Abstract

Background: The installation of stainless steel metal brackets on the patient's teeth in a long phase will interact with the oral cavity environment which causes the release of ions such as Ni and Mn ions. Their release in the metal bracket can impact the body in the form of hypersensitivity reactions while the impact on the bracket is the bracket surface changes shown by the gap in it. These changes can reduce the effectiveness of orthodontic and aesthetics treatments, quality and the strength of the bracket, and can provide an attachment place for Streptococcus mutans microbe. The aim of this study was to determine the release of the ions (Ni and Mn) on the stainless steel metal bracket surface.Method: This study was a descriptive research. The research sample used a stainless steel metal bracket with 0.22" lower jaw premolar slots which was marked by the American Orthodontic (AO) brand which experienced the ions release. The observation of ion Ni, Mn, Fe and Cr release on the bracket was carried out by using a Scanning Electron Microscope- Energy Dyspersive X-Ray Spectroscopy’s tool (SEM-EDX).Result: The results showed that the mean percentage of Ni ions decreased by 0.758 % while the mean percentage of Mn ions decreased by 0.324 %. The percentage of ion release is calculated from all ion Ni, Mn, Fe and Cr.Conclusion: The results can be concluded that there were differences of ion release` (Ni and Mn) on the stainless steel metal bracket surface. Their release was demonstrated by the presence of microscopic gaps due to pitting corrosion.

Abstract

Background: Background: The number of patients with periodontal disease in Indonesia is estimated to continue to increase yearly. 4.79% or 34614 people had healthy periodontal tissue, while 95.21% or 687715 people had unhealthy periodontal tissue. Clamshell waste containing chitosan can be utilized, considering that interest in sources of raw materials derived from waste is increasing. Chitosan has a dual function, which is osteoinductive because it contains growth factors that provide growth for osteoblast cells. Methods: A true experimental laboratory study with a post-test-only control group design was conducted on 30 Wistar rats and divided into two groups: the 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate group and the chitosan group of scallop shells (Amusium Pleuronectes). The increase in the number of osteoblasts was compared and analyzed. Results: The results showed that the average in the control group on days 7, 14, and 21 was 1, 3.20, 8.80, while in the treatment group on days 7, 14, and 21, it was 12.2, 21.8, and 25. Based on the One Way Anova test results, a p-value of 0,000 (p <0.05) was obtained, meaning a significant difference in the average number of osteoblast cells in each study group. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is an increasing effect of alveolar bone osteoblasts from chitosan in scallop shell extract (Amusium Pleuronecte) in Wistar rats with periodontitis.

Abstract

Background: After tooth extraction, wounds are caused by removing teeth from the alveolar bone. The prevalence of the Indonesian population experiencing toothache is 23%. Tooth extraction occupied the top position, namely 54,3%. Wound healing after tooth extraction can cause risks and complaints from sufferers. The process of fast wound healing after a tooth extraction is the main thing that needs to be considered. Chitosan is a biomaterial that has been used to accelerate the healing process of extraction wounds. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of using chitosan nano mouth spray on epithelial thickness in the healing process of socket wounds after tooth extraction (in vivo study on male Wistar rats).Method: This research is a true experimental type with a post-test-only control group design. Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into three groups. K1, the treatment group was given nano mouth spray. K2, the positive control group, was given aloclair plus spray. K3, the negative control group, was given aquadest. They were then analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD tests.Result: The results showed no re-epithelialization was formed in each group or the thickness was 0. Because the epithelial layer has not yet formed, changes in fibroblas cells can be observed. The results showed a significant difference in the number of fibroblass between each treatment group. Conclusion: The conclusion obtained is that chitosan nano mouth spray has no effect on epithelial thickness in the socket wound healing process after tooth extraction in male Wistar rats on the 7th day after treatment. Chitosan nano mouth spray affected the number of fibroblast in the socket wound healing process after tooth extraction in male Wistar rats on the 7th day after treatment.
