Abstract

The ability to write persuasive texts is a skill that is not easy to master. The low level of students' understanding and memory of the material taught orally and in writing. In addition, the lack of learning resources is also an obstacle for students in learning. This study aims to develop a persuasive text writing book and analyze the potential effects of a persuasive text writing book. This research method uses the Jolly and Bolitho and Tesmer development model. This research is research and development research. Methods This research adapts the Jolly and Bolitho development and Tessmer development models. Data collection techniques used three techniques, questionnaire techniques, interviews, and tests. The data collection instrument is a questionnaire. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative analysis quantitative and inferential statistics. The study results, the expert validation assessment, obtained very good results from content, language, presentation, and graphics feasibility. The field test results through the paired simple test showed a significant difference between the scores before and after using this developed textbook. It was concluded that writing persuasive textbooks could make it easier for students to understand writing to improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The quality of education can increase because of teachers` optimal performance. However, teachers` performance and work discipline are currently still low. This study analyses the principal's managerial leadership in improving teachers` performance. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Methods of data collection using observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects in this study were principals, vice principals, teachers, and supervisors. Data analysis techniques by reducing, presenting, drawing conclusions and verifying data. The results of the study indicate that managerial competence has been implemented well. Principals have programs including school learning planning, teacher supervision, collaboration, work meetings, and workshops. Obstacles faced by principals are teacher discipline, lack of teacher participation in program activities, and many elderly teachers. To anticipate the obstacles in the field, the principal has tried to carry out his duties optimally. The principal's managerial role is quite good, and it is just that teachers need special training to improve teacher performance. So it can be concluded that the principal's managerial leadership improves teacher performance. The implications of this research are expected to improve the managerial leadership of school principals so that teacher performance can increase, and learning objectives can be achieved.

Abstract

Language plays an essential role in conveying knowledge and attitudes, including classroom culture. However, local languages ​​are no longer well understood by the younger generation for several reasons, including prestige. This study aims to analyze how changes in students' attitudes, attendance, and activities in learning Toraja language variations in elementary school students and describe student learning outcomes of Toraja language variations in elementary school students. This type of research uses mixed methods. The research design used for qualitative is descriptive qualitative, and quasi-experimental applied quantitatively. The respondents of this study were elementary school students. The research sample selection technique used purposive sampling. Data analysis techniques used are thematic analysis techniques and statistical techniques. The results of this study indicate that, in general, the results achieved by students after the implementation of the Toraja Language Variation Learning learning process for elementary school children at the Ke'te' Kesu' Toraja tourist location can provide an increase both in changes in student attitudes, activeness, attention, and motivation in completing assignments. Student learning outcomes in the variation of Toraja language learning in elementary school students at the Ke'te' Kesu' Toraja tourist location are in a suitable category. In applied linguistics, this research provides new vocabulary related to social context. This study provides local oral literature as an insight for students to expand their knowledge of literary works.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic impacts psychological conditions and impacts the education system in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze online learning activities during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Tarbiyah Department. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach with informants consisting of lecturers and students. The type of data collected is secondary data in the form of research results from various articles, library sources, and documents and elaboration sentences from the answers of research subjects conducted by interview. The research instrument consisted of an interview guide. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative, and quantitative analysis. The research results are learned during the Covid-19 pandemic using an online model with V-class, Zoom, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google Class, Youtube, Facebook, and Messenger. The implementation of online learning runs smoothly, although it is not ideal. Student learning outcomes vary, ranging from unsatisfactory moderate to good. Constraints students and lecturers face in online learning include the availability of internet quotas, unstable networks, and supporting tools such as gadgets and laptops. Online learning is considered adequate if applied during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the required model is more attractive if used in the long term.

Abstract

The student's ability to understand and use academic and research vocabulary was lacking. Therefore, this research tries to enhance the students' vocabulary achievement by applying Memrise and Quizlet Applications. This research applies Classroom Action Research using four procedures: Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. Researchers obtained data from tests and questionnaires. The results showed that vocabulary planting through the Memrise and Quizlet applications increased student achievement. In addition, students also showed a positive attitude towards the application of Memrise and Quizlet for vocabulary learning. Lecturers or teachers can use the Memrise and Quizlet Applications as a medium to motivate students and provide fun and independent learning. Vocabulary achievement improved after learning vocabulary using Memrise and Quizlet applications from the results presented above. This study also used the Memrise and Quizlet applications to instil vocabulary. Therefore, the researcher suggests that teachers or lecturers who teach use the Memrise and Quizlet applications as alternative media to instil word material in students in the long term.

Abstract

Pre-service teachers learn a lot about educational practice, especially regarding formative assessment, through noticing. For this reason, pre-service teachers’ noticing ability determines the learning process regarding formative assessment. Thus, understanding and analyzing pre-service teachers’ noticing skills is very important. This research is a descriptive qualitative research which aims to analyze the observations of pre-service teachers regarding formative assessment using a video. Data collection was carried out using video task analysis regarding formative assessment. This study involved 69 pre-service elementary teachers. The results of the task analysis were coded with the theoretical coding method. The results of the coding were then analyzed descriptively. The focus of noticing for pre-service elementary teachers is the greatest (71%) on the questioning loop aspect, while other aspects are less than 50% of the participants. No one  pre-service elementary teachers observes the five aspects of formative assessment. For the quality of noticing an average of 2.25-2.85 or between the descriptive level and validation.The characteristics of the focus of pre-service elementary teachers’ noticing regarding formative assessment tend to focus on the questioning aspect and are not comprehensive. Most of the noticing quality of pre-service elementary teachers regarding formative assessment is still at the descriptive and validation level.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a global disease that significantly impacts almost all fields, including education. The shift from face-to-face learning to blended learning during the COVID-19 pandemic requires technological devices to support the learning process. Therefore, this study aims to explore the application of Schoology as a learning management system in academic writing classes during the COVID-19 crisis. The sequential mixed method was applied in this study by analyzing the data qualitatively and quantitatively. All students in the academic writing class were selected as participants using a total sampling technique. The methods used to collect data are observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Furthermore, the research instrument consisted of guided interviews and closed questionnaires distributed using a google form. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative, and quantitative analysis. The results showed that Schoology is beneficial to be infused with blended learning. The Schoology platform stimulates students who have adequate online learning readiness to experience their learning positively using Schoology-based blended learning. However, institutional interventions must be implemented to provide training to students to improve digital competence, strategies to become independent learners, and time management.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic condition requires teachers to use technology in online learning. This study analyses the planning, implementation and evaluation of Islamic religious education assisted by Google class media. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method involving 87 students. Data was collected through surveys, interviews, documentation, and observations. Data analysis was carried out using qualitative descriptive techniques and triangulation. The results showed that the use of Google Classroom in learning Islamic Religious Education gradually improved the quality of learning. It is supported by good planning, competent teaching skills, systematic learning implementation, and measurable evaluation. The learning process is democratic, humanist and technological. Students are given initiative, innovation, and creative freedom to foster motivation, awareness, independence, and togetherness in learning. On the other hand, they were encouraging learning objectives by implementing strict lecture contracts and sanctions for students who ignore agreed learning. Online learning using Google classroom can improve the quality of teaching lecturers, interaction or student activities in learning, discipline, timeliness of assignments, several responsible students, student attendance in meetings through Google Meet, student interaction in learning, and student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Learning life skills for developmentally disabled students who attend inclusive elementary schools is also essential so that students can live independently in their daily activities. The scaffolding prompt plays a vital role in improving the life skills of developmentally disabled students to be independent in their daily activities. This study aims to analyze the relationship and importance of scaffolding prompts in learning life skills for mentally disabled students in inclusive elementary schools. This research was conducted on inclusive elementary school students. This research is a correlational study. The data collection tool used is a self-development performance life skill test which consists of 22 items. The data analysis technique used in this research is the product-moment correlation technique. Based on the research data analysis, there is a significant relationship between scaffolding prompts and improving students' life skills with intellectual disabilities in inclusive elementary schools. The results also show the importance of prompt scaffolding because it contributes significantly to increasing the independence of mentally disabled students in implementing life skills in real-life contexts. The limitation of this research is that it only covers students with mental retardation in inclusive elementary schools, so further research is needed that is broader.

Abstract

Students' creative thinking ability is low when using conventional learning media. Thus, the Civics learning process requires innovative learning media such as digital-based mind maps to improve students' creative thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of digital-based mind map media on the creative thinking skills of class X students in Civics learning in vocational high schools. This research is a quasi-experimental research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study found 477 students using simple random sampling. This study used a test instrument in the form of an essay. Data collection was used for pretest and posttest. Hypothesis testing using t-test analysis with a significance level of 5%. The sample was determined through a random sampling technique which collected 62 students who were divided into two classes. The results showed that the posttest scores were more significant. Therefore, it can be said that there is a significant effect of digital-based mind maps on the creative thinking skills of class X students in Civics learning in SMK. Digital-based mind map media can improve students' creative thinking skills. It is expected that teachers use mind map media in learning civics education.
