Abstract

Black orchid (Coelogyne pandurata Lindl.) is an orchid endemic to the island ofBorneo. However, its existence is increasingly threatened with extinction. Conventionalpropagation efforts require a long time. Therefore in vitro propagation was performed. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the growth response of black orchids on the media anddifferent planting techniques. Black orchid plantlets that have been sub-cultured wasacclimatized in four different media types ie moss, fern, wood charcoal, wood charcoal andcoconut fiber mixture and different planting techniques namely compot (community pot) andthe individual, were allowed to grow for three months. Randomized block design (RBD) wasutilised, obtained 8 combination treatments, with 7 replicates. The results showed blackorchid has a good growth response in the media moss, ferns, and a mixture of wood charcoaland coconut fiber, while the wood charcoal media showed unfavorable results. Differentplanting techniques showed no significant results. Percentage of high life shown in mixedmedia wood charcoal and coconut fiber and compot techniques.Keyword : Black orchid (Coelogyne pandurata Lindl.), acclimatization, media

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the best media and auxin for plantingpotato cutting to produce G1 seed potato. Research was done at a shade house ofKebun Bibit Hortikultura Kembang Merta, Candi Kuning Village, Baturiti, TabananRegency, Bali. Were planted at the screen house for sprouting. Four weeks old ofshoots were used as cutting. Each cutting measured 10 cm. Stem cutting of G0 seedpotatoes was dipped in 2 different auxin types (Rootone F and auxin paste) and plantedin 2 different media (manure and charred rice husk). Results shows that the bestcombination between media and auxin for stem cutting growth was charred rice huskand Rootone F, in which 82.29% growth was recorded. Combination between charredrice husk and Rootone F produced 12 more seed potatoes per plant, compared to othertreatment combination. In term of seed potato size, the highest number produced (80%)was size SS (<20 gram) , followed by size S (21-30 gram) which is 66%, size M (31-60gram) which is 8% and size L (>60%) of 2%.Keyword : Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), stem cuttings, seed production.

Abstract

Leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala) has been used as traditional medicine, such asdrugs to decrease the level of blood glucose, so it can be used as drug to indicatediabetes. The aim of this research is to study the histopathological change of mice’s livergiven leucaena leaf extract. This research used 24 male mice that were divided into 4 groupsby completely randomized design. Group P0 (control) were given 0,9 % NaCl, and groupsP1, P2, and P3 were given 0,5 g / kg bw, 1 g / kg bw, and 1,5 g / kg bw leucaena’s leafextract by oral administration respectively. The treatment were given daily for 30 days. All ofthe mice were necropsied at day 31, and the liver were taken to examine theirhistopathological change. Histopathological change examination were based on the presenthydropic degeneration, fatty degeneration, and apoptosis surround central vein. Result ofstatistically analised by ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis method indicated no significancedifference among the control and treatments. There was no significance toxicity effect ofleucaena leaf extract of all treatment dosage on mice liver. Keywords: Leucaena leucocephala, liver histology, Mus musculus L.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the plants species and nutrient content of plantspecies selected by weaning of bali cattle in South Badung Hill, Badung regency, Bali. Studywas conducted in three Grazing unit Bali cattle are Sawangan, Kutuh and Pecatu. InDecember 2013 to February 2014. Determination of the composition of plant species in thehabitat (n?) is determined by the square method. Determination of plants composition in diet(r?) determined by utilization methods. This method is based on the percentage bite mark ofplants species in plot sampling. Nutrient content was analyzed crude protein, energy, calciumand phosphorus. Crude protein determination with a Semi-micro Kjeldahl technique andenergy content by Bomb Calorimeter. Determination of mineral content of calcium (Ca) andPhosphorus (P) by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (ASS). Tests carried out inthe Laboratory of Nutrition and Forage Analytical Chemistry, University of Udayana. TheJURNAL SIMBIOSIS II (2): 192- 202 ISSN: 2337-7224Jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Udayana September 2014results study showed 32 species of plants available in the habitat, there are nine species ofplants that are selected by weaning bali cattle, that are Desmodium heterofilum, Pleurainterupta, Polygala glomerata, Cyperus rotundus, Desmodium triflorum, Dactylocteniumaegyptium, Portulaca sp. Polygala chinensis, and Panicum eruciforme. Nutrient content ofplant species eaten a protein ranged from 11.25% - 17.14%, GE 3.10 kcal / g - 4.11 kcal / g,Ca 0.33% - 1.86%, and 0.026% P - 0.24%.Keywords: Weaning bali cattle, plants selected species, nutrient content

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of red calliandra (Calliandra calothyrsusMeissn.) leaf extrac on the histological structure of the kidney of mice (Mus musculus L.).Treatment was administered orally with varying doses. This research used a CompletelyRandomized Design in factorial pattern of two factors, doses (0 or control, 2, 4, and 6 mg/kgBW) and length of treatment (7, 14, and 21 days), so there are 12 combination groups with 3replications of each. Organ was collected on days 8, 15, and 22 to observe histologicalstructure of the kidney. Renal histological observation of edema, Bowman’s spaceconstriction, and protein deposition, showed no correlation between both factors, but a veryreal correlation occurs in the damage of fatty degeneration, hemorrhage, and nucleuspyknotic. Histological observation of glomerular congestion and infiltration of inflammatorycells did not show any correlation between dose and duration of treatment. Keywords: red calliandra, histopathology of kidney, male mice

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify thedamage of onion’s(AlliumcepaL.) chromosomes causedbyethidiumbromide submersion for 6and12hoursat 500ppm. The methodused to study chromosome damage of onionroot tip wassquash technique. The result showed several types of chromosomedamagesuch as the formation of, micronuclei, nuclear buds and chromosome bridges. At 6 hours submersion, the average percentageof chromosomal damage was 2.99 %, while in submersion for 12 hours, the average percentage of chromosomal damage was 6.81 %. Keywords:Ethidium bromide, chromosome damage, Allium cepa L.
