Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the influence of palm shell biofilter aplication in degrading organic pollutant in fermented soybean cake waste industryat aerobic system. This study was carried out in fermented soybean cake industry atTampan region, Pekanbaru. The total amount of wastewater that produced from onesmall industry fermented soybean cake is around 2 m3/day, and now is collected inwastewater drainage. Wastewater treatment of aerobic system. Basically thiswastewater treatment relies on bacteria in degrading pollutants. The use of palmshell is to increase specific surface of media for attaching bacteria. The systemconsist of one reactor that is made of 5 mm glass, and the volume reactor 140 liter. The reactor was equipped with one circulating pump and blower in the aerobic zone.It took 30 days for seeding micoorganism. The reactor were run in four differentresident time, namely 4 hours, 3 hours, 2 hours and 1 hour. The raw water used inthis experiment is waste water from tofu and fermented soybean cake industries thathave organic compound around 594.08 – 1276.64 mg/l. The water for physical andchemical analysis is sampled daily. It took from raw water and aerobic colum ofreactor. The results from 192 physical and chemical parameters from 24 watersamples showed that the palm shell biofilter gives a little influence to degradeorganic pollutant. The efficiency process in decreasing organic compund valuearound 6.47 – 16.48%, TSS 32.47 – 97.19%, TDS 7.89 – 19.25%, ammonia 0.66 –2.75%, total phosphate 1.76 – 5.13%, and nitrate 3.24 – 6.99%. The shorter retentiontime, the less removal efficiency of organic matter, TSS, TDS, ammonia, totalphosphate and nitrate.Key words : Biofilter, Biofilm, Wastewater Treatment, Aerobic Reactor, Organic Waste, Waste of Tofu and Fermented Soybean Cake Industry.

Abstract

About one-third of dolphin species in the world is living in Indonesia, including some other types categorized by rareness and threatened of extinct. Thepurposes of this research are to analyse visually the dolphin behaviour on thesurface of water area at its real habitat. Equipments used in this research wereidentification book of dolphin, and visual sensus on dolphin with line transec zigzagmethod. In Kiluan Bay, there were two species of dolphin found, namely Stenellalongirostris (Spinner dolphin) and Tursiops truncatus (Bottlenose dolphin). Duringperception, the coastal water were predominated by Spinner dolphin, 61,33%.Dolphin movement in coastal water of Kiluan Bay between 100 to 800 metres. Keywords: Stenella longirostris, Bottlenose dolphin, Kiluan Bay

Abstract

Develop fishing with regard to the code of conduct for responsible fisheries (CCRF) as suggested by the FAO. The objectives of the research were: 1) analysisstatus of fish resources utilization in Dumai, and 2) analysis fishing technology thatis good to be developed in Dumai (biology, social and techno-economic). Thisreseach was focused on fishing gears i.e. Bottom long line, Scoopnet, Portable trap.Result of research indicated that exploiting of fish resourcees demersal in territorialwater Dumai over Total Allowable Catches (TAC) 80% from MSY. Sondong isfishing gear of main priority of development with regard to CCRFKeywords: Development, by Demersal Resources, TAC

Abstract

This research was conducted on August 2008 with purpose has to know the characteristics of sediment at estuary of Indragiri river. The method used in thisresearch was survey method. The research found that there were 2 fractions of sediment I.E. mud and sand withthe type of sediment that were mud, sand, and muddy sand. Mean score for thesediment at the estuary of Indragiri River were between 1.72 to 7.14 Φ anddominated by medium class of silt and coarse silt. The sorting score were between0.58 to 2.10 Φ and dominated by a poorly sorted classification. Skewnes valueindicates the estuary area described that the coarse sediments particles and areas farfrom the mouth of the river showed a trend of fine sediment particles.Keyword: sediment, mud and sand

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the role of fishery sector ineconomic regional of Riau Province. Data showed that the contribution of fisherysector to PDRB of Riau province is relatively small, namely 3,80 % in 2003 and thandecreasing until 3,70 % in 2007. At the same period fishery sector contribution 3,24% and than decreasing until 1,78 % for available employment in Riau Province.Fishery sector included economic base of Riau Province, during period 2003-2004fishery sector is base sector for available employment, but period 2005-2007 nonbase sector. Fishery sector have the income multiplier effect is relatively high, but thedecreasing from 32,32 in 2003 until 28,66 in 2007. Multiplier effect for availableemployment is 80,10 in 2003 – 2004. Regarding the potention of fishery is relativelybig, whereas the level of its exploitation have not been optimal, so fishery sector isimportant to be a priority in regional economic development in Riau Province.
