Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan bahasa kasar Dialek Banyumasan di Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap. Penelitian ini menjelaskan wujud, referen, dan fungsi bahasa kasar Dialek Banyumasan yang digunakan di Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap. Penelitian ini termasuk ke dalam jenis penelitian deskriptif. Data dari penelitian ini yaitu kata-kata kasar dialek Banyumasan di dalam masyarakat Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap. Sumber data dari penelitian ini yaitu tuturan lisan masyarakat Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap dalam kegiatan sehari-hari di tempat yang banyak terjadi proses interaksi dari para penuturnya. Langkah-langkah pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini yaitu dengan cara teknik menyimak, teknik sadap, teknik rekam, dan teknik catat. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan cara teknik analisis sosio pragmatik. Untuk mendapatkan validitas data dengan menggunakan validitas triangulasi teori, validitas semantik, dan pertimbangan ahli, sedangkan untuk mendapatkan reliabilitas menggunakan reliabilitas stabilitas. Hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang wujud, referen, dan fungsi bahasa kasar Dialek Banyumasan di Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap. Wujud bahasa kasar Dialek Banyumasan di Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap yaitu kata dasar, kata berimbuhan, dan frasa. Referensi bahasa kasar Dialek Banyumasan di Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap yang ditemukan meliputi referen nama hewan, bagian tubuh, jenis makanan, kata benda, kotoran, keadaan seseseorang, keadaan tertentu, dan kegiatan tertentu. Fungsi bahasa kasar dialek Banyumasan di Desa Kedungreja Kabupaten Cilacap digunakan untuk menjelaskan rasa marah, rasa jengkel, rasa kecewa, menghina orang lain, rasa menyesal, dan rasa heran. Harsh language of Banyumasan dialect AbstractThe aim of this research was to explain the coarse language of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja village, Cilacap Regency. This study explained form, reference, and function of the coarse Language of Banyumasan dialect used in Kedungreja village, Cilacap Regency. This study employed descriptive research. The data of the research was the coarse words of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja Village, Cilacap Regency. The data resource of this research was the expression of Kedungreja villagers, Cilacap Regency in daily activities, such as at market, youth association, at pos kamling, and many more. The steps of gathering data for this research were observing technique, tapping technique, recording, and writing the data of research. The technique of data analysis in this research was sociopragmatic analysis technique. This study applied validity triangulation theory, semantic validity, and expert consideration to get data validity, while to get reliability, it implied reliability stability. The result of this research is a description about form, reference, and function of the coarse language of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja Village, Cilacap Regency. The forms of the coarse Language of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja Village, Cilacap Regency were basic words, affixes, and phrases. The types of the course language of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja village, Cilacap Regency, were namely noun/noun phrases, adjective/adjective phrases, and verb /verb phrases. The references of the coarse language of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja Village, Cilacap Regency were animal’s name, parts of the body, type of food, noun, filth, someone’s condition, certain condition, and certain activity. The function of the course language of Banyumasan dialect in Kedungreja Village, Cilacap Regency, was namely to express anger, irritation, disappointment, insulting others, regret and astonishment.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop reading supplementary materials and to verify the appropriateness of the materials to support the learning process of the grade XI students at Madrasah Aliyah Al Ma’Had An-Nur. This research was a research and development study. The results of the research are as follows. First, this research produced a set of extensive reading supplementary materials. Second, the results of material validation by material and graphic designer experts, the try-outs by grade XI students, and the perception of the English teacher showed that the extensive reading supplementary materials were considered appropriate to be applied in English class.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) bentuk dan jenis tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam buku ajar bahasa Prancis Écho 1, (2) sumbangan hasil kajian tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam buku ajar bahasa Prancis Écho 1 terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Prancis. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan metode simak dengan teknik dasar teknik sadap, dilanjutkan dengan teknik SBLC (Simak Bebas Libat Cakap) dan teknik catat. Data bentuk tindak tutur direktif dianalisis menggunakan metode agih. Untuk menganalisis jenis tindak tutur direktif digunakan metode padan pragmatis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) bentuk tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam buku ajar bahasa Prancis Écho 1 yakni bentuk tindak tutur direktif langsung dan tindak tutur direktif tidak langsung, (2) jenis tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam buku ajar bahasa Prancis Écho 1 antara lain requestive, question, requirement,  prohibitive, permissive, dan advisory, (3) sumbangan hasil kajian tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam buku ajar bahasa Prancis Écho 1 terhadap pembelajaran bahasa yakni penggunaan strategi pembelajaran model 6R yang terdiri dari researching, reflecting, receiving, reasoning, rehearsing, dan revising. Directive speech act in French textbook Écho 1 and its contribution in French language learning AbstractThis study aims to describe (1) the forms and types of directive speech act in French textbook entitled Écho 1, and (2) the contribution of the study about directive speech in the textbook for learning French. This study refers to qualitative study. The data were gathered through observation, as the basic technique was tapping technique. Then it was followed by Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique and combined with record technique. To analyze the forms and the types of directive speech act, the researcher used distributional and identity method respectively. The results of the study show that (1) the forms of directive speech act found in the textbook are direct speech act and indirerct speech act, (2) the types of directive speech act found in the textbook are requestive, question, requirement, prohibitive, permissive, and advisory, (3) the contribution of the study regarding directive speech act in the textbook is the use of 6R strategy in learning French consisting of researching, reflecting, receiving, reasoning, rehearsing, and revising.

Abstract

This case study aimed to: (1) reveal how intercultural language learning occurred within a sister school partnership in an Indonesian public high school in Yogyakarta, and (2) describe student behaviours perceived to be indicative of intercultural language learning. Using an ethnographic approach through observations and dialogues, this study investigated real life interactions occurring among the research participants within the uniqueness of the partnership between an Indonesian public high school in Yogyakarta and its Australian school partner. The results showed that intercultural language learning occurred in the forms of learning experiences which engaged the students in interaction, observation and reflection with the target community. A number of indicators of intercultural language learning were revealed in the students behaviours within four authentic language experiences including exploring language and culture, noticing verbal and non-verbal cultural behaviours, making connections between home and the target language and culture, and reflecting on the development of a third or intermediate personal position between cultures.

Abstract

This research was aimed at developing autonomous listening learning materials for TOEFL preparation for learners at independent language learning center (ILLC) of the language development center at YSU to help them improve their listening skills. This research was a Research and Development study which refers to development model proposed by Tomlinson (1998). The subjects of this research were 30 learners who are members of ILLC. Data were collected using questionnaires and open-ended interviews. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the research reveal that the appropriate listening learning materials for TOEFL preparation consist of printed materials and audio recording containing the listening skills to find the  main topic, to find the main idea, to find the implied meaning, to make prediction, to determine the meaning of idiomatic expressions, to find details information, to draw conclusions, to find suggestions, and to make inferences. The learners’ role is as active listeners and to answer  multiple choice questions, the learning activities include many listening practices, clear instructions, reflection and answer keys. Units are designed of Unit number/title, learning objectives, hints/tips, main activities and reflection. The appropriate tasks consist of warm-up, matching expressions to the pictures, matching words to their meanings, guessing, anticipating the topics and or questions, listening practices, note-taking.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi berdasarkan pendekatan PBM bagi siswa SMP yang layak, praktis, dan efektif. Penelitian pengembangan ini mengacu pada langkah yang dikembangkan oleh Borg and Gall. Desain pengembangan dikelompokkan dalam lima tahap prosedur pengembangan yang meliputi: studi pendahuluan, desain produk, validasi produk, uji coba terbatas dan luas, dan produk akhir. Subjek uji coba terbatas terdiri atas 10 siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Jawai, sedangkan subjek uji coba luas terdiri atas 20 siswa kelas VII SMPN 2 Jawai Selatan Kabupaten Sambas. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah lembar validasi untuk ahli materi dan ahli pembelajaran, lembar keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, lembar respon siswa, angket penilaian guru, dan instrumen evaluasi pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi meliputi: silabus, RPP, buku ajar siswa (BAS), dan instrumen evaluasi pembelajaran (IEP) masuk dalam kategori “baik”; perangkat yang dikembangkan untuk aspek keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, aspek penilaian guru, dan lembar respon siswa dinyatakan praktis dengan seluruh lembar penilaian masuk dalam kategori “baik”; dan dinilai efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar aspek sikap, aspek pengetahuan, dan aspek keterampilan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perangkat pembelajaran berdasarkan pendekatan PBM layak, praktis, dan praktis digunakan sebagai salah satu sumber belajar untuk meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam menulis teks eksposisi. Developing of writing exposition-text teaching kits based on Problem based learning approach for junior high school students AbstractThis study aims to develop of a writing exposition-text teaching kit based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Approach for junior high school students which is appropriate and valid, the feasibility, and the effectiveness. This study used the research and development model developed by Borg and Gall. It consisted of five steps consisting of: preliminary study, product design, validation, limited-test of the product design and field-test of the primary developed-product, and final products. Ten grade VII students of SMPN 1 Jawai involved in limited test, and 20 students of SMPN 2 Jawai Selatan Sambas Regency involved in the field-test of the products. The instruments used to gather the data included a set of validation sheets for the expert (pedagogical and content aspects), observation sheet of teaching-learning process, questionnaire for students’ response, evaluation sheet for the teacher, and a test. The results of the study are the writing exposition-text teaching kit consists of syllabi, lesson plan, students’ book and the assessment in a ‘good’ category; the developed teaching kit is in a ‘good’ category based on the students achievement in teaching learning processes, evaluation from the teacher, and students’ response to the questionnaire; and teaching kit effective in improving students’ achievement in cognitif aspect, students’ skill in writing exposition-text. Hence, the teaching kit based on PBL approach is valid, effective and feasible as learning sources to improve students’ skill in writing exposition-text.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the differences in the students’ achievement in writing the hortatory exposition text among the students taught by using video, pictures, and the lecturing method with the genre-based approach. This study was quasi-experimental research with the pretest and the posttest design. The sample consisted of grade eleven students of majoring science comprising three classes chosen by cluster random sampling. Two classes were for the experimental groups taught using video and pictures and the control group taught using the lecturing method. The data were collected using the test of writing. The validity established was the content validity, while the reliability used was inter-rater. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze data. The results of the study had shown that there were the significant differences between the experimental and the control groups where the use of video was the most effective media in teaching writing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendapatkan hasil dan data untuk mencari dan membedah kalimat koordinatif dalam bahasa Melayu Serdang (BMS) yang menggunakan teori X-bar. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa struktur dalam BMS dan bahasa Indonesia itu tidak berbeda. Baik berdasarkan pola kalimat maupun kontruksinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode padan yang memadankan antara bahasa Indonesia dan BMS. Jadi, dalam membedah struktur batin yang terdapat dalam BMS yang menggunakan teori X-bar itu disepadankan dengan bahasa Indonesia. Adapun objek kajian yang ditelaah adalah kalimat koordinatif. Kalimat koordinatif ini tentu memiliki konjungsi koordinatif di dalamnya. Konjungsi koordinatif itu ada bermacam-macam. Ada yang menggunakan kata “bahwa”, “sekiranya”, “tetapi, “dan”, dan konjungsi koordinatif lainnya. Konjungsi koordinatif dalam bahasa Indonesia tersebut disepadankan dengan konjungsi koordinatif dalam BMS. Adapun alat pembedah kalimat-kalimat tersebut dalam BMS adalah teori X-bar. Teori X-bar ini pertama kali ditemukan oleh Chomsky. Dalam teori X-bar, kategori leksikal sebuah kata itu menjadi inti dari frasa, klausa, ataupun kalimat. Kategori leksikal verba itu adalah inti dari frasa verba, nomina adalah inti dari frasa nomina, adjektiva adalah inti dari frasa adjektiva, infleksi adalah inti dari frasa infleksional. AbstractThis research was conducted to get the results and data to find and dissect the coordinative sentence in Serdang Malay Language (SML) by using the X-bar theory. This research also aims to prove that the structure in SML and Indonesian have no different. Both based on sentence patterns and their construction. This research uses a matching method that combines Indonesian language and SML. So, to prove the inner structure contained in SML that uses the X-bar theory, it is compared to Indonesian. The object of the research that was examined by the coordinative sentence. This coordinative sentence certainly has coordinative conjunctions in it. There are various coordinative conjunctions. Some use the words "that", "if", "but", "and", and other coordinative conjunctions. Coordinative conjunction in Indonesian is compared to coordinative conjunction in SML. The dissecting tool for these sentences in SML is the X-bar theory. This X-bar theory was first done by Chomsky. In X-bar theory, the lexical category of a word becomes the core of phrases, clauses, or sentences. The lexical category of verbs is the core of verb phrases, nouns are the core of noun phrases, the adjective is the core of the adjective phrase, inflection is the core of the inflectional phrase.

Abstract

Teaching language in this global era demands mostly the creativity of the teachers, this is because in 21th century, students need to be critical thinkers, creative, communicative and collaborative. Therefore, the creativity of the teacher is manifested by evaluating    the multiple resources and adapting or adopting them based on the contextualized learning situation including individual differences, styles and learners needs. It is also essential for the teacher to integrate the four macro skills in teaching language in order to make the students more communicative and collaborative. Hence, this paper presents the evaluation of the language teaching resources before and during applying them to the classroom contexts. The data were collected by document review, classroom observation and interview with the secondary school teacher. The data were analyzed qualitatively through interactive model. There is variation of the results based on the techniques of data collection. The interview    shows that theoretically the teacher is creative to make the materials for students. Meanwhile, the observation and document review findings show that there is a need of improvement on the way to evaluate and use the English materials based on the context. Finally, we suggest that the theoretical knowledge from interview should be implemented practically in class and in evaluating the textbooks in order to adopt or adapt by adding or removing some materials to make English textbooks match with students contexts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan profil STM Negeri Dili Timor Leste, guru bahasa Inggris, dan pihak-pihak yang terkait dengan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris; dan proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris for specific purposes. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru-guru bahasa Inggris, siswa/i kelas XI dan XII STM Negeri Dili serta dua orang penanggungjawab kurikulum dari Kementerian Pendidikan Timor Leste. Pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi, dan angket. Analisis data dengan klasifikasi data, transkripsi, verifikasi, dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Inggrisfor specific purposes tidak didukung oleh (1) kemampuan sumber daya manusia dan kreativitas guru; (2) perangkat pembelajaran; (3) pelatihan bagi guru bahasa Inggris yang relevan; (4) peningkatan kesejahteraan dan kinerja; (5) budaya dan lingkungan dalam proses pembelajaran siswa.  The learning of English for specific purposes AbstractThis study aims to reveal the profiles of STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste, English teachers, and parties related to the English learning; and the English learning process for Specific Purposes. The study employed the qualitative descriptive method. The research subjects were English teachers, male and female students of Grades XI and XII of STM Negeri Dili, Timor Leste, and two people in charge of curriculum the Ministry of Education of Timor Leste. The data were collected by interview, observation, documentation, and a questionnaire. The data analysis through data classification, transcription, verification and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the learning of English for Specific Purposes is not supported by (1) the human resources’ competencies, teachers’ creativity; (2) learning kits; (3), the training for English teachers is relevant; (4) improvement of welfare and performance; (5) culture and environment in students’ learning.
