study  used questionnaires with a likert scale as an instrument involving 84 respondents of qualified NDTS advisors. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and  the results showed that the advisors had high knowledge, skills and attitudes. The inference analysis showed there was not difference of the level of knowledge, skills and attitudes based on advisors’ gender  and the pearson correlation analysis showed that there was not relation between the advisors’ competence  and work experience.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to produce a virtual laboratory application for vocational productive learning by applying Augmented Reality technology; (2) to examine the validity of the developed application from the aspects of media development and productive learning materials. The method used in this study was research and development with the waterfall model. The stages of development included needs analysis, design, implementation, and system testing. The result of the development was the learning application called AugWare operated using an Android smartphone. The application was equipped with the features of learning materials, simulation and evaluation. The results of validation by media experts through an assessment questionnaire consisting of 32 items revealed that the average final score was 84 categorized as very appropriate. In the assessment of material experts, the results of the validator's assessment through a questionnaire with the 30 items showed that the final score was very appropriate with the score of 89.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogi dan kompetensi vokasional mahasiswa peserta mata kuliah Sistem Video dengan metode Jigsaw dan peer teaching, sehingga mahasiswa lebih siap dalam menempuh pengajaran mikro dan berhasil dalam pelaksanaan praktek lapangan di sekolah. Penelitian menggunakan desain tindakan kelas yang dilakukan pada semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2009/2010 dengan jumlah 34 mahasiswa.  Tindakan awal peneliti membekali mahasiswa tentang penyusunan RPP, pengajaran mikro dan difasilitasi modul pembelajaran dalam bentuk soft copy, hardcopy, link dengan informasi terkait dalam BESMART, konsultasi dilayani melalui email, dan chating. Kelompok ahli terdiri dari 4-5 anggota menyusun RPP, melengkapi materi, evaluasi hasil belajar dan media pembelajaran. Setiap mahasiswa bertindak sebagai guru menyampaikan materi kepada anggotanya yang berasal dari tim ahli yang berbeda serta mengevaluasi pemahaman mereka. Mahasiswa yang berperan sebagai siswa menilai cara mengajar temannya yang berlaku sebagai guru.  Teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi, kuesioner dam tes hasil belajar kemudian dianalisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penerapan model pembelajaran pendekatan kooperatif Jigsaw dengan peer teaching dari siklus ke siklus: 1) meningkatkan kompetensi pedagogi meliputi peningkatan kemampuan membuat persiapan pembelajaran, pelaksanaan pembelajaran, evaluasi pembelajaran;  2) meningkatkan kompetensi vokasional 3) mendapat respon positip dari mahasiwa karena pembelajaran lebih bermakna dan merasa dilatih untuk mengajar serta lebih memahami gambaran tugas guru.

Abstract

Learning media of cylinder head cutting for 2-stroke gasoline motors are still limited. The students usually receive the materials only from lectures while the practices used uncut motorcycle props. Subsequently, the students hardly understand the form and the functions of the components. This study aimed at (1) developing the instructional media of two-stroke gasoline motors to improve the students’ learning outcomes, and (2) analysing the feasibility of the developed instructional media. This study was Research and Development. The subject of this study consisted of the 2nd-semester students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo in the academic year of 2016/2017. The data collection used a questionnaire and a test. The data were analysed using a descriptive analysis technique. The research results showed (1) the developed instructional media was feasible to be applied as instructional media,  and (2) the data analysis results of the control class and the experiment class reached the mean scores of 75.80 and 83.25 respectively. It means there was a significant difference between students using the developed instructional media and those who did not.

Abstract

This study aims at improving the students’ performance and achievement in grade XI AV1 of SMK Negeri 3 Yogyakarta with the application of Project Based Learning in Physics learning for Static Electricity and Direct Current Electricity competencies. This study used a classroom action research approach implementing two cycles. Every cycle consisted of planning, action, observation and reflection. The PjBL included the steps of determining, planning, scheduling, monitoring, presentation and evaluation. The aspects of the achievement were measured by a pre-test, a product assessment, and a post-test. The results showed that the application of PjBL improved the performance up to 18.75% and improved the achievement 15.70 and 24.63 for the first cycle and the second cycle respectively.
